Afternoon Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Tuesday

The image above is provoking a major amount of speculation on its origin within CD 14. It seems that according to multiple blogs, including one we all know, someone in-house among the numerous staffers of Councilman Huizar, had a little fun with their boss. The "latinopoliticsblog" posted the image above and were rewarded with a rare response from none other than Councilman Huizar. Knowing an exclusive journalistic opportunity when they see one, the webmaster posted after Huizar's comments if he care to discuss "CLARTSgate", but by then "Tricky Huizzy" had disappear back into cyberspace.
Memo to Dennis Romero at the LA Weekly, this is how Councilman Dennis Zine trolls for chicks. Notice that he has no need for the services of the "Drivin Ms. Daisy of LA Politics". Yet, Zine's "trampin escapades" may had cost him today when his latest squeeze's employer Tutor Construction lost their bid for a major contract at LAX.

It was not long ago that longtime neighborhood council activist Tony Butka was chatting up his chances of becoming "City Councilman Tony Butka", with the likes of KRLA's Kevin James. But while deciding to withdrawal his candidacy, Butka has redirected his energies in a "bloggin direction" with his new "NELA Lives blog".

One of Butka's first scoop was this post When is an "opinion Poll" Not a poll? It seems that one of Butka's sources got curious when a pollster called their residence and proceeded to ask questions about the CD 14 elections. Noting that all the comments about Councilman Jose Huizar were positive and the Rudy Martinez questions were negative, the source asked the pollster who they were polling on the behalf for and the pollster responded "FM3". Butka did some quick research and found that "FM3" is short hand for Fairbanks, Maslin, Maulin, Metz and Associates who is working on behalf of ....... Councilman Jose Huizar.

Then today, with "CLARTSgate" still the dominant topic, Team Huizzy finds a "friendly blog" to release their pre-ordained results.

Your thoughts........ and pity the staffer who mocked "Huizzy Corleone".

Red Spot,

A couple of things:

1. It's 4:44pm, and "lefted" is still not a word. Please make a note of this.

2. Can you post something about CD14 for those of us who don't live there? It has been nearly four minutes and you haven't written about CD14 yet.

When you're done doing that, please write about cd14 again. Those of us in the other Districts can't get enough, since we don't know a damn thing or have an ounce of interest.

And finally, can you please write about CD14?

In the future, I hope you can write about CD14.

When you get a chance, please update us on CD14.

And "lefted" STILL isn't a word!

Wow, Scottie!

Now you caught...

A pollster!

Working on behalf of...

Jose Huizar!

Actually polling people!

Calling people up!

Asking them who they will vote for!

Alert the media!

....

Scottie, one more thing.

Are you freaking insane?

"Then today, with "CLARTSgate" still the dominant topic, Team Huizzy finds a "friendly blog" to release their pre-ordained results."

So you ADMIT this is NOT a Huizar-friendly blog!

(But be honest, it's also the ONLY place where "CLARK-BAR-GATE" is 'the dominant topic' - mainly because it's the only tool left in your Huizar-bashing toolkit.

OH, and did fail to mention that the "dominant" response to your last post on this issue was that almost entirely to the point that it's a non-issue, and that you're full of it!

Um, but did you bother to read the reply from Huizar about where the "Godfather" poster came from?

SEE, this is why you're still banging away at this "CLARTS" dead issue. You get an answer, its reasonable and most likely true, but it isn't negative enough for you to continue beating Huizar over the head with it- so you just PRETEND like the answer never existed.

By all means Reed Spit, don't let a perfectly logical explanation like "the poster was a gift from an Italian-American civic organization" get in the way of your rants and screeds.

It's no fun to have to work hard to "twist" the truth, when you can just take the lazy way out and IGNORE it.

Let this be a lesson to anyone reading an RS post... never, never, NEVER, take his posted interpretation of what someone says on another blog as true. Click through the link and read what they say yourself. (Apparently his reading comprehension level lies somewhere south of his spelling capabilities).

Whoa, SPIT. I think I know now why Scott Johnson is so very pissed about the CLARTS business and especially as it has to do with El Sereno.

