City Budget: All Hell to Break Lose this Morning
From today's LA Times:
After months of political jockeying, the Los Angeles City Council today is expected to vote on a controversial early retirement plan for city workers that, if rejected, could force layoffs of nearly 1,000 workers.
Michael Linder of KABC Radio reports that CM Bernie Parks said that the unions run the city. Wow. When did he find that out?

Pat McOsker, head of the LAFD union, was there to voice support against the city and for the unions to keep the plan as discussed in June, the 5-yr plan that even the Mayor, Eric Garcetti and other union sympathizers say is untenable in light of the city's drastically reduced circumstances.
Zine the coward was nowhere to be seen, of course. McOsker has been telling your blog's soulmate Kevin James that Zine is his man, looks to him and Trutanich to be his mouthpiece against the mayor and "liberals" on council. Not a word from Trutanich either on th $8 million awarded to two firefighters a couple weeks ago for alleged discrimination, in keeping with sucking upto McOsker for political opportunism: Is the city filing an appeal? Just eating all that money? If there's an appeal, will it be handled in-house, even though he's admitted that the office is swamped and they've continued to use the same outside lawfirms Rocky did, his claims to the contrary; and he's said he'll insist on replacing all the 50+ lawyers and their staffs Rocky let go with attrition, even though the dept's payroll budget is millions in the red NOW every month? Not a word from this hypocritical blog or the media on this, either. Can you imagine if Jack Weiss or anyone else had just sucked up an $8 million award to two people, to suck upto the head of the LAFD union? Everyone appropriately made a huge deal of Tennie Pierce's $1.5 million back when the city was more flush in cash.
One of the 2 recipients by the way is Capt. Frank Lima, who's on Pat McOsker's negotiating team.
With the liberals being the fiscally conservative ones now, things are upside down so what do these brave conservatives do? Hide. Except Smith, who at least takes the heat for his decisions head-on.

If that's Mitch, he'd have my vote. Someone fiscally responsible without partisan axes to grind, who knows what he's doing and what's feasible to promise, doesn't run on lies and soundbites even when his promises contradict themselves, to try to be all things to all people. Someone with experience who can hit the ground running, not a blank slate from nowhere with no transparency, making it easy to get away with all those lies.

Parks calls City Hall like it is, and it's a shame he's stuck there with these adolescents, far less effective than he would've been at the county level.

Parks would never get the Times' endorsement then, because calling them like you see it and being a straight shooter is always bad -- they like the ones who win popularity contests even if it means doing what's wrong, taking the easy route by voting for more spending to please some noisy constituents.
Even if nothing's in their heads. Look what they just did to Tamar.
They love the Janice Hahn type.

Parks' constituents can't stand him for being a do nothing councilman in their area. With all his connections all he does is pass special event waivers for his rich USC croonies. Parks is responsible for a lot of this financial mess because he's chair of the Budget Committee. Were they all so irresponsible they didn't see it coming or they are in denial? Does anyone know of ONE thing the city has done to help this financial mess? But tonight they will all be partying at the El Grito festivities paid for by us and a slap in the face when people are crying at public comment begging for their jobs. The nation is laughing at Los Angeles.

What happened to the increase in trash fees will pay for more police officers?
Lies, lies, lies and more lies.
