Spruce Up Your Dog Park!
Controller Wendy Greuel notes the existence of a Department of Transportation program that allows elected officials to reduce or eliminate parking violations fees. Over 1,000 tickets were handled by the program in the last two years, however it goes back about 20 years.  Several Council Members told the Times that they think they knew of the program but have never used it.

Radio talk show host Tom Leykis has offered up a $50,000 contribution to the reward to find the attackers of John Stow who was beaten by thugs in the Dodger Stadium parking lot following the Dodgers-Giants home opener.  Apparently city officials do not want Mr. Leykis contributions with representatives from Councilman Ed Reyes' office belligerently insisting Mr. Leykis as a private individual can not join the Dodgers and other private organizations in making the contributions.

Supervisors Mark Ridley Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky are having a battle over the Crenshaw Light Rail Line. Ridley Thomas wants to build some of it underground; Zev sides with MTA reports that suggest it be above ground, adding Ridley Thomas' option adds hundreds of millions to cost.  Big question mark is what the Mayor, who controls four votes on the MTA board, thinks.

South Bay Republican Craig Huey pulls a major upset to wind up facing Janice Hahn in the run-off to replace retiring Congresswoman Jane Harman.  Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin, another Republican in the race who finished fourth, had hoped he would be victorious in becoming Congress' first openly gay and legally married member.

The surprising thing about the "Gold Card" is not that it existed (corruption in City Hall, who would have guessed) but that after Greuel denounced it, the Mayor's office put out a press release accusing her of being disingenuous because her own office had availed itself of this "privilege" when she was in the Council.

Something's going on, that caused the attack from the Mayor's office. Does Antonio have another 'gate' in his hands? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hey Higby,

The Tom Leykis offer was made about SIX WEEKS AGO.

It's old news. Why do you think it's new?

I would like to see a spread sheet of who in the Mayor's office and who on the Council used Gold Card privileges to skirt the law. God, these assholes have no end to their utter arrogance and disdain for public responsibility.

MORE DRIVE BY AUDITS FROM WENDY GREUEL. ALL FOR HER POLITICAL GAIN. SHE KNEW OF THESE CARDS WHEN SHE WAS A COUNCILMEMBER WHO'S SHE KIDDING.

Regarding Tom Leykis' reward offer, the part that is new is the rejection of his offer, by Reyes' office.

Most news reports acknowledge the common sense history of such reward offers that as the amount increases, the chances of someone risking "ratting" out the perpetrator increases.
