Sunday Hotsheet
Jane Harman and her cigar club |
Has LA's teacher union, UTLA, found itself in it's waning days? The LA Times takes a look at the curent state of the once powerful organization which has not elected a school board member in eight years and isn't even trying this year. As public employee unions fall more and more out of favor with the public, the UTLA has become the poster child for greedy special interests that have sunk California fiscally.
Congresswoman Jane Harman's decision to leave Congress has left some concerned that the departure means one less Jewish elected official and supporter for Israel (despite Harman's reported business dealings with Iran). Even if a Jew surfaces as a viable replacement for Harman, some pro-Israel voters might be more comfortable with an evangelical Christian Democrat such as Janice Hahn than a more left leaning Jewish candidate. Stay tuned.
The Lincoln Heights Blog notes that the birthday of the 16th President of the United States went unnoticed at the local high school that was named for him. Was it political correctness or just a misfire on the school's part? Hard to tell, but ironic when the Railsplitter recently came in 2nd just after Ronald Reagan in a Gallup poll of Presidents.

We really don't need more of the same from the losers in the Villaraigosa Administration. Beutner played a major role it trying to sell the City's capital assets for short term gain. If he was so stupid as to think he could engineer the sale of the parking garages to his FAT CAT banker friends, why would we consider him fit for anything but retirement from the City?

Austen Beutner? Is that a joke?
The last thing this city needs is another Villaraigosa stooge.
What has this dummie done while he's been serving in city hall except lie to the ratepayers and city council in order to raise DWP rates.
Time to clean house, starting in 2 weeks.

Do you suppose Doug McIntyre, writing for the Daily News, has ANY idea of where it's actually read and circulated?
His regular and redundant calls now to unseat incumbents in other parts of the city (beyond the Valley and a piece of the Westside), are pretty silly considering the DNs limited regional profile.
(Yeah, yeah, it's ONLINE, but that audience is limited, as well. If you know what they DN is - the contrarian newspaper of the Valley, and you're from Eastside or South... who cares what they have to say).

Oh good. This finally means the end of the L.A. Times using the term "all powerful" when it describes UTLA. Now it can start using, "the once powerful" to describe us.
Signed, a proud teacher and union member
