Michael,

Will you be live blogging from this location??

From LA Weekly's Paul Teetor latest on CD 2.http://blogs.laweekly.com/ladaily/city-news/city-council-district-2-specia/#more

Last night, Krekorian's press secretary Jeremy Oberstein sent out a mass invitation to Krekorian's headquarters tonight, to "any bloggers interested in live-blogging election night, or covering the evening's festivities." Word is that the refreshments will be first-class catered fare, a spread keeping with the style of Krekorian, whose campaign chest is stuffed with special interest cash from big labor and others with a vested interest in keeping the status quo at City Hall. The cash pouring into Krekorian over the summer turned this Burbank politician into one of the "haves" in this race, up against the have-nots.

Crap I was going to blog from Sitton's in NoHo but if Paul is offering world class fare...

Actually I made my rounds over the weekend and saw the food Krekorian was serving the 100 or so college students working in his office. It was hot dogs, cookies and Costco popcorn. Pretty much what college kids would want but not world class fare.

If you want good free chow, go to a Neighborhood Council meeting.

How interesting, 11:41am!

Yesterday, he virtually if not literally sabotaged his campaign by threatening to disappear if he doesn't win.

If that doesn't encourage people to not vote for him, I don't know what will. Nobody is ever gonna vote for someone who sabotages his own campaign.

Don’t let fake lines get you all stirred up.

Political districts are socially constructed. There is little science to them. Most are not even geographically consistent. Instead, they are inherently political. Lots of variables decide a political boundary. For example, Burbank’s boundaries are based on a land purchase over 100 years ago. Totally out of touch with today’s reality, right? CD 2 is the same way.

Which brings me to my point. You are fighting the wrong enemy. It’s not about draconian residency requirements. It’s about smarter political districts. Even then, it’s not really about residency.

For example, I live in CD 2, but I work, recreate, visit friends, etc. all over LA, Burbank, Glendale…I’m all over LA County. Which sort of makes me a stakeholder all over. It’s like that. Within reason of course. As you know, neighborhood councils allows, even encourage, stakeholders to get involved. There is a candidate in this very race who sits on a neighborhood council where his job is located (about 20 minutes outside CD 2). Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps he is a workaholic. Spends a lot of time at work. He is a member of that community too. That is why it’s sort of silly to berate people for moving their stuff to a home five minutes away from where they lived.

CD 2 voters should choose their council member based on who will best represent their values, not whether someone lives 5 or 15 minutes away from them.

P.S. If you are going to attack the cost of special elections you must also acknowledge that the much-needed solution, clean money, will be much more costly. Yet, just as we must support clean money becuase the alternative is undemocratic, we must also allow special elections because that is democratic.

Keep it to yo'self right now till you got your own security detail.

You don't have to concede if you feel something is fishy with the numbers.

Good old time falsification.

Look, now. Tamar will be the beneficiary, but she's not the perp.

What a desperate and transparent lie that last one is, Higby. Sure, Antonio didn't REALLY care about the SEIU, is why he pushed so hard even for Brewer to get on board with it. You were "told" this by whom, Mary Benson? Tamar also opposed Monica Garcia and Flores and Korenstein on the wisdom of building very large schools, then building MORE schools before the paint was dry because all of a sudden the "new" mantra is, "small learning communities."

She supports charters, always has, as well as magnets, and more attention to the schools of the westside and valley especially valley - too much money has gone into the PC-motivated eastside for the Latinos to appease Antonio's base. (Though how much of a base they still are, the legal ones anyway, is debatable.) With the current liberal majority voting everything 3-2, and with her often ally Marlene Canter gone to be maybe replaced by another one for Garcia, she probably feels she can do more when her hands aren't so tied.

It's late in the day to handicap the race, but the more you lie the more desperate you look. As bad as the "grassroots" candidates and the Weakly, who think mainstream = Axis of Evil. As bad as Phil the Clown.

I'm done with trying to tell you otherwise on Tamar. But in my opinion, Walter's theory of brand is not great political science. The idea that a machine wants to divide its resources among three rather than concentrate them into one is just absurd posturing.

All the top candidates can bring to Council are different flexibilities and capitulations. Some are necessarily aligned with the Mayor's hopes for urban devastation, and some are not. Essel will capitulate on planning issues and any internecine wars involving the Mayor's office. Tamar will capitulate only on coming City Attorney wars and rebukes, which in my opinion is the best capitulation to the Mayor's office that a candidate can have, because Nuch is a wild man and will need reigning in very soon. Kerkorian will capitulate on unions (it's really hard to believe Michael Higby's supporting a big-spending union-lovin' liberal who can't wait to give money to future affordable housing schemes too)--and that's actually the worst capitulation of all. But none--NONE--will capitulate to the Mayor on everything; not even LaBonge does that, though he sure does try hard to.

Please close the polls already so we can all move on.

It is fair to say that it is over for Zuma Dogg. I agree with Charlie Cheswick that he is a smart guy who sometimes plays dumb (i.e. with the karaoke and "y'all" lingo). He would have been a very good (not necessarily great) CM but he shoots himself in the foot on lots of things, including his rudeness, immaturity and obnoxious behavior. The threatening to quit thing yesterday was just his latest, but not his worst, problem.

I'll give him a hooty hoo because I think he'd be very good. But a boo hoo for not seeing this through to the end.

I did see it through to the end. I attended every forum, including showing up friday to the parish event to make sure i wouldn't be prevented from entering...blogged up until now...and went to the city council meeting for last appearances.

But yes, this is the end of the era for ZD at City Hall. But you want to try and take it out of context.

