Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Friday
City Controller Wendy Greuel has come out with a report that says that with $111,000,000 in Obama Stimulus Funds the City of Los Angeles was only able to create 55 new shovel ready jobs. That comes to about $2 million per job. Cynthia Ruiz, President of Los Angeles Board of Public Works responded by saying "We're hoping to have some changes in the next six months." And you all wonder why people are pissed.
There's more...
LA is the City with the most pedestrian deaths and worst sidewalks in America. Despite that, as reported by LAist editor Zach Behrens, only three members of the City Council - Eric Garcetti, Bill Rosendahl and Jan Perry - have appointed reps to the Pedestrian Advisory Committee which is supposed to have a rep from each Council district as well as reps appointed by the Mayor. On top of that only Garcetti sends one of his staffers to the committee's meetings. Finally, as noted by Zach, LAs Department of Transportation hasn't updated the committee's minutes on it's website in over a year. I guess our Clowncil and Mayor really believe the song Walkin' In LA.
Michael Jackson's mother Katherine is suing AEG saying that the organization failed to provide lifesaving equipment to the late King of Pop's doctor.
Mulholland Terrace at Griffith Park Wayist is deeply troubled by the Tea Party movement. He quotes statist RINO David Brooks, who attends the same cocktail parties as folks like Christopher Buckley. Brooks throws out red herrings citing ancient history as a reason not to be concerned about the growth of government. Whatever one thinks of the various Tea Party movements their anger is fueled by years of out of touch, chablis guzzling, elitist beltway Republicans and Democrats who are regularly responsible for debacles such as those noted in the first story of this hotsheet. Pretty or not Tea Party members, like Peter Finch, are as mad as hell at the elites - from Villaraigosa to Murkowski to Castle to Karl Rove to Obama - and are not going to take it anymore. I wouldn't get in the way of that.
The LAPD is searching for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a 12 year old girl from Luther Burbank Middle School. Read the blog post and keep your eyes open.
Who cares what's in your wallet! It's what's in your kit. The LA Fire Department has some great tips on how to prepare a disaster preparedness kit for you and your family.

The City secured $594M in ARRA funds in March and the City laid off over 300 employees in July? And in August, the CAO is threatening more layoffs by October, if more concessions aren't secured from unions? And now, we find out that $111M of stimulus funds to the City is not being appropriated as was intended?
Who, in the City, knew that these funds were coming and when did they know it?
This is just too much politics and gamesmanship with peoples' livelihoods at stake here. This is just not acceptable. Administratively speaking, some heads should roll over this!

One thing that I alwasy find amusing about Phil Jennerjahn is the fact that he will pick up a completely legitimate story on CNN or Fox News, and then get high about the subject and post babbling rants, without being able to EXPLAIN what the controversy is about.
This is why Phil Jennerjahn cannot articulate what his platform is for City Council.
Do you remember the time he attacked Steven Box for what PHIL thought was his religious beliefs? IT LOOKS LIKE PHIL SCREAMING "FREEDOM HATER" DOESN'T APPLY TO PHIL, SINCE PHIL ONLY BELIEVES IN RELIGIOUS FREEDOM FOR HIMSELF, AND NOT FOR STEVEN BOX.
Phil refused to apologize. You cannot vote for someone who refuses to apologize for attacking someone else's freedom.
Same thing re: the vote for Antonio. I hate Antonio Villaraigosa as much as anyone in Los Angeles. But he was legally and duly elected. But PHIL DOESN'T RESPECT THE FREE CHOICE THAT PEOPLE EXERCISED TO PUT HIM IN OFFICE. IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT ONLY 10% OF THE PEOPLE VOTED. THOSE WHO DIDN'T VOTE EXERCISED THEIR RIGHT NOT TO VOTE. BUT PHIL'S GOOFY RECALL ATTEMPT, WHICH HE QUIT ON DAY #1, DISREGARDED THE FREE & FAIR VOTE.
So the next time this multiple LAST PLACE LOSER, this QUITTER, this obnoxious man-child calls someone a "freedom hater," turn the tables and ask him why HE hates freedom.
Some candidate. He hasn't been to City Council in months. He would be a no show in office, too.
And the best that Wisconsin can do nowadays is to choose to vote for Sean Duffy, whose only claim to fame is that he was on MTV's The Real World. Way to go Wisconsin. Elect a reality show contestant....who married a reality show contestant.
Wisconsin is fucked.
Anonymous said:
Great point, 8:06. Yes, the Congressional candidate from Phil's hometown Congressional District is indeed that same Sean Duffy.
He married Rachel Campos, and both are alum of MTV's the Real World.
The collective childishness of Wisconsinites is a little more understandable today.
Silly cheeseheads.

