Friends Don't Let Friends Vote for Scott Svonkin
Scott Svonkin Illustration by Kyle T. Webster / LA Weekly |
For the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, food spraying San Gabriel School Board Member Scott Svonkin wants to get on the panel that controls millions of your tax dollars going towards campus construction. The LA Weekly documented many of Svonkin's issues while serving in his current role. Svonkin is friends with the big developers who line up with politicians to ruin LA and is most notably the guy, while shilling for Home Depot, who called the good folks of Sunland-Tujunga racists.
On the other hand, Svonkin's opponent, Lydia Gutierrez is a former teacher and aerospace administrator, who hails from South Central, and would be an awesome addition to the panel. Lydia surprised many as a grassroots, community candidate who managed to make the runoff.
In the race for LAUSD School Board Seat 5, pick your poison. The UTLA backed Bennett Kayser or the Villaraigosa-Huizar-Garcia backed Luis Sanchez.
Labels: 2011 runoff election, Bennett Kayser, Don't Vote for Scott Svonkin on May 17, Luis Sanchez, lydia gutierrez

The Democratic Party elite are in an absolute panic that Gutierrez might draw enough votes to actually win over Svonkin. Svonkin has made enemies every where he has lived and worked. They hate him in Weho, where Paul Koretz had to fire Svonkin to get rid of him. The hate him in Sunland-Tijunga where he shamelessly paraded his daughter in a Home Depot apron as part of his campaign to call anyone resisting the Home Depot as racist. They really hate him in San Gabriel Unified School District where he has screamed and bullied people at Board meetings.
The Stonewall Democrats are running robocalls to supporters trying to scare them that Lydia Gutierrez is some kind of Godzilla monster if she gets elected. While Gutierrez is conservative on some hot button social issues that have no relevance to running a community college, she has the experience, passion, and ability to treat people respect that Svonkin seriously lacks.

I live in Sherman Oaks, and when I voted at 10:00AM, I was told I was only the fourth person who voted in my precinct. I do not like Svonkin's personality, but I cannot stomach Gutierrez's views, so I reluctantly voted for Svonkin.

Woo Hoo!!!
Mayor Sam does it again.
The curse of death is upon those endorsed by HIgby.
Once again, a candidate opposed by Higby emerges victorious.
How do you so consistantly pick losers, Sam?

Does anyone else get tired of only having a choice between some puppet of a failed mayor and someone worse who may be backed by another corrupt union?
Rational candidates that don't subscribe to the march of the SEIU but rather the taxpayer/voter get run over. So we are left with a choice of lousy and worse, be it the city council, school board, or local assembly member. No wonder people are fed up.