Not only is his co-signer on the LA32 neighborhood council letter he posted earlier today, requesting CLARTS details -- Anthony Manzano - ENDORSING Jose Huizar, but so are at least 6-7 of the other LA32 Board members... all listed among Huizar's supporters, plus even more past LA32 board members.

Which means he's really a very lonely boy on this one.

And, I don't believe I saw ANY LA32NC people - current or past - among the predominantly Eagle Rock AARP members supporting Huizar's opponent.

To combat the poll, Rudy Martinez's people have posted their own poll showing Rudy Rich has a 95 percent approval rating at the "Art Synder Retirement Villa" where he collected most of his petition signatures.

OH, and he has almost a high a rating among the people listed on his "friends and family" phone plan.

Also, among the other restaurant owners who are members of the Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce, who contributed a large portion of the campaign contributions he didn't put in himself.

Friends, it's simple. We're in a lose-lose situation.

On the one hand, most people have had it up to here with Huizar's shit.

But if Huizar loses, it only emboldened Redspotus Illliteratus.

Only the poor, uneducated morons can control this. But for those who are holding out until I, Loretta Mahon, chimes in, I am now prepared to endorse Rudy Martinez, although it'll only give us more Red Spot.

Then again, maybe he'll write about something ELSE for a change.

Poor Tony Butka.

He's whining on his new blog about how he just "discovered" that incumbents have a lot of advantages against challengers by virture of their office.

No, REALLY? How far into the campaign was that?

(Meanwhile the City Clerk site shows he never even turned in the few hundred signatures needed to get on the ballot.

Making excuses because he couldn't find 500 people (out of several hundred thousand) willing to even sign their name just to see him run? Yah, I think so.

All bluster, no brains.

Sorry, but someone what DUMB about the reality of local politics has no business voting, let alone running for office.

(Just what we need, too. Another sour grapes blogger throwing stones, but offering no solutions.)

Yes, 6:41, you're probably right - "Jose is losing it."

At this rate, by the time Rudy Rich's people release all the "NEW" undiscovered, unreleased terribly damaging dirt they've collected (on one of the most examined and scrutinized Councilmembers on this or any other city politics blog), he will have probably lost EVEN MORE.

What's the next piece of "expose" -- Huizar paid staff members to attend community meetings, JUST TO PROMOTE HIMSELF (well, and to find out what stakeholders need, but...)? He lit holiday trees in CD14 JUST TO PROMOTE HIMSELF (well, and generate a little community goodwill, during a dismal economy, but...)? He's working to revitalize Broadway JUST TO PROMOTE HIMSELF (well, and to turn one of the main downtown business districts around, create jobs, and reduce blight, but...)?

Heck, by March 8 he could be drifting WAY down, to -- oh, geez, 89-90 percent approval.

TIME TO PANIC, HUIZAR. An anonymous poster here (also probably Red Spot), says you are THROUGH, now!

And with people thinking you've stolen CLARKS candy bars bought with taxpayers funds, from the children of CD14, you may NEVER, ever again get back above a 60-70 percent approval rating.

(Your days on Council are numbered - no more than about 3,000, due to Prop. R - must be time to run for Mayor, Jose. That's what people that the angry ranting Red Spots of CD14 hate, do NEXT!)

I FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY GET IT!

Like a teenager crying out for attention, Scott feels insecure and inadequate. If Jose Huizar would just once, JUST ONCE, grace one of his posts with a reply, Scott would feel important, proud and confident. He would finally put an end to this childish behavior. And THAT, folks, is why Huizar won't do it. Huizar knows that Red Spot hurts Rudy Martinez's candidacy every time he posts about CLARKS. Now with Huizar pulling ahead by a whopping 40%, he has nothing to lose. So we're stuck with this... is that right, Higby?

Red Spot,

This is your councilman. Because you've been so diligent, I'm going to admit everything.

I stole ALL the CLARKS bars and gave them out as Halloween candy, but not to any kids in your part of CD14.

I also told that charity you hate so much (the one where the volunteers have FAMILY members) that not only could they serve alcohol at a City facility, they had to serve it, and they MUST serve it to minors, as well.

And, because I'm incredibly lazy, I've cut back the number of hours I work from THREE TIMES as many as you've every worked in a week, to just TWICE that number.

Signed "your obsession". . .