It's funny to see SLEAZEBAG WENDY GREUEL primping for the cameras to expose poor use of Obama's stimulus cash.
SHE was a Councilmember when this was being formulated before BHO was prez, and she's acting as if she's the one doing us a favor.
Get ready for more sleaze if the next mayor comes from city council. Wendy, Eric, Jan or whoever, it's a sleaze parade.

What about Pelosi?

You attack Box for his platform, but at least he stated one!
What's yours? And what's your excuse for not publishing it yet?
We'll keep asking until you answer. And you already know what stonewalling has done for your past campaigns.
LAST PLACE FOR PHIL JENNERJAHN, BAY-BEE!!!!!!!!!!

The ARRA funding had nothing to do with the jobs with the City that were lost. That money was specific to various projects.
Did someone take one line from the audit and then use it? Where did the money go specifically? What projects were completed with the ARRA funding, besides the transportation projects that bear the signs, "Funded by ARRA...blah, blah"? What is the remaining money earmarked for?
Someone should be able to answer those questions.

Creating "shovel ready jobs" has nothing to do w/ keeping on city employees whose pensions are 80% of the city budget.
The money was supposed to create REAL, needed jobs. As it is, most of the city employees slated to lay off were shifted to DWP, lAX/LAWA and the PORTS. So we're paying our DWP bill to keep on useless employees NOT infrastructure.
When Nahai objected to this kind of stuff Higby and the other Republican hacks call him "disgraced" because they can't keep their hatreds from making their mouths spew garbage.
Like with Meg Whitman, the so- called fiscal conservate who wants to privatize a lot of state civil service jobs But pandered to the lAPPL's rightwing Paul Weber clique and other cop/ firefighter unions by promising to exempt them from any pension freezes. Even though their pensions are the single biggest source of the budget problem.
Gutless eMeg, sure proves that she's ready to fall in with the old fat Republican male hypocrite crowd.

During the Mayor's race, people asked Phil repeatedly for his platform. He not only failed to produce it, the day after the election, he crybabied at city council that he needs to re-assess his career goals.
During the recall, Phil never produced an oft-requested strategic plan for the recall, but it never materialized.
"NOONE" asked him for one for the Congressional race, and he finished in last place anyways.
Now Phil refuses to provide his written, detailed platform for city council.
Last.
Last.
Last.
Wanna guess how he will finish this time making the same mistakes?
John Phillips at KABC said ON THE AIR that Phil was a "vanity" candidate only. True dat.

Mayor Sam,
I have a question that I really want you to address, okay?
Why don't you ask about, or post questions about, Phil's proclivity for gambling?
If he wasn't perpetually running for office, I could MAYBE understand that. But he is a self-declared candidate (again) and he has ON HIS OWN, published his gambling exploits on various gambling websites.
If it was any incumbent, I'm sure you'd be on top of it, like you were on Willie Williams gambling activity.
Why not give Phil the same scrutiny, given that he has declared for city hall in 2011?
Anonymous said:
Higby, I'm with 10:54, and it's GOOD that you are posting the comments with these important and serious questions.
But personally, I would like to see YOU asking these same questions.
You should be as troubled by Phil's sudden cash influx and the degree to which HE HIMSELF wrote about his gambling exploits online.
Just because you like Phil doesn't mean you should give him a free pass on the scrutiny. Maybe you will be able to get him to answer rather than avoiding the questions altogether.
Hope to it, Mayor Sam!

