First Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet of 2011

After today, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a private citizen again. He's not really sure what he plans to do, if he will do more films, throw himself into more business ventures, etc. but he does plan to be a green crusader. In the meantime, Jerry Brown returns to the State Capitol for a third term as Governor, planning to do battle with both Democrats and Republicans on the state budget.

Not sure if this is the same as an Ass Clown award but Ron Kaye has named Councilman Dennis Zine as his "man of the year" noting the former motorcycle cop turned union head turned Clowncilman is a "Symbol of City Hall's deceit and dishonor." Kaye is pretty down on his hometown CM for a number of reasons calling Zine "Indefatigable, the two-faced man of a thousand fiancees never passed up a civic event where he couldn't force himself onto the stage or saw an elite party he didn't like." I don't know about Zine but that sounds a lot like this guy and this guy.

In the waning months of his term, Councilman Greig Smith has written and self-published a tome about the inner machinations of City Hall. "If City Hall's Walls Could Talk" is even available on Amazon in e-book format.

Bob Bishop appears to be the latest in a series of grass-roots candidates for Mayor in 2013, and though he says anyone else who is thinking of running is offering "more of the same" I am not sure what Mr. Bishop is proposing.

Thanks to technology a Silver Lake resident was able to watch his house being burglarized over a web cam while he vacationed out of town over the holidays. However he had no robot on hand who could stop the thief. Still, he was able to turn the video over to police for further investigation.

Congrats to Zine for being the real winner of the political scumbags awards. Wonder what kind of flip-flop he'll do when Trutanich announces his campaign to become DA? Zine's already endorsed Alan Jackson with a reservation that if Cooley runs, he'll withdraw his endorsement and back Cooley.

BTW, if anyone thinks it's too soon to start talking about the 2012 primaries, they've changed the date from June to February 25, 2012, so anyone thinking about a run for DA has to be scrambling around for cash now.

The difference is that when Ron Kaye presents an award, people pay attention because Ron has credibility. When the man child, Red Spot, presents one, "NOONE" cares because he has none. Call it the revenge of Mike Gatto. So sweet it is!

How did Phil Jennerjahn not get an Ass Clown award like he did both of the last two years?

Even if nutty mary cummins voted multiple times, there are plenty of people who think he's a moron.

If you're going to ask people to vote, and go through this whole effort, why not honor the vote? I can think of a half dozen reasons in 2010 alone why he deserved an assclown award, not the least of which was the vote.

I'd give Scott an assclown award, but he would think it's an honor, just like the comments correcting his awful grammar and spelling.

"man child"

I like that characterization. I think I'll steal that.

Who else but someone with a totally warped sense of reality would put themselves forward as a "recording secretary" for a City neighborhood council knowing that they operate at a 4th grade literacy level (or, a middle school student at LAUSD, depending on your perspective).

Hey Reed Spit, has LA32 NC ironed out that most critical of council issues yet -- the one that was the main point of debate for several months last year . . . what kinds of snacks and drinks to serve board members at meetings?

If so, you can now move on to the most critical decision for 2011 . . . what should your BUSINESS CARDS say!

How could the City of L.A. do without THAT kind of advice????

Ron has credibility because he makes his points without childish name calling. Red Spot apparently isn't capable of that (see Ass Clown Award). In the beginning the name calling was kinda funny, but Red Spot traded a couple of laughs for his credibility as a writer; the Gatto incident just sealed the coffin.

Scott's only hope is to start over with a fresh pseudonym. The problem there, of course, is that his writing style is so distinct (if you will), he'd be smoked out in matter of hours. So he's pretty much screwed and so is the Mayor Sam blog as long as Scott remains a contributor. Just a few "germaine" thoughts from a long time reader.

It's the worst of times and best of times for Joe Barrett.

Jerry Brown as Governor is the far lefty's "best of times," yet a Republican & Tea Party House of Representatives is the "worst of times."

Or as Reed Spurt would write, the "wurst of thymes." Then Higby would pretend as though he deliberately wrote that.

LET ME SAY "CREDIBILITY IS EARNED" BY BEING CONSISTANT, RIGHT AND STANDING FOR THE SAME. WE CAN ALL LOOK UP THE MEANING IN A DICTIONARY BUT LIVING IT IS ANOTHER GAME. EVEN RON KAYE DOESN'T LISTEN TO KNOWLEDGABLE PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO ORGANIZE THAT'S HIS WEAKNESS. WE DO NEED A MEANS FOR THE PUBLIC TO EXPRESS, CHANGE THE LAWS ON HOW THE CITY FUNCTIONS. IT INCLUDES MATTERS TO DO WITH PLANNING, AUDITS OF FUNDS, THE RUNNING OF LAUSD, THE RUNNING, MANAGEMENT OF DWP, THE DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS TO PAY FOR RUNNING THE CITY. THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED IN ALL COUNTS TO DO THAT, IT'S OUR TURN TO FIX AND GUIDE THIS PROCESS. NO WELL EDUCATED, ARTICULATE, EINSTEIN IS GOING TO DO THAT BECAUSE THEY CLAIM TO KNOW MORE THAN THE MAN ON THE STREET. IT'S WHAT HAS DOOMED US FROM THE BEGINNING. LINCOLN WAS SELF EDUCATED UP TO HIS ADULT YEARS. GREAT PEOPLE DON'T HAVE SIGNS ON THEIR HEADS. BUT THEY DO KNOW WHATS NEEDED.
