Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Wednesday
Fans in the Foothills are looking forward to a second act for Paul Krekorian in next year's election. Except Lakeview Terrace activist Kristin Sabo who isn't yet convinced that Krekorian will fight creep from the CRA into the North Valley locale.
The bacon truck is the next big thing. Not sure what Hamburger Jan Perry thinks of them rolling through South Central. She's more concerned with imposing a nanny state on South Central LA where hamburgers are more dangerous than bullets.
Everyone is aghast at public pensions these days. Meg Whitman has a great idea as she wants to put these pensions on the ballot for the people to chop up. As opposed to Jerry Brown who want to put pensions on the state credit card.
Phil Jennerjahn has some fuzzy math on Tom LeBong's pension. Still his overall premise that this guy shouldn't retire in luxury on the public dime is correct.
Labels: CRA, food trucks, jan perry, Jerry Brown, meg whitman, paul krekorian, phil jennerjahn, tom labonge

I'm going to start referring to Meg Whitman as Hurricane Meg.
She's going to go into Sac Town, loud, destructive, and scare a lot of people.
Loud because she will have most of CA on her side.
Destructive because the way the state legislates now is dysfunctional and needs to be torn a part and rebuild.
And she will scare all of those groups and individuals that rape our state every day. This includes the legislators and special interest groups.
Let's GO HURRICANE MEG!

I'm glad you pointed out dopey Phil's "analysis" of Tom LaBonge's pension.
First of all, note that ALL of Phil's numbers are GUESSES. What kind of an IDIOT makes a public information request and still does the analysis before receiving them?
What's the point of doing that?
Moreover, I HATE Tom LaBonge, but his pension is based on years ALREADY SERVED. No matter what this moron does now, he is still going to get that pension.
Phil Jennerjahn has shown us time and again and comprehensive inability to conduct an intelligent assessment of a situation.
Last week he finally responded to the question about what his City Council platform is, and he said he wanted to "clean up City Hall."
Phil didn't provide any details whatsoever. But as another commenter pointed out before I had a chance to, "cleaning up City Hall" is not the job of the City Council. It's the job of the City Attorney; City Controller; and the Ethics Commission.
As much as it pains me to see LaBonge get another dime of the public's money, the pension is already his. But Phil either didn't think of that, or doesn't care about that.
The rules of pensions are easy to understand. Except Phil, who never bothered to learn about it, and didn't even wait for the public information to arrive.
It's sad that he is going to again take votes away from other people who are willing to challenge Labonge and the other incumbents.
Ironically, LaBonge may end up getting another term BECAUSE of Phil Jennerjahn, not despite him.
Meanwhile, he still hasn't backed off of his claim that he raised 50 times what Ron Kaye brought in for Clean Sweep. That's $200,000. Phil hasn't explained where that money went. Phil hasn't explained why he couldn't get out a SINGLE mailer. Phil can't explain how, while he doesn't have a regular job or car, that he had money to rent a car and enter the World Series of Poker, whether a satellite game or not.
Either Phil was lying about the $200,000, or he needs to explain its whereabouts.
And he owes an apology to Steven Box and the public for HARRASSING him about his religious beliefs.
And finally, he needs to apologize to James Andion for taking his URL, PROMISING to give it back, and then RENEGING on that promise.
See Phil? All of your misdeeds are cumulative. You'll be a child and run for office and come in last again. But all of your actions will follow you around.
Life is funny that way.

MEGa dope Whitman is a loser. She spends all that money and gets nothing. If she really cared about jobs, she could have used that money to start a business (perhaps many businesses) and hired people. (not campaign hacks)
hey Higby, can you post the Real Clear Politics polls showing Jerry taking the lead and Mega Dope sinking?
thanks buddy.

That is a great analysis and summary of Phil Jennerjahn's childish behavior.
Allow me to add to it.
PHIL,
BASED ON YOUR HISTORY OF COMING IN LAST PLACE; YOUR ANTAGONISTIC BEHAVIOR IN ELECTIONS; NO PLATFORM; AND A HISTORY OF FAILURE ON PROJECTS LIKE THE RECALL, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER THAT OVERCOMES ALL OF THESE NEGATIVES?
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT YOU'VE HAD MULTIPLE CHANCES TO PROVE YOURSELF, BUT HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT?
BASED ON THIS RECORD, WHY SHOULD ANY OF US VOTE FOR YOU?
IF YOU DON'T ANSWER, WE WILL KEEP ASKING UNTIL YOU DO ANSWER.

