Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

CD12 Chief of Staff Mitch Englander - the man who once had a massive wall chart trying to figure out who Mayor Sam was - has jumped out early with endorsements and a campaign to replace his boss Sleeping Greig Smith in 2011.  He's off to a good start with an anointing by the Westside White Guy for the "12rth (sic) Council District" with the warning to all comers that Englander - scion of a political consulting family - has the support of usual suspects Wendy Greuel, Sheriff Lee Baca and Galpin Ford magnate Bert Boeckmann.  We'll see what happens 2011 is an awful long way off (and plenty of time for us to tell you all about Mitch) and the voters have fatigued of presumptive politicians and the special interest peddlers they represent.  One LA Times reader may foreshadow the lack of support for the status quo that could hurt Englander.  The tale of the tape will come when we see how much Neighborhood Council members flex their muscle in the coming CD2 Special Election.  As it is NCs are no fans of Smith and could tag Englander as guilty by association. Englander has chosen as his campaign consultant John Shallman who is doing wonderful things for Chris Essel.  Stay tuned.

With California Lt. Governor John Garamendi a likely winner in a coming runoff for a Bay Area Congressional seat, attention has turned to who Governor Schwarzenegger will appoint to fill the remainder of Garamendi's term.  One suggestion: former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. Didn't Arnold get bit in the ass last time he appointed Riordan to something?

Zuma Dogg's role as a biblical-like soothsayer is celebrated in the blogs again when CurbedLA hat tips our piece about the recent water main breaks in Los Angeles.  Look for the usual dum dums to go bizarro again.

City Council Candidate Paul Krekorian has received the endorsement of the California Nurses Association. “It is clear to us – from both his experience and his support - that Paul will be the best representative for the Valley,” said Jill Furillo, CAN’s Southern California director. “We believe that Paul will do an excellent job in representing the Valley on health, labor and women’s issues to increase the standard of living for Registered Nurses and all residents throughout Los Angeles.”

Mitch should save his money. He is unelectable and cannot win. Not only because of his association with all the wrong people (City Hall insider crowd) but he is a very odd character with a creepy vibe people don't trust. A creepy city hall insider? NEXT!

I am willing to vote for any CD2 candidate who does not call the constituents "Crybaby Losers."

Guess that means I will vote for any body but The Zuma Dogg.

Seriously, The Zuma Dogg says he will stop his immature behavior and get along with his city council colleagues if elected. But he continues to call critics of his "Crybaby Losers." If he feels that way about the constituents, you can imagine how he'll treat the city council colleagues who he has already declared his revulsion for.

In order to have the big job, Mr. Zuma Dogg (it feels ridiculous to call a man in his 40s "Zuma Dogg" or any other childish name), you have to demonstrate that you can act like a grown up.

And calling people "Crybaby Loser" shows that you aren't a grown up yet.

I probably will call anonymous people like you "crybaby losers" on this blog if elected. Remember, you are not getting the same old Eric Garcetti, Antonio Villaraigosa, Tom Labong and all the other ass kissing phonies with Zuma Dogg. At least with ZD you will know where you stand, you crybaby loser! Did it feel ridiculous when someone named, "Zuma Dogg" nailed every BIG ITEM problem in this city until Zuma Dogg is being referred to as "biblical-style soothsayer."

Name someone who is more polite with a name you like more who is on the ballot who has proven to you that they know what is up in the way I do until you have other councilmembers calling you "genius," "prophet" and bloggers saying, "biblical-like soothsayer?"

Keep spinning...seems to be doing wonders!

Once again, it should be apparent to anyone ever involved in local political contests - even peripherally, that if someone was a serious candidate for any public office (CD2 Council, or whatever), they would have more sense than to spend HOURS here literally, each week, volleying insults with a bunch of "crybaby" losers.

The net sum gain of that approach is somewhere in the double-digit negatives.

99.99 of the people ZD should be courting to gather votes for that seat (again if "serious"), aren't here reading Mayor Sam's and never will be.

No serious candidate would spend 5 minutes posting here, rather than working to reach real voters, let alone post multiple lengthy responses in every thread, just to "have the last word" against 5-6 taunters.

Think about it, when was the last time ANYONE who won a local contest EVER posted here? And, how many last-placers do (lots!)

If you're still HERE (reading this), ZD, and thinking up a snappy response, then laugh at yourself, just like the rest of us will -- when you respond again.

Yes, 11:03am, I am responding to you at Van Nuys City Hall speaking on agenda items and public comment and it is true that I am not a traditional candidate like the rest. I am a true grassroots candidate and my votes will come from people who read blogs, attend the forums, hear me on the radio and see what I have to say about city operations on TV 35 during the council meeting.

So we'll see how it adds up on the 22nd.

I'm sure once elected, I won't have as much time to blog here. So for now, I am just enjoying the process of the campaign...attending the forums, meeting with the newspaper editorial boards I would never have a chance to address, added radio interviews as a candidate and all the new people I've met and all the people who knew "ski cap/glasses" ZD and have a chance to see "David."

So sorry I am typing a response while I listen to the council meeting on the TV, and blog and see what's up here.

AND YES, during an election cycle, I am not going to let crybaby losers like YOU have the Mayor Sam comment section to throw out whatever lies you want, un-responded to.

You WOULD like that, wouldn't you.

Keep mocking me for what I am doing while bloggers call me "biblical-like soothsayer and councilmembers call me "a prophet," "genius," say to me, "How do you know all this stuff...you must study agendas round the clock," and of course the CM who said, "he does not want Zuma Dogg dictating policy in the City of Los Angeles," (so he must have felt that I was).