Do you feel that illegal aliens, or whatever the fuck you want to call them, should be given amnesty?
If so, what does that say to the people who DID follow the rules and wait their turn in line?
What do you think should happen to the illegal aliens who steal social security numbers in order to commit income tax and immigration crimes?
And finally, what crimes by illegal aliends do you feel should be overlooked or dismissed by the court system?

Over the weekend, I was walking at a shopping area, and bumped into a cop from city hall. When I said, "long time, no see," he started laughing and said, "Yeah, the city is going broke...ha, ha, ha...I'm working at DWP, now. They'll never go broke. Ha, ha, ha."
This cop was about 60 yrs old and probably couldn't detain a school girl, anymore.
Thanks to DWP for absorbing this.

OMG!!!! The illegals are marching tomorrow and who is approving all the money they are wasting with their stupid bullshit in the streets. Let's see which city council idiots march with them to really piss off more residents to get them out of office. Will the corrupt Cedillo be with them. Any politician who sides with illegals are just as uneducated as they are. The LAPD officer who saved the pregnant woman's life was justified but the losers in Westlake who are demanding to be legal need to go back where they came from. WHere is ICE?????

Good questions 11:11am!
Before you can deal with these problems you first must have a secure border.
Then you can begin the steps to provide a pathway to citizenship, and at the same time deport those immigrants that have committed serious crimes (and thus be reasonably assured they are not coming back). Those that have come here illegally need to be registered, fined, and then enter a process that begins behind those that have emigrated here legally.
What you cannot do is deport 11 million immigrants, tear apart families, punish children, not provide education and medical needs. Nor can you make silly laws like sb1070 that only benefit Arizona's corporate prison system that Jan Brewer is in bed with.

L.A. Slimes reports today:
"California state colleges and universities will get more than $200 million in stimulus funds"
Whew, just in time. If they spend it JUST like the City of L.A., that could result in 9 or 10 people being hired.
Maybe an even dozen?
Or, they could just cover the cost of 3 full-time students' books for a semester.
Anonymous said:
Joe B, thanks for the reply FOR ONCE. You were beginning to seem like a coward on a daily basis.
As to the red herring of "tearing families apart," the cause of tearing the family apart was made when the parents decided to come here and break the law.
Also, what about the illegals who don't have children? Do you then agree that those without families should be deported?
And, yes, you CAN deport 15, not 11, million illegals. All you have to do is say that in order to get into the queue to apply for citizenship, it must be done from outside the country. In other words, if you're here, you can't apply. Leave voluntarily and apply from home.
And finally, the families have the option to leave. It is their choice not to leave together.
So, do you agree that if there are no children, the illegals should go NOW? That defeats your red herring tearing apart families point.

Joe, you don't know a damn thing. You just love spouting.
There are no private prisons in Arizona.
If you're going to make things up, or boldly lie, you should do that regarding things that can't be verified.
If you insist that there are private prisons in Arizona, I challenge you to name them.
What you do, but are hardly willing to admit, is that you look down on Jan Brewer because you think she's white trash. Yet you live in the White Trash Capitol of Los Angeles!

You're mistaking peoples MAKING FUN OF PHIL JENNERJAHN versus taking him seriously.
He puts himself out there with ridiculous ideas, and a possibly gambling problem, so he gets mocked. Since he's trying to get on city council, he's subject to scrutiny. Deal with it.

I can see why Joe B does not respond to some of these comments. They appear to be written by brain dead obsessed blog stalkers. Try to ask good questions, don't ask 5 questions in one single post. Stay on topic. Drop the name calling. Maybe you'll get a reply then.

The only reason why we need a secure border is because immigration laws are not enforced. If law enforcement were able to arrest illegals, they would soon leave of their own accord. Respect for the laws of our country comes from within, not from building a fence. Security at airports comes from having smart security like ElAl, not from minimum wage burger flippers and metal detectors. We've been dumbed down by the PC liberals to the point were there probably is no return, until things get worse.

