It's over: Krekorian and Essel. Stick a fork in it.
Huge loss for Galatzan. Big problems for Krekorian.
Krekorian's people were predicting 54% after absentees. Now it apears they could barely get to 39% with absentees and all of the Armenians voting early.
He's got serious problems.
Predictable, the Big 3 had the money for the postal ballot mailers. Kreckorinan is guaranteed a place in the run off, too early to tell if E$$el will maintain her 2nd place, Tamar is not as secure as she looks in 3rd as her name recognition should have given her more of an advantage in the postals. Mary Benson could give Tamar a good run for best of the rest.
Another election stolen by Hacopian's shady absentee tactics.
Watch everyone, as Krekorian gets half this much at the polls today.

I learned a painful lesson earlier this year that vote by mail ballots are usually somewhat indicative of the general population vote.
These votes will be about 1/3 of the total.
Krekorian and Essel in the runoff, it looks like.
My worst nightmare.
The numbers will shift somewhat tonight, but don't expect huge shifts in percentages.
CD 2 allowed TWO carpetbaggers to steal this election.

Krekorian's 39% will drop as the count continues.
I'm staying on the Anybody But Essel bandwagon. She's the worst and has always been at the very bottom for me. Our ideals, principles and politics just don't match up. Her money is just the saddest situation in politics. The ability to buy votes.. because we already KNOW she didn't deserve or earn them.

Tamar didn't have any mailers but one, or robocalls, and those of you telling voters she should stay at LAUSD can thank yourselves for paul and chris. Neither of whom have horns, it could've been worse. But maybe there's a last- miinute rush to the polls now shown. (Did Sheftel's potheads forget to vote after all? He's barely ahead of the doggman).

The next result will be very telling. It really doesn't look very good for LA. Paul Krekorian and Chris E$$el in the run off and given a choice between those two, Paul wins. Strike one for Shallman. Hope he made a ton of money out of E$$el.

It's true that of the 3, Tamar's the only one whose percent is rising, Essel's same, Krekorian's falling. The big money two got out the early absentees. The rest of you split your votes so much, did any of you really think the others had a shot? None of the media even covered this as though it doesn't matter.
Well, the one things that obvious is that if any candidate had worked hard they could have won the race given the turnout. Instead they spent all of their time going to the forums and gossiping on the blogs. With the few people that voted, anyone, even one of the minor 7 could have won if they had walked to most of the houses in the district.
The local media has nothing about this, just about Meg Whitman. Running on being a businesswoman, like Essel but mega-big scale. Meg looks awful, flabby and out of shape for a woman with all her wealth. Besides not being photogenic, a campaign like that is physically gruelling, just ask Hillary.

James and John Thomas are right about one thing as they rehash this on air - they're deluded that she can win, but right that she messed up not getting the Republican party which endorsed her to work for her, get out the foot soldiers. Instead, her people like you on this blog who shilled for her denied that she's even a Republican until caught red-handed by the Republican endorsement.
Is it true that Paul's contributions came 80 percent from the Armenian community? That may not hold up when he needs a lot more money. On the other hand, it's no longer him vs a dozen "grassroots" candidates, the whole game of "big vs. little" is over. Now they'll have to get to issues.
As some of use tried to explain, the debates counted for nothing. This blog counted for nothing. If all the "grassroots" candidates had gotten behind one of the other 7, it wouldn't have accomplished anything. The 7 minor candidates were unable to make any kind of statement.
You can't just put your name on a ballot and expect that somehow people will know about you, believe in you, and vote for you.

Mary Benson might provide some entertainment if she overtakes Tamar, but that's unlikely.
Looks like E$$el's money talked.
So many people at every debate, except the Judy Price one she got bashed for, turned them into such a circus and confusion, so little time per candidate, that it made the paid mailers and robocalls of Essel and Paul more important than otherwise.
So now who's going to endorse whom? We saw Essel already courting them.
Watching the live election coverage leaves me with one question... is $4.99 a good price for Hidden Valley Ranch?
It's the curse of Jack Weiss for Tamar Galatzan. She's probably hunkered down in a bunker screaming obscenities at her staffers for ruining her election just like Weiss did at Canters.
It's a huge disappointment for all her supporters at the city attorney's office who were hoping to get hired as field deputies.
Galatzan will be fine. One of the frontrunners will make a deal to reimburse her in some way in return for her endorsement. The losers are the rest of the also rans (except for Mary Benson) who didn't even get enough votes to be taken seriously.
Whoever gets Tamar's endorsement wins. Unless she's too ticked off at Shallman's sliming her about the mailer, it will be Essel. But Hakopian attacked her too, so it's likely Essel. She's creeping upto 15% of the vote. Not bad with one mailer, no tv or real money. Her people should have spent more time walking the beat. Scmalzenburg will go with Higby's guy, whether or not paul wants him is another matter.
James and Mary are going to gear up for 2 years from now, coming out as Republicans to get the Republican "machine" if they can. She tried to hide her Republican designation and didn't avail herself of it which they think was a mistake.
Tamar's endorsement doesn't mean that much. The real question about who will win is who turns out the votes in the runoff. No one did that effectively this round. Normally you would think Krekorian would have a better ground campaign because he has been through a lot more of these, but you will notice Essel got more votes on election day, so maybe those types lean her way. Either way, both sides will have to be doing something different because turnout was almost nonexistent.

These results also show that none of the candidates have a lot of friends in their neighborhood. Usually the first precinct you walk is your home precinct and it's not that hard to get 300 votes from your neighbors turning out to help you (remember these are consolidated precincts) and with turnout this bad, it would have shown up if any candidate had that kind of support.
Looks like even with Mary's votes, Tamar wouldn't have been able to break the tie.
Galatzan won't endorse anyone, especially Essel, given that rampant development was her downfall through spousal association. And keep in mind that Krekorian remains an influential Sacramento legislator if he loses.
Essel is toast. The Valiant Seven mustered over 2000 votes and NONE of them will go to Essel.
