Friday Free for All

California's landmark Parent Trigger Law, which allows students' parents to take control of failing schools, is currently before the State Board of Education which is crafting policies and regulations around the laws.  School teachers and administrators, of course no fan of the law, are seeking to direct how those rules are imposed.  Parent activists who worked to get the law passed, including Lydia Grant of Sunland-Tujunga, have filed an ethics complaint against board member Patricia Rucker, who is also a paid lobbyist for the California Teachers Association.  The parents are saying that Rucker's participation represents a conflict of interest and she should recuse herself from proceedings on the Parent Trigger Law.  Joining the parents is retired State Senator Gloria Romero, who authored the law, in calling on Rucker to step away.

Janice Hahn could be in big trouble following an updated report by KTTV's Chris Blatchford concerning her gang intervention problems.  Despite being threatened by Hahn's law firm, the same lawyers that came after us on behalf of Assemblyman Mike Gatto (who now has even bigger problems with KFI's John and Ken and other media outlets than he ever did with MayorSam), KTTV went ahead and aired the report, refuting claims by Hahn.  This is bad news for Hahn who is in heated race for a Congressional seat.

Our old friend Betty Pleasant is rambling about something.  But it comes down to this: Steve Cooley is a criminal who unfairly targeted Richard Alarcon, Mark Ridley-Thomas can do no wrong and she hates Bernard Parks.  Something new I did not know: Betty apparently doesn't like Congresswoman Maxine Waters, either.

The registration numbers in the South Bay favor Democrats. That fact notwithstanding, Janice Hahn is a disgrace for sending Fox11 a letter from a lawyer. This is the American version of knocking on someone's door at 2 AM and dragging him to prison.

Mike Gatto is still the master of "authoritarian regime" tactics against those exercising their First Amendment Rights: lawyer letters, calls to the police, etc.

All politics aside, this is America. If our elected officials avoid the press, it means they are incompetent and/or are hiding something.

If our elected officials use strong-arm tactics to squelch free speech, then they are no better than Third World thugs.

Perhaps "Congresswoman" Hahn will create a program to reach out to thugs in Syria, Burma and North Korea.

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Stadium is a Brown Act Committee. Make City Council and Jan Perry comply with the law.

Gaye Williams will be the new Chief of Staff to Antonio Villaraigosa.

It is a good choice; the job of the COS is to make the trains run on time.

Gaye is experienced and she is, in a word, an "adult".

The Mayor may finish strong after all. For the good of the City of LA, let's all hope so.

The Mayor may finish strong after all? Sorry. Too late for any hope of that. His legacy has been etched.

You guys are all a bunch of wanna be's.

If you had a sense at all you'd know that Huey isn't stupid enough to put in $800,000 for this election knwing how much the numbers are stacked aganst him.

He's doing it because when the district is reconfigured, it will be much more balanced and he will have the inside track to win it next tmie.

So, if the ditz oouncilwoman squeeks it out, it is likely she will be but a one term Congresswoaman; and not even a full term at that. Not time enough, really to find the bathrooms.
