Happy 2011!
Labels: happy new year
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

Can someone please kill the architect of LA Live for this horrendous structure and send in an army of bulldozers to destroy this mess?

So much fun, and so revealing watching portions of the Northeast L.A. Xmas parade from early December on Ch. 35 today - between bowl games.
Rant all you want here, but the people's reactions say it all.
-- A smiling Jose Huizar rides by with family, to many cheers and waves from the crowd and people running into the street to shake his hand.
-- Some time later, an unhappy looking (candidate) Rudy Martinez -who was supposedly "banned" from the parade by one of the know-nothing anons here(?) - rides by in a little white convertible with (his?) two kids -- and no spouse. He waves (no one responds), and points as if he sees someone he recognizes (their faces showing a definite "who's this guy?" reaction, but overall it's just. .
.
.
.
(crickets chirping and people looking bored and staring down the parade route to the next middle school drill team or group of horsies).
No recognition.
No support.
No chance. Don't take my word for it - watch for yourself next time its replayed.
Buh-bye Rusy Rich, thanks for playing.
You can now, like Alvin Parra, Brian Heckmann, Ruby De Vera and Victor Griego tell people over rich people's cocktails: "I ran for City Council once."
You can't pull an unknown rabbit like this out of the hat, no matter how much personal wealth is involved -- and in a matter of weeks, unseat a popular incumbent.

Wisconsin Badgers get their asses handed do them at the Rose Bowl! They were expected to easily when this game, but then Phil Jennerjahn showed up at the game and well, it was all downhill from there.

Actually TCU had always been the favorite. The final line was 3 points. Since they only won by 2, you would have won by betting Wisconsin and taking the 3 points.
I'm sure that's what Phil did.

Phil "Mush" Gamblerjahn's record is pristine: EVERY CONTEST HE TOUCHES TURNS TO MUSH!
Not only didn't his Wisconsin Badgers not cover the point spread, they lost the game outright!
And all because of Phil "Mush" Gamblerjahn.
And let me add this: Phil is a tour guide/birthday party clown who denies that he took any of the $200,000 from Recall City Hall, after being badgered, pun intended, about the money's whereabouts.
So how would a guy who probably makes less than $20,000 per yer manage to score tickets to the Rose Bowl? Even if he didn't get them, he sure talked like he would score them.
And how did Phil get a front row seat for the Rose Parade in front of the Norton Simon Museum?

Ha ha TCU destroys Wisconsin! Phil will blame it on Paul Krekorian and Joe Barrett!

My resolution for 2010 is to leave Red Spot alone.

The pictures of Councilmember Huizar from the NorthEast L.A. holiday parade certainly tell a story - like you say.
I just want to make sure I am getting all the angles on this picture. A few simple questions can help to widen the perspective.
Are we watching a replay of the untouched live feed from the parade or was there ANY post-parade editing?
(This would be important if we have shots of spectators only edited in with shots of the parade procession. How would I know I wasn't watching a spectator reaction to Miss El Sereno spliced in with the Councilman's pass by of the camera station?)
Was the outpouring of affection for Mr. Huizar equally enthusiastic along the entire parade route as it was shown to be at the camera station stop?
Was the official policy of the parade security to permit spectators running into the street and up to the parade participants?
Or was this behavior permitted only for a pre-approved number of people only when Councilmember Huizar's vehicle went past the camera station?
Just trying to make sure I get the right picture on Mr. Huizar's popularity.