And a big part of it goes down on this blog, so don't spin. And dont' expect a free pass to spin lies and deceit on the prophet, loser!

WHAT HAVE YOU SAID?

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

WHAT RECORD IS THERE OF IT?

WHAT PEOPLE STOP YOU ON THE STREET TO EXPRESS DEEP APPRICIATION FOR YOUR RELENTLESS AND TIRELESS EFFORTS?

MOCK ALL YOU WANT...the whole city is aware of my insights and predictions and amazingly, it's all coming to roost a couple weeks before the election.

And I think a lot of people may say ONE thing in their little social circle meetings...but KNOW what they REALLY want in a coucnilmember and they have seen me over two years and unfortunately, they have to "chuck" their feelings on the lack of slick politician appearances when they add up everything I've been saying over the past three years.

THERE...all I did was miss what Janice Hahn was saying as I typed this, so that's a GOOD use of time.

11:03 that is well stated.

Zuma Dogg's insistance at using his cartoonish name, and throwing taunts around, is the example of how he would be if he were on city council.

Of course, he will now insist that I'm a campaign spinner, when I have never set foot in city hall before. Ever.

Act like a child, and you'll be labeled as a child. Give yourself a cartoonish name, and you'll be soon only as a cartoonish person. Elected a manchild with a cartoonish name, and it will only make things in LA worse. "But I've been in radio! I worked in Madison Wisconsin and New York!."

Yes Mr. zuma dogg, but you also lost those jobs and by bringing attn to the jobs you ONCE had, you make people aware that you DON'T have those jobs any longer.

keep going, since it is going to be fun to see how YOU do the spinning the day after you miss the runoff.

City council is once again wasting its time on living wages.

Here is how you make BETTER than a living wage: study in school, work hard, and then you will land a better job with better benefits and better salary.

At some point, everyone's family was poor, but some how climbed the latter usually through hard work.

If you are poor now, turn up your effort and you won't be in lousy jobs.

If you don't wanna do that, then don't come crying to me when you're a janitor with four kids at LAX.

And NO, I DID NOT -- LOSE -- those jobs. I was hired up the ladder. And the last station I left, tried to hire me back a year later; and my boss in KC, HIRED ME AGAIN when HE was promoted to a bigger station. (So the first thing he did was call me to come on board.)

I never LOST a radio job. And my past 3 employers all tried to hire me back at some point.

Zuma Dogg, you are sorely mistaken if you think people believe you're going to suddenly change your behavior if you're elected.

If you're in court, as I am for a living, sentencing always considers past behavior.

Similarly, the judge of this election (the collective voters) cast their votes based on past behavior.

Unfortunately, you seem more interested in hyping yourself, and behaving obnoxiously in city hall, than in doing the right thing. Screaming is not doing the right thing.

Go ahead and prove me right by doing some more name-calling. You aren't above it.

Genuine candidates don't have time to waste on blogs, as we do.

Zuma should understand that tolerance of people that disagree with him, and people who will talk about him anonymously is one of the skills that a good elected official must have. You can't be so thin-skinned that you engage in childish name calling whenever someone criticizes you. You wouldn't last a second as an elected official with that character fault. This would be a good time for him, whichever of his personalities we're talking about, to act like a good City Councilman would act.

I think, however, that with his need for attention, he would become like all the others on the City Council and kiss each other's butts in order to be liked.

11:51- I agree to some degree with what's stated. The living wage is not what they should be spending hours on and everyone has a story about health and no insurance, including Cardenas and I think Reyes chimed in, too.

This was another good opportunity to get some face time getting down with the people that have it tough, but the jobs there are really not supposed to be careers but more like stepping stones to better jobs.

The idea of what the lack of education produces should imprint on more people so that they snap their children into shape to do their best in school- even if it's an LAUSD one- and I still think there's a disconnect that still exists.

The continuation of the need to have the government legislate things as a substitute for being educated enough to move up the ladder seems to persist. The people telling their stories of hardship supplies more emotion than fact, but the CMs take up the cause for them.

This also seems to me to be the way that businesses, especially the small ones, experience the business unfriendliness of the city hall environment.

Rosendahl is just too preachy- in the part I saw/heard today he kept saying, "It's only 25 cents! That's all that it is," referencing the extra cost for business- but how many multiples and what frequency? The Hahn gang tax was what, 15 cents or so, and she preached that back when that was up for a vote. 15 cents was really something like .15% on the property value, or some similar out-of-scale amount than what was pitched.

Well, council continues to let the businesses take little hits and then have the middle class and businesses move out of L.A., but then have poorer people move in.

The "sanctuary city" draw sort of generates conditions where they can say, "L.A. has the most uninsured when it comes to health insurance," etc., or "We have the most (name the nationality) living in Los Angeles than living anywhere else outside of (that country).

So they still don't give much recognition to the daily downward move that the city travels, going deeper into the financial hole as each one on the city council tries to look good for the t.v. cameras.

a view from cd-14-

one more thing, adding another Machine politician in the form of CD-2's CM will make things worse. As for criticism of Zuma Dogg, you see the well-coifed and clothed CMs, who also are very well staffed and funded, still can't do a decent job of operating on anything other than in response to crisis. But they don't care as long as they photograph well for a campaign brochure, ala Jack Weiss. But Tony Cardenas is looking more sinister in direct proportion to the amount of facial hair he's displaying. Ed Reyes looks like the new sheriff in town.

Rumor: Englander and Smith were equals. They made a deal that Smith would run first and Englander would follow after Smith serves the term limit (promise made before term limit increase). To ensure Smith wouldn't run for a third term, Englander cemented the deal. If Smith were to run, Englander would back an opponent. Apparently he is good at campaigning.
