Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday

Templum Maximum Ego Antonovichus
aka Antelope Valley Courthouse

In an effort to provide more jobs for City workers, the City of Los Angeles took over management January 1st of rental golf carts at City owned golf courses. You might be able to guess what happened the first day: no one remembered to plug the carts in and charge them.  Lots of unhappy golfers!

Ron Kaye recaps the brouhaha over the LAX contract that was sought by the paramour of CM Dennis Zine.  Though the Council eventually followed the due diligence of staff and went with the more qualified bidder, there sure was an abusive earful given to Airport officials to make it clear that next time you better award bids to our friends and girlfriends!

It used to be that public facilities, schools, etc. were named after folks who were dead.  Then, it was after they had retired.  Now elected officials in Los Angeles such as Mike Antonovich, Mark Ridley Thomas and Tom LaBonge are providing public place namesakes left and right.  Ridley Thomas even defended the practice saying that the naming of a City building after him was an honor that would be ungracious to refuse.  How about saying such a refusal would be humble, Mark?

Food trucks in the Valley are joining up to rent vacant land and providing impromptu food courts for diners.

Anybody think Julie Butcher gives a damn whether the golfers have carts or not?

All she cares is that her workers get paid and she gets her union dues, so she can finance another round of City Council elections and perpetuate the vicious cycle of "you wash my hands and I'll wash yours."

It is high time to break up the LA City employees unions and get hold of the finances in LA City.

WHY THE HECK IS THE CITY INVOLVED WITH GOLF CARTS ALTOGETHER? SHOULDN'T THEY FOCUS INSTEAD ON THE FINANCIAL CRISIS, THE PARKING LOTS, THE LAYOFFS?

I think layoffs and furloughs are a good idea IF they are getting rid of non-essential services. Daycare at the city's parks is not an essential service. We should not be in the business of looking after peoples' kids.

But cuts won't matter while Villaraigosa has, like 90+ staffers in his office. He should have TWO media people, not NINE, or whatever the number is.

Walter Moore would like you too believe that the city's financial woes will result in Council incumbents being turned out.

There's been absolutely no indication voters in L.A. hold local government responsible for the budget cuts.

Since the whole country is in the toilet financially, and the State of CA is in worse shape than the City (while being run by a nominal Republican), it's virtually idiotic to believe that a heavily Democratic L.A. electorate will blame City Council for the financial situation here.

THESE POLITIANS HAVE BLOATED IDEAS WHY THEY ARE THERE. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE LIKE MARK RIDLEY THOMAS FEEL ENTITLED TO HAVE BUILDINGS AND PARKS NAMED FOR THEM. WHAT FOOLS WE ARE FOR NOT ENDING THIS PRACTICE FOREVER. THEY ARE THEIR TO DO A JOB WHICH THEY FOUGHT TO TO GET YET THEY EXPECT THE TAXPAYERS TO TURN THEM INTO GODS. IT OUTLINES ONE OF THE MANY REASONS WHY THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THEY REPRESENT AND WHY THEY MUST BE REMOVED FROM ANY OFFICE IN OUR GOVERNMENT. IT'S NOT ABOUT BECOMING A DEMIGOD WHO WE ALL ARE TAUGHT TO WORSHIP. WHAT A FOOL'S PARTY AND THEY TREAT US AS SUCH.

WENT TO THE CHATSWORTH NC COUNCIL TO HERE THE CD-12 CANDIDATES. HERE'S MY TAKE. KELLY LORD COULD NOT REMEMBER 7 OF 10 QUESTIONS ASKED, THEY HAD TO BE REPEATED. THEY ALL WERE TALKING ABOUT EMPOWERING THE COMMUNITY, SMALL BUSINESS AND OF COURSE THE NC'S. SO I WAITED TO ASK MY QUESTION SENSE THEY PLACED SO MUCH IMPORTANCE ON NC'S I ASKED ALL OF THEM WHAT THEY WOULD DO TO HELP ENCOURAGE THEIR COMMUNITIES TO JOIN. 3 OF THE CANDIDATES BRAD SMITH, DANNY LAKHANPAL,KELLY LORD DIDN'T ANSWER THEY STOOD STONE FACED. NAVRAY SINGH WHO MADE PLEDGES HE WAS GOING TO HELP EVERYONE TOLD ME I SHOULD DO IT MYSELF I GUESS HE FORGOT THAT'S THE COUNCILMAN'S JOB. THEY ALL CLAIM THEY CARE ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL STACKHOLDER BUT HAVE NO CLUE OR INTEREST IN GIVING STACKHOLDERS A MEANS OF COMMUNICATING THEIR CONCERNS SO THEIR OPINIONS FELL IN THE TOILET LIKE A LOAD OF B.S. KREKORIAN IS WORKING TO FIX D.O.N.E. AND 3 OF THESE CANDIDATES COME FROM THESE NC'S PERHAPS THEIR FAILURE IN CREATING TRANSPARENCY OR EMPOWERMENT AT THEIR NC'S SAYS VOLUMES ABOUT THEM. THAT LEAVE'S MITCH ENGLANDER AND ARMINEH CHELEBIAN. BOTH MADE AN ATTEMPT TO ANSWER MY QUESTION MITCH REALIZED THEIR WAS A PROBLEM BUT GAVE NO SOLUTION ARMINEH ALSO MENTIONED THAT COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION IS NEEDED TO GET PEOPLE TO WANT TO BE INVOLVED. IN SUMMARY, MITCH BASICALLY IS A SELF PROMOTING WEASEL WHO NEVER LEARNED MODESTY. HE'S COLLECTED OVER 4 YEARS $400,000 ON TAXPAYER TIME TO RUN HIS CAMPAIGN BASICALLY HE'S BOUGHT. THAT LEAVES ARMINEH CHELEBIAN WHO SEEMS KNOWLEGEABLE AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY BUT HAS TIES TO LEE BACA AND SOME NOT NICE PEOPLE AT VALLEY VOTE. I THINK I'M TAKING MY CHANCE ON ARMINEH SHE SEEMS THE LEAST SELF INVOLVED AND MORE SINCERE ABOUT REPRESENTING NOT DICTATING. SHE'S SUPPORTS SMALL BUSINESS, WOULD FIGHT TO REPEAL SPECIAL ORDER 40, WOULD HAVE FIELD DEPUTIES AND A MUCH SMALLER CREW THAN GRIEG SMITH OR MITCH,LESS DEVELOPER RUN COMMUNITIES,WOULD USE NC'S TO GAIN ACCESS TO COMMUNITY PROBLEMS. THERE ARE GOING TO BE MORE DEBATES I HOPE MORE PEOPLE WILL ATTEND AND ASK THEIR OWN QUESTIONS I BELIEVE YOU WILL SEE WHAT I'M SAYING.

1. Actually, Walter Moore doesn't give a damn what you believe. What do I care? It's not like I get a commission on every person I lift out of stultifying ignorance into the warm, sun-shiney joy of informed insight.

2. Of the seven City Council seats up for grabs in March 2011, I believe three -- and only three -- have a good chance of changing hands, namely, Cardenas, Huizar and Wesson.

3. I base my belief largely on the narrow margin by which they won last time. Additional factors that help are: a) the war chest and likeability -- is that a word? -- of Rudy Martinez; b) the number and quality of other candidates; and c) my expectation that the City's financial woes will be highlighted in the news around the time of the election.
