Morning Mental Health Break

Photo credit: Gary Friedman / Los Angeles Times

“In some cases they might represent power and authority or are guardians. … In other cases, they could be our animal alter egos, our most basic selves.”
—Peter Shelton

I’m a big fan of Peter Shelton’s art installation on the west side of LAPD’s new headquarters. It doesn’t matter “what they are,” what matters is that LA’s approach to public art is evolving from the stupidly-symbolic, politically correct kitsch polluting so many American cities.

Steve Lopez, pursuing the “what are they” angle, thought William Bratton’s reaction would entertain you: Cow splat.

“I don't think anybody can figure out” what the shapes are supposed to be, Bratton said. “Bisons and hippos maybe. I haven't the faintest idea what the two tallest things are on either side.”  Nor does he understand what any of this has to do with police administration, if anything. “I don't get it,” he said. “It's just a shame.”

For the record, “they are” a rotund beast, two bison, two bears and two hippos. Go experience them.

We've already been through this topic on Mayor Sam.

Do we really need a rehash when a good, solid Morning Hotsheet would be better for everyone?

Where's Higby? Covering for Phil again? Where are Phil's Recall Antonio signatures? They're months past the date he said he'd give them to us!

I was hoping someone would post a thread for reactions about the Michael Jackson funeral, too.

That's equally timely.

"$25 sandwich, anyone?"

Someone dock Higby's pay. He's almost as absentee these days as Jose Huizar at MTA meetings.

What?

This Republican blog has nothing to say about Obama's poster boys getting booted out in Virginia and New Joisey?

Fuggeddabouddit!

CAN WE MAKE THIS AN OPEN THREAD?

Has anyone noticed that dumb way that Jose Huizar scratches his cheek very slowly when he's talking?

Huizar is a moron and this just makes me loathe him further. "I WENT TO PRINCETON! I WENT TO PRINCETON! I WENT TO PRINCETON!"

So what Jose? I did my undergrad work at Princeton, too, but you don't see me being needy enough to tell everyone about it other than now. And I'm doing it anonymously.

Just what exactly does "mental health" have to do with anyone who posts here?

Talk about oxymorons.

OMG Michael....those look horrible. What the hell are they and I bet they cost a fortune? I love art but those look like gobs of shit sitting on a piece of cement. Can hardly wait til the gang bangers spray them with different colors.

Huizar being born to illegal immigrant sharecroppers is ultimate affirmative action beneficiary. So enjoy it Huezee, no doubt you got a full scholarship too - our middle class kids don't get it so easy. Stop bragging about it.

Of course he's no dumber than most of the old white guys and gals in elected office, from LeBong to Zine "did I tell you I'm a former cop and reserve officer and smarter than any Chief?," "did I tell you I'm gay gold in the gutter Rosendahl," "who can I tax now for my new programs so I can buy some voting blocs for my run for Lt. Gov?" Janice Hahn, above all the new buffoon crashing around the city attorney's office so hard even two old-time handlers can't corral him.

And then we have Red Splat who proves that - proves nothing, except it's the dumb bloggers critiquing the dumber officials, or is it the other way around?

Huizee FROM PRINCETON must be running for something since he made a motion today to require all schools to adopt uniforms. Because some schools in South L A have gangs that wear gang colors to create problems.

Again the lowest common denominator dictating to the majority. No way should our kids in the west valley or westside or most in Hollywood have to give up their usual nice, clean clothing, their individuality, to wear ugly and more expensive uniforms which make schools feel more like a prison. This should be left upto the schools.

Again, this council can't do anything useful so they meddle in School Board Business, or gays in Iraq or hike up our parking meters without thought so they all have to be ripped out or disabled again. What about fixing our streets and sidewalks, and those sinkholes and overhead power lines before the next storm hits? What about just penalizing the gangbanger kids, not the average law-abiding kids and parents?

Relax.

There are things going on behind the scenes that you don't hear about.

There is no rush on the Antonio recall. It will take many months.

Some of the comments made here are from City Hall staffers who realize that it could possibly happen and you would be out of a job.

0 signatures collected. Happy?

Organization and structure has to be in place before legal notice is served on the Mayor.

THEN it is time for signatures.