Could you possibly refrain from approving comments from Nutty Mary? She is tiresome.
Quick answers:
I did not spend $10,000 at the World Series of Poker. I spent about $800. Won a satellite, so I walked away ahead. Just a hobby...like golf.
My platform for City Council?
1)Make sure Alarcon goes to jail.
2)Make sure Villaraigosa goes to jail.
3) Try to undo the damage done by current Council Members
Then I'll work on the other things.

Phil,
You've been through several LAST PLACE campaigns now. You should know what is supposed to be in a campaign platform, and what garbage you're stating here is junk.
You make no mention of specific cuts, specific improvements, and specific ways you want to improve the system.
"Cleaning up the mess" creating by the current City Council is a non-answer. This just proves that you're a fucking moron who enters campaigns without knowing how to build a campaign platform.
Is it any wonder to anyone that you're consistently the last place LOSER each and EVERY time?
John Phillips at KABC was on the money about you. You're in it for ego and vanity. And your childish rants take away votes from actual candidates with real plans to change the broken system.
Go ahead and accuse me, too, of being Mary Cummins. For you to think of THAT idea, you must think that everyone else is crazy about you. But you fail to realize that you are seen here as a child. A silly little middle aged man in his 40s who dresses up in cowboy gear, like you're McCloud. Except McCloud was competent and you're a non-working gambler. Oh, and on the gambling note Phil, people are really uncomfortable with a gambler in elected office. That is what brought down Willie Williams. But at least he wasn't stupid enough to WRITE about his gambling habits on a variety of blogs. You did. I wouldn't vote for Rudy Giuliani if I knew he had a gambling habit. People don't like instability, and the gambling habit plus the fact that you don't have a regular STATED job, and that you have no home family life, is as unstable as it gets.
Say hello to Last Place for us. They're keeping a seat home for you.
OH....since you said you earned "50x what Ron Kaye brought in" ($4,000), why don't you explain where the REST of the money is, and how you couldn't get out a SINGLE mailer with $200,000. Unless you were lying about the $200,000.
Thank you Joe B for exposing this moron.

The simple solution to the illegals coming and ruining our city is for all employers to use E-Verify. When ICE raided American Apparel they found over 1,600 employees using fake documents. The idenitity theft these illegals cost the US billions and hard working Americans losing their idenitities. When you drive through the communities where these illegals live like the Eastside, MacArthur Park, Echo Park, Pacoima they look like 3rd world countries and the Latino polticians don't give a damn. They support the illegals sadly because they aren't educated and they make the Latino politician feel as if they're someone. The disrespect shown to the politicians in our city by the educated, legal residents is shocking. No one gives them any respect like in the old days.

Hey Phil,
It's so cute when you write a childish trumpeting Zuma Dogg or Higby.
It makes you look like the left-out kid on the playground who will do anything in order to be liked.
You know what will make people like you? Stop acting like a self-serving child. Grow up. Stop running for a job where you consistently finish with fewer votes than absolutely everyone else in the race.
Stop denying Steven Box his right to freedom of religion, too. Stop attacking other people as freedom haters, when YOU are the one who disrespects the free and legal vote of Villaraigosa. Ironic: that makes YOU the freedom hater.
Writing about Zuma Dogg, you're not saying anything we haven't all already known for months. The fact that you're months behind surprises "noone," you mongoloid.

As one of the few people here who is a conservative Republican, I have to say that I'm rather disappointed in you Phil.
These points you posted, which you try to masquerade as a campaign platform, is not only totally lacking, it's as if you just threw them against the wall, assuming they would stick.
Phil, WHERE IS THE CONSERVATIVE VALUE in this "platform?" Where is there ANY value in these random and vague comments?
I don't know who the heck Mary Cummins is, but she is hardly alone in her criticism of you.
There is not a drop of substance in this "platform." As someone who claims to be a student of the political world, I must ask you where you came up with these thoughts?
There's not a drop of thoughtfulness in any of it.
Do you know the expression, "You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time."
Let me add this to it: "Sometimes, you can't fool anyone."
