These aren't big dollars, per vote -- compared to some of the recent past cutthroat races in L.A.
What they really show is that this whole lot of candidates was so uninspiring that they couldn't pay a decent number of people to turnout and vote. If people feel there's something new and worthwhile in the wind -- they do line up and vote. But to just fill in a link in a chain connected to the same double-talk mechanism?

Just looked at Essavi's statment. Most of what he spent was on a mailer. If it was absentee ballot apps then that's a good thing. Also spent a lot of money on signs.

All these cost per votes pale in comparison to what Alatoused to spend on his elections. On a regular basis he would spend upwards of $600,000 to garner his 5,000 votes. That's over $100 per vote.
Money talks, bullsh*t walks. I'm not sure why people waste their time attacking John Shallman. His clients win. He doesn't do any of the sleazy things that consultants like Ace Smith do.
His client will win this one too. The public is not going to back a transactional opportunist like Paul Krekorian. Especially when the lid is blown off his whole using his state assembly account to finance this race. Watch and learn.

Look, let's face it. Money talks in politics, there's no escaping it. If Tamar had been able to squeeze the Mayor to get some IE money for her, she might have aced Essel, but she did not have the support that was promised to her. She was badly let down by the Mayor and by her campaign staff who never delivered what they promised.
Tamar would have put her hand in her and her husband's pocket and loaned her campaign $200k, and that would have made a big difference. But her staffers were not really working for her and her supporters were less than generous. It was all going tits up in the end, and she cut her loses and wisely saved her money.
Essel now has to decide whether to buy Tamar's support or go it alone. With or without Tamar, I'm sorry to say that Essel will make the December election look like a cake walk. Essel has the money and has shown she's prepared to use it.

Her $425,000 in the primary and the $56,000 in IE's mean she had almost $480,000 spent by her and on her behalf.