Meanwhile, competing in a City Council election is NOT my arena. I compete in it. You have Snoop Dogg showing up to the Barry Manilow concert. So I do well, considering the arena. So I don't think it's gonna go as well for me as I would have liked from a poll results standpoint. But I'm not a conforming candidate and this whole cycle went great. So we'll see how it plays out. We're going to see how 3 1/2 years of "ZD" translates in the conservative CD2. ISN'T THIS EXCITING!

I HAVE BEEN HOLDING IT TOGETHER TO FINISH THE CAMPAIGN, WHICH I DID...AND NOW I WILL BE RETIRING.

I think there are some others out there who can do what i have been doing. it might take five or ten people to do it, but I think there are a lot of people who use, "I have to earn a living and am so busy," as an excuse to do NOTHING.

So it's no big deal. Just one less public comment card. You are now free to move about the chamber.

I would not be ashamed if Pete Sanchez beat me. He's done a lot of work in the community for many, many years, conducted himself VERY WELL during the debates with good answers and has the Daily News endorsement.

I STILL THINK I WOULD BE THE BEST CM OF ALL THE OTHER CANDIDATES...

But I would feel no shame getting less votes than Pete in this election.

On Wednesday, I carry on and am still Zuma Dogg in the city of L.A., and I feel more momentum in the public than ever after this election campaign, but a lot of my supporters don't go out an vote. So I have my role and niche in the city -- every day is ZD Appreciation Day in the County of Los Angeles -- and the extent of my frustration if I lose is about equal to that of everyone else who supported the other 9 candidates who don't take the seat.

So this is going to be a good market research experiment to see how all the radio calls and TV and blogging and free media translates at the polls.

AND, regarding, "I've said that before," regarding walking away from the podium...I agree we'll never know until the days away are actually logged...BUT SERIOUSLY...it does feel like a much more conclusive tone -- and I really do think this time is different. I never said I would NEVER show up or do anything again, but I said I have retired from my "day to day activism" and REALLY DO hope IT'S OVER. So we WILL see, but don't just lump this in with the other three or four times I said I was walking away. (And I think it was only once.)

BUT ANYWAY...I fell like the HULK has turned back into Banner. So let's hope it sticks. It WILL require me to change my habits, like going back to FM instead of AM, and not even checking into this or the other political blogs and not constantly trying to get to the bottom of everything and come up with the right answers.

Just look at that Clear Channel billboard and say, "HEY...I think I'd like to see that movie, or drink that beverage being advertised."

To be able to look at a new shopping plaza and say, "Wow, that looks nice...let me walk around and enjoy the nice atmosphere and people...instead of worrying about the water pipes bursting because it's too big -- and the streets are too narrow around it, and it was probably only approved because of shady connections and is probably in violation of planning and zoning.

NO, ZD just wants to go to Pinkberry and enjoy that yogurt and see that movie on the Clear Channel illegal billboard.

Thanks to everyone who just made this the best era of my life. I'll be looking back on it for the rest of it, I'm sure. I DID IT! 9 YEARS OF ZUMA DOGG AND THREE YEARS IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. I'M IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE CITY FOREVER...I'M JUST A BIG NOBODY OFF THE STREET, A ONE MAN SHOW...NO AGENT, PRODUCERS, WRITERS, CONSULTANTS, BUDGET, NETWORKS, RADIO GIGS...NOTHING...just ONE concerned citizen who showed up to make a point. He got a little caught up by the community spirit which was such a HUGE hole that was missing in my life...so thank you to EVERYONE I have met along the way these past three years. Even if you HATE me now...it's been a great, great era...At this point, I'm focusing on everything I got out of it from the community...and you changed me for the better FOREVER...YOU REALLY TRANSFORMED ME IN A WAY THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO FOR 20 YEARS OR MORE. IT TOOK A VILLAGE, AS HILLARY WOULD SAY.

Thank you.

If we get some one-issue pothead because everyone else is too lazy, it just shows how this kind of vegetable soup election can backfire. The potheads DO vote, went out in force for Nuch because he promised to legalize pot for them, then Jane Usher told everyone that their policy would be the same as Rocky's despite the Obama admin.'s reversal: all pot shops are illegal. They're disappointed, some of their activists told Council today, but most are probably too stoned to realize what happened to them.

It's a sad day when being most qualified and articulate is a negative, taking a pig in a poke or getting a downright liar. Sheftel is neither but utterly unqualified. Sanchez is much more prepared, if you look at the men whose names start with "S."

So we'll probably end up with Essel or Paul. Thanks to dopes like Higby, enough people may wonder about Tamar's ties to Villar - tho the Daily News said she sent out almost no mailers compared to the other 2, so if she doesn't make it, that's why. People like her when they meet and hear her, but the vast majority are not paying attention. Wendy's robocalls and tv ads albeit at off hours for the insomniacs will help some - she and the Times claiming Essel's the "most independent of City Hall candidate" must have noses like Pinocchio by now. she is, however, not beholden to Fuentes like Paul, and that's good.

Wonder how much it will come out per vote among those who do vote?

I hate to disagree with you Mr. Zuma Dogg, but you did essentially sabotage your campaign yesterday and that can only hurt. That kind of thing never gets a candidate MORE votes; it only causes one to lose votes.

I hope you stick around no matter what happens in the election, but if you feel you are able to leave and that is what you want to do, then do it. I do also recall that you showed up the day after the mayor's election even though you said you were done. At some point those false claims are either going to force you into a corner or make you look disingenuous. And this is coming from some one who "gets" you.
