Friday Free for All: Wagging the Fishwrap

The Return of MEAT?
I guess we made the LA Times and cub reporter Maeve Reston look somewhat out of touch for neglecting to mention the candidacy of Los Angeles broadcaster and former US Attorney Kevin James for Mayor in their piece about Deputy Mayor Austin Beutner's plan to jump into the race.

The Times later quietly revised their story to include James.  Pathetic.  Some however see the Times failure to note the candidacy of James as more than malfeasance.  Former candidate Walter Moore commenting on Mayor Sam said, "This isn't an oversight. This is an agenda."  Essentially agreeing with Moore - from the other side of the political spectrum - was blogger Mulholland Terrace who claims that Reston sees James as a threat to Beutner who is likely to become the Times' and Downtown set's favored candidate.

Not good for Beutner, who no one likes anyway, that some of the focus was shifted to James when it should have been all Beutner. Also not good for Wendy Greuel, who was enjoyed the support of Mayor Villaraigosa that his own personal lackey has entered the campaign.

Also mentioned in the Times story was that veteran consultant Ace Smith is joining Team Austin; could that mean that Michael "MEAT" Trujillo might find his way back to run the Beutner campaign? Probably not, Mike is damaged goods after his Jules Winnfield like political bullet in the head memo. But stranger things have happened.

Ace Smith is the dirties campaign manager around. WE can all thank him for getting the Failure of a Mayor in. ANyone but City Hall lackeys is the saying. NO to Beutner, Greuseome, Perry, Garcetti and anyone else who has failed our City. Beutner is still seen as an outsider. He never cared about our City until the gangster Mayor brought him on board. He will spend all his money like Meg Whitman did trying to get in but too many people all over the City hate DWP and will go the extra mile against him. I like Kevin James and I give him a hell of a lot of credit for jumping on board. Hes a good guy

The power of the blogs is growing. Swift condemnation from MS & MT seems to have shamed the Times into grudgingly including mention of Kevin James in their piece about Beutner. Keep up the pressure guys, LA needs you now more than ever.

Michael, did you see how Phil J. "predicted" that the Irish kid who led the Master's after three rounds?

It was no surprise, but still hilarious, that the guy then melted down and shot an 80 in the final round.

Mush, mush, mush.

Wendy needs to stop wearing the SAME damn Nehru jackets. She's got one in every color of the rainbow and they make her look dated and trite.

Then Wendy needs to stop wearing the Justin Bieber hair.

Ultimately, Wendy is just an Antonio Villaraigosa retread. I'd sooner vote for Jan Perry for Mayor, and I hate Jan Perry.

Wendy Greuel against Austin Beutner... that's really what it comes down to.
Perry is pretty much out of the equation now. And James, in this liberal city of angels glued to the voodoo of the LA political machine doesn't stand much of a chance.
In fact, I think the 15 month Mayor entering the race is bad for James. He could go toe to toe with Greuel, but taking on Greuel and the 15 month Mayor is going to be hard.

The Valley loves Greuel, not as much as PK of CD2, but she is still loved.

Beutner only came out to the valley a handful of times. And when he did that he only really met with the old folks looking to retain their proximity to power, like Valley Vote.
So he has to build name recognition more than Greuel and James.

"... Beutner who is likely to become the Times' and Downtown set's favored candidate."

Let's not forget what became of the Times' "favorites" in the last local election.

Compared to that rag's recent batting average, the Dodger's 6-7 season opening record looks like a "winning" one.

(Isn't it' about TIMES the Times changed it's name to better represent what is really is, the "TRANSPLANTED EAST-COAST-LIBERALS... Times" (an "L.A." newspaper only by virtue of where it's writers are forced to report in for work).

Kevin James will get my vote. Not a single soul who set foot in that putrid cesspool of LA City Hall will get it. Beutner can spend his money like Meg but this inspid person should go back to corporate raiding or bunny farms in Tzikastan.

THE LA TIMES IS DOING WHAT IT AND DAILY NEWS ALWAYS DOES PROMOTE THEIR GUYS AGAINST ANY OUTSIDER. THEY ARE A BUSINESS THAT COULD CARELESS WHAT THE AVERAGE PERSON IS GOING THOUGH. EVERYONE SHOULD CANCEL THEIR SUBSCRIPTION TO THESE PAPERS. AS FAR AS WENDY GREUEL OR BEUTNER FOR MAYOR BOTH ARE DO NOTHINGS EXCEPT TO SUPPORT THEIR FRIENDS IN OFFICE AND THOUGH'S OUTSIDE WHO WHO VOTE AND GET PERKS FOR THAT EFFORT AT SUPPORT. IT'S A RACKET, PERIOD. THE AVERAGE VOTER WHO DOES NOT VOTE SHOULD, BEFORE ALL THEIR FREEDOM IS GONE. THEIR VOTE IS ONE OF THE LAST THINGS TO GO AND IT'S JUST AROUND THE CORNER. THE GOVERNMENT STILL WILL CHANGE LAWS PASSED BY CITIZENS AFTER THE LAW IS PUT INTO EFFECT THIS IS HAPPENING IN MISSOURI. IF 80% OF THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T VOTE DID OUTSIDER CANDIDATES MIGHT HAVE A REAL CHANCE THIS IS WHY CREDIBILITY IS SO IMPORTANT.

"g"--value your comments. Can you go to "Ron Kaye" and input your comments on the City's ACE program, a big rip-off to fleece the middle-class and keep over-paid city attorneys employed.

Don't asume Greuel is loved in the Valley. She has a base, but has become tarnished.

The best thing about this campaign is that it might be the end of Greuel's career as an elected city official. She can't run for both mayor and controller.

I see Beutner taking more votes away from Greuel than any other candidate.

James has a decent shot of making the runoff because the pther candidates split the establishment vote in too many pieces.

Wendy proved impotent in promoting her chosen successor.

Her support in the Valley is shallow.

By taking her on head-to-head, Beutler further dilutes AV's (and downtown's) influence.

In fact, it paves the way for whomever emerges as the non-AV Big Dog.

Smart money moves to Alex Padilla now.
