You know, we always called each other good fellas

"I'm the motherfucking fucking one who calls the shots."
Tony Soprano

Good call from the folks at Atwater Village Newbie:

During a week when LADWP's busted water mains swallow a fire engine and drown a major traffic artery, you might not want to go with the casual mafia lieutenant look on the evening news.

Lu Parker moves from KTLA anchor desk to field reporter Journalist has a relationship with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.Local television news anchors should beware: Dating Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa may have its perks, but career advancement is not one of them.Lu Parker, a KTLA weekend anchor and general assignment reporter who has been dating Villaraigosa since March, has left the anchor desk. Parker will report for the station, which is expanding its 6:30 p.m. newscast by a half hour starting Monday. The apparent demotion marks the second time that a newscaster involved with Villaraigosa has departed the anchor desk. KVEA-TV Channel 52 reporter and anchor Mirthala Salinas, who was involved in an extramarital affair with the mayor in 2007 while she was covering him, was suspended for two months then reassigned to the station's Riverside bureau when their relationship became public.KTLA News Director Jason Ball said Parker's move to full-time reporting "was something we had been talking about for months and months," and had nothing to do with her relationship with Villaraigosa.Last May, while working as a weekend anchor, Parker announced a story about the likelihood of the mayor running for governor in 2010.
Ball at that time said Parker would no longer cover local politics. He defended her ethics, adding, "I have the utmost faith on Lu Parker's abilities."At the time of the reports of his relationship with Parker, Villaraigosa's divorce from his wife, Corina, was not yet final.

His relationship with Salinas raised conflict-of-interest concerns and clouded his first term in office. Local political observers said the scandal could have been a contributing factor in his decision not to run for governor, though Villaraigosa has denied that.Parker, a former Miss USA who is pictured in a bikini on her website and described on the site as an Emmy-winning journalist, did not respond to requests for comment.

Not surprisong that the dinosaur L.A. Times misread this.

Going from weekend anchor (when NO ONE watches the news) to being in the field during the evening news, when a LOT more people are tuned in, is NOT a demotion. It's more and better face time, much more public exposure, and going from 3rd stringer, to at least 2nd string -- all things that every TV newsie really needs to catch a bigger break.

(Plus, now she'll have her weekends off to date L.A.'s sleaziest bachelor).

Someone drop a dime to the Slimes and tell them they should stick to what they know. Putting out news that less and less people read every day on recyled scrap paper that would have been of greater public benefit if it had been turned into paper plates for picnics.

My guess is that this Times clip was written by some catty print news bimbo who's jealous that the TV people are generally recognizable in public and become semi-celebrities in their own right, while most in-print reporters can walk through a crowded mall and never be "sighted" as anyone important.

If AV was dating a Times reporter (and why would he bother - there's no photo op possibilities there) - absolutely no one would know or care, except the other faceless journos where she worked. In public, the only comments would be "why is that AV staffer so scruffy looking and poorly dressed compared to the others in his entourage."

who has always supported AV?; who writes puff pieces on AV? Who owns KTLA?
Answer: LA Times (Tribune)
You think AV "put the word" out on her?
Another one bites the dust.

Dating the Mayor or being endorsed by him is hazardous to your political future: ask Jack Weiss. BFF of Antonio.

The guy is Persian and wears a dark shirt for the interview, so you have a whole thread calling him a mobster. Way to go, Higby.

Losers:

The distinctions between Mirthala and Lu are overlooked by all of you.

First and foremost, Mirthala commited journalistic suicide by reporting Antonio's separation from his wife on air and mentioning that an unknown female was allegedly the cause, when all the time she knew it was her.

This is called failure to make full disclosure. And she failed to inform her bosses that she was dating the mayor so they would change her beat.

That is why she got exiled to Riverside.

And, Lu has done none of that, and she did not date Antonio while he was living with and married to Corina.

That they are/were both anchors is all they share in common besides of course, good looks and the Mayor.

So, get yourselves out of the gutter and get on with some real news, not yesterday's gossip distorted.

(No, I am not paid, nor am I a staffer; just someone who believes in the truth)

Any woman dumb enough to screw the gang banger Mayor deserves all the media bashing. Lu Parker seems to be another dumb bimbo female reporter who got the job because she looks half decent. why was Antonio hiding her until the person at the Hancock Book store outed them? The fact Antonio is going for women who are on the air says he is a groupie and wants to pretend he's the star.

You know, you got a point.

I think from now on, Antonio Villaraigosa should have to announce who he is dating on Mayor Sam's Blog in order to avoid accusations that he is "hiding her out" somewhere.

Let me call the Mayor and see if he'll agree.

Mirthala is 1000% sexier than Lu Parker, who has a certain Herman Munster-like quality to her face.

Mirthala was totally fuckable.

If there were no L.A. TIMES as some think should be the case, what would take it's place for criticism?

Lots of radio stations would have to do more work instead of using the stories in the TIMES to be their "news" and the basis for their daily banter.

The TIMES is flawed but it serves a purpose as you can see that reducing the mediums where news can be obtained just makes people even less aware or even informed.

And KTLA is not doing "news" but "info-tainment,' a reason for Carlos Amezcua leaving them, as he stated on the old Conway and Whitman Show.