Krekorian's office seems to love the CRA. Well, at least his staff sure does. They happily burble about the great CRA to whoever will listen.
That should seriously worry at least a few people who voted for Paul given who now runs the CRA with the same backing she had during the campaign.
The CRA has its eyes on land that was part of a very large family nursery in the middle of an entirely rural, residential area in LVT along Foothill Blvd. The family who owns it wants zoning changes to build high-density housing. They've been trying to get the community to go along with the zoning change for years. Wendy Gruel to her credit sided with the community and refused to support such infiltration.
Now pops up the CRA, trying to expand the Pacoima/Panorama City zone into LVT. They don't need anyone's permission to violate local zoning and plans. They don't need to publish their current plan for expansion, either. They simply show up with a few maps that actually show the land take-over at a few public meetings, then disappear back into their offices. When you ask to get a copy of those maps, you're told those are "works in progress" and unavailable.
Violating the local zoning and community plan to put high-density and high-density mixed use along Foothill is one of those keystone/toe-hold projects that can entirely reface a community. Having someone in the drivers seat on this issue like the CRA, who pretty much doesn't have to follow the rules, would be devastating.
If Paul supports this aggressive take-over, there will be thousands of people who will never forgive him.
Unfortunately, they'll figure this all out when it is far too late.

Even Rasmussen has Brown ahead!
Anonymous said:
9:28,
Instead of saying that Brown is ahead, why not give the specific percentage point that they provide?
And given whatever lead it is, are you confident that it'll last to a victory?
Be bold and tell us what you think it means in the end.

It's odd how Phil requested public information, but didn't wait to GET it in order to do his analysis.
PHIL: I would like to hear your reasoning for doing that? Why did you request the information if you didn't want to wait for it in order to make statements that may or may not be relevant to the information?
As for LaBonge making $50,000 when he worked for Ferraro, you're clueless. He was a TOP advisor for a LONG time. He made WAY more than $50,000.
Proving again that you're a total boob.

That's a heck of a lot of content about Phil Jennerjahn. I think it's all from one person, too? Can you do something about it? How about a side blog for people that don't want to read the crap clogging up your comment section. I think someone is getting paid to keep the topic of real things.

I guess I wouldn't mind one comment from someone explaining why this is the Phil Jennerjahn Blog? This blog gives me the creeps.

It doesn't matter how much LaBonge made working for Ferraro. Retirement payments ("pensions" are for police officers and firefighters)are calculated on the the persons highest 12 consecutive months of salary. For professional staff, that's usually their last 12 months.
Phil is a moron for not waiting until he gets the facts to start throwing out numbers. Who would want someone that irresponsible in elected office.
The calcuations with LaBonge aren't easy. He started in the City Employees Retirement system as a Ferraro staffer, went to the DWP which has a separate retirement system, and then became an elected city official.
Employees have their payment calculated by taking 2.16 and mulitiplying by the number of years of service, and then multiplying that by the highest 12 months salary.
So, if LaBonge served 30 years in the City Employees Retirement system and his highest 12 consecutive months salary was $176,000, that's $114,048 per year, which may increase for cost of living each year.
Legally, you can't take that away from someone who has earned it.
But, as has been done with police and fire pensions, you can create a new set of rules (a new tier) for new employees.
LaBonge being able to retire with a handsome retirement payment isn't the issue. It's all the other employees who are guaranteed the same deal under the same system.

Thanks for the specifics 11:55!
I'm a LaBonge hater, too, but what I really resent is a malcontent like Phil thinking that there's anything he can do about it.
The rules are the rules.
LaBonge is going to retire with great financial comfort. He doesn't deserve it, but you need to deal with it. Your parking meter rates and other things are paying for it.
If Phil or anyone else thinks that they can do better, I would suggest that they find competent, honest and capable candidates to elect.
That sure isn't Phil! He's a quitter, and a multiple time last place loser, who childishly steals URLs, quit on the Recall, has a gambling habit that he writes about online, and who denies others their religious freedom.

MEG'S A HURRICANE ALLRIGHT MORE LIKE A TORNADO WHO WILL TEAR THIS STATE APART WITH HER ABILITY TO GET NOTHING DONE INCLUDING WITH THE STATE ASSEMBLY. MORE WAVES WILL MEAN MORE WAVES AND NO CHANGE. AS FAR AS KREKORIAN HE IS STILL AN INSIDER WHO WILL HELP THE OTHER COUNCILMEMBERS AGAINST YOU. JUST WATCH.

Gilligan's Island still has no answers, but lots of you can't do talk. Some people shouldn't get out of bed. Now that we all know what you can't do, what can you do? Let's not play hopeless!

2:48,
Everything you wrote about Meg is FACTUALLY true......about Jerry Brown's time as Governor in the 1970s.
At least with Meg, we can HOPE she's successful. With Jerry, we already know how he works as Governor. And a leopard doesn't change its spots.
Hopefully, Meg will run the state in the best way she knows how to: as a business. The only question is whether she can make the ASSembly come along.

2:48... she's a hurricaine in the way I described.
As far as the assembly goes... what do they do for us now? Us being the regular everyday CAian. Not a special interest group, lobbyist or union employee?
Remember this too, the Assembly is up for re-election and election in 2012. If they cont being pawns for special interest and continue to block progress, they will be voted out?
Why? How?
If whitman wins its because people are tired of the same BS the everyday corrupt pols play. And Whitman will have the power as a sitting gov to get on TV and radio and remind CA who the problem is and how the Assembly is not on our side and never has been on our side.
Phil Jennerjahn said:
11:55 Yes, you can take their pensions away.
You have the City file for bankruptcy.
Then they get nothing.