-- Hose Juizar

P.S. Now please, PLEASE keep posting on behalf of Rudy Martinez, so my approval numbers will go even higher. I'd like to hit 99 percent by summer, and maybe 104 percent by my birthday whcih I'm sure you know the date for, since you're stalking me. (I'm also assuming when I say "104%" that you're as bad at basic math as you are with spelling and grammar).

You're just the little cockeyed cowboy to help me reach those rating goals.

Thanks, and have a ranting good New Year.

This is exactly what pollsters who have been hired by candidates do.

They try and find out the strengths and weaknesses of each major candidate in order to help design the media messages.

If you don't understand that much, you don't belong running for office or commenting on those who do.

This is Politics 101.

What in the sam hill are you talking about?

What "crime" has even been suggested. Even the crazy ranters here and the ALL CAPS GUY haven't suggested there's any "crime" involved.

An elected official spent City funds on City business, the way he saw fit, and the way his opponents wouldn't have.

They're pissed, and they want him to stop what he's doing and get in a pissing match over what truly "benefits" CD14 (like anyone posting here would have the first clue).

Nothing to investigate, not even anything to "report" that isn't already public record.

Try to keep up, this is all just partisan BS. Three months from now Jose Huizar and Rudy Martinez will go out for lunch together, ask about each other's kids, and act like nothing happened.

They just think they can ring us out over this bickering, because we're too simple-minded to know there's nothing to it.

Ethics, the DA, etc. wouldn't return Red Spot's phone calls any sooner that Cubas babe he's fixated on. (It there was something to "report" to anyone as being illegal, unethical, immoral, or fattening and Red Spot was really as worked up about it as he acted, he would have already done that).

It's beig played out here, and in minor media, for that basic reason - there's NOTHING to file or report with any authorities.

P.P.S.

Red Spot, I almost forgot to also admit, I have other movie posters beside the Godfather one - with my picture on them, in my garage at home, in my toolshed, and in my private "reading room" at the office.

One has my picture as Scarlet O'Hara in "GWTW" where I'm saying "As God is my witness, I'll never lose an election" (That was given to my by a group in the "southern" portion of my district, of course)

In another, I'm Eddie Olmos in "American Me" and it shows me escaping from prison after your relentless charges of "croonie-ism" finally put me there. (A gift from some of the former gang bangers at El Sereno's Victory Outreach church).

Finally, there's one of me on my back -- you'd like to see that, huh? -- as Charlton Heston painting the Sistine Chapel in "Agony and Ecstacy" - the former being you; the latter being serving all the other people of CD14.

(That was from the Collaborative Eagle Rock Beautiful Group, as a thank you for all the CLARKS funds diverted to them to buy contraband paint brushes)

Now my conscience is clear...

Hose

"An elected official spent City funds on City business, the way he saw fit, and the way his opponents wouldn't have...Nothing to investigate, not even anything to "report" that isn't already public record. "

Let me try to Clarify:

1) The CLARTS fund was created to compensate the local community for the construction of an undesirable facility.

2) Those funds are earmarked to be spent in certain ways to benefit the local community. The money does not BELONG to the city, it is merely MANAGED by the City.

3) Councilman Huizar transferred some of the CLARTS funds to the City, supposedly for "administrative convenience".

4) Councilman Huizar is now unwilling or unable to document that the money transferred to the City was eventually spent the way it was supposed to be spent.

5) Even if you grant Huizar the benefit of the doubt and believe the money was not redirected to other projects or to salaries, once the money comes from the Councilman's discretionary fund he is able to claim political credit ("brought to you by Jose Huizar") where no credit was due since he had no part in the creation of the CLARTS fund.

re: #5, above, your main point.

How is that any different than any other dollar spent by the City, that Councilmembers direct?

City Councilmembers take credit for everything tax dollars, fines, fees, etc. pay for in the City -- always have, because they're the one's "bringing them to us" in the way of programs and benefits.

All CLARTS is is a "tax" or "fee" assessed to a particular facility. No different than parking lot fees, traffic tickets, or even funds sent down from state or federal governments.

There's no difference here. You're just playing word games - and not very well. And as far as who "created" the fund -- who cares?

No councilmember in office today really "created" any revenue coming into the city to pay for anything - but those that WIN elections get to decide how they're spent.
