Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes gives "Monetary Thanks" to CD 2 Council Candidate, err, Assemblyman Paul Krekorian

"A simple act of professional appreciation?? Yeah Right!!"
Paul Krekorian Campaign Consultant Eric Hacopian has undertaken another "political campaign black ops" with support of Connected Attorney Stephen Kaufman.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Assemblyman "Felipe Fuentes-Handel" has picked the most particular time to offer a "$15,000 financial thanks" to fellow Assemblyman Paul Krekorian for his support during the recent budget process in Sacramento, some details from the Times story.
Using $15,000 from his state campaign committee, Fuentes bought television time in the San Fernando Valley for an ad praising the work of Krekorian, a Los Angeles Democrat, during the recent budget debate in Sacramento. The ad does not mention Krekorian’s bid for the council seat vacated by City Controller Wendy Greuel but thanks Krekorian for “protecting Valley families and local jobs during this budget crisis.” Krekorian’s campaign consultant, Eric
Hacopian, said his client was not aware of the ad until voters began calling his office to say they had seen it. One of Krekorian’s opponents, Christine Essel, issued a news release accusing Krekorian of attempting to skirt campaign finance rules, and her campaign questioned why the ad had not been filed with the city Ethics Commission.
Stephen J. Kaufman, a lawyer for Fuentes, said the assemblyman merely wanted to thank Krekorian for his role during the budget negotiations. “These ads are not being done with respect to the CD 2 race. They do not mention Assemblyman Krekorian’s candidacy and they do not reference the City Council election in any way,” Kaufman said. The ads, he continued, “do not urge the viewers to do anything, let alone urge voters to make a decision one way or the other with respect to the election.”

One can only shake their heads and observe the result of one of Hacopian's better "Black Ops" in support of a candidate.

And for you Sierra Club members, your endorsement means what to Krekorian considering Fuentes past "commitment" to preserving Sunland-Tujunga's last piece of open space, the Verdugo Hills Golf Course.

The Fuentes association may not be helpful to Krekorian with some voters in the northern reaches of the district. Fuentes wrote a proposal, which was ultimately shelved, that would have allowed MWH Development Corp. to build 229 homes on the Verdugo Hills Golf Course despite the objections of neighborhood activists and Los Angeles city officials.

Politics as usual.

These comments from the LA Times story.

** used to be the appearance of impropriety was cause for dismissal, Fuentes and Krikorian shoud resign immediatly

** What a crock? He just happens to run tv ads "thanking" the only member of the State Assembly who has an election in one week? Apparently, no other member of the Assembly deserved such thanks? What did Krekorian do that was so special and worthy of thanks in the worst budget crisis in the history of California?

Does anyone really buy this garbage? How stupid does Krekorian and Fuentes think we are?
Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but could it be do to the fact that the City's laws won't allow contributions that large, so Fuentes found a way around the law to donate $15,000.

Is there any wonder why Sacramento politicians are held in such low esteem? Shameless. I can see why he sent his lawyer to do all the talking for him. You know the old saying, "Keep your friends close and your lawyers closer."

The real questions is what do Paul and Felipe want to build after they bulldoze Verdugo Hills Golf Course? Maybe a Home Depot?

Er, Red Spit, what's with all this CD2 malarkey? Have you forgotten that it was the great CATORCE that made you infamous?

Why no mention of THIS news item??

(Or did you forget to tip the paperboy again last Xmas?)

Eastern Group Publications reports that as of last week the principality of Montebello is now CD14-EAST (even more so than ever before). Not only is former CD-14 losing campaign manager Robert Urteaga a city councilman there (and its Mayor P-T), but his former boss and one-time LA Councilman Lauro "NICK" Pacheco has been named Interim (asst.) City Administrator, so he can slide into the full-time spot when Montebello's current City Administrator retires in a couple months.

Got that? "Tricky Nicky" is back in the employ of the taxpayers.

Did Robert U. set all this up?

NAH, of course not, he says. A complete coincidence.

Get ready for numerous Montebello vacancies (current and soon-to-be created) to be filled with CD-14 related personalities.

Next we'll hear that ex-pat (read: "thrown out") Limey John Edwards has been named the Press Spokeshole for that City.

After that, ever-present 8-time loser ex-con Art Pulid-ito will no doubt be crowned GANG CZAR and part-time errand boy for Montebello. He'll immediately set about to lower the gang crime rate by funneling thousands of dollars of city revenue directly into the bank accounts of Mongols and other local gang members who will promise to ONLY kill people outside the city limits.

California lawmaker plans hearings on soda-obesity link

The California lawmaker who spearheaded a high-profile anti-obesity effort across the country's most populous state is now training his sights on sugar-sweetened drinks.

Sen. Alex Padilla, who led a campaign requiring big restaurant chains to disclose calories in meals, said on Thursday he planned to hold hearings in November on the link between soda consumption and obesity.

Um, forgive the dumb question, but is the guy Pacheco will probably replace, Montebello City Administrator Richard Torres, THE "Ricardo Torres" of AV-challenge mailer "one-night-stand" days in CD-14? Pacheco's old college buddy? Or is that just a really weird coincidence.

Maybe Urteaga had nothing to do with it, after all?

Vote for Mary Benson. She is the most qualified candidate who has no baggage!

Krekorian and Fuentes don't fool anyone. They are both political pigs! CD7 people are too swift to vote for him. If not, they become educated soon.

12:50, wasn't there a whole thread on how there were TWO Richard Torres' of the same name, one a shady character and the OTHER a well-respected lawyer -- who is ironically the one Cooley's going after with a Grand Jury for running against him and "exposing" that he (Cooley) is Republican? Claiming that's akin to exposing someone as a neo-Nazi in L A County. So Cooley.

Paul is such a phony. I'm so sure - he had NOTHING TO DO with spending us into a hole. But look! Paul saved working mothers, sick children, seniors and midget amputees during tough budget negotiations.

Of course none of these groups would've been threatened had Paul been responsible with the budget from the beginning. After all, he's part of the leadership and his party has the majority. Don't let Paul Krekorian lie to you. Never forget.

If I hear Paul Krekorian blame Schwarzenegger for the budget mess one more time I'm going to puke.

It was HIS party and HIS union special interest campaign contributors who blocked the governor's reforms.

Sure, we can fault Schwarzenegger for eventually giving up, but it was PAUL KREKORIAN'S party and PAUL KREKORIAN'S allies who sent this state off the cliff.

I question Mr. Higby's sanity for endorsing this man. Just because his staffers knock on doors doesn't make him a man of integrity, in fact this Fuentes story suggests just the opposite. Come to think of it, do his staffers really knock on doors or is that made up too?

I did so want to support Tamar. Her backbone assertive sound bites have been very impressive. But what am I do to when I see that the nest of political crap is deeper than I want to admit.

Kaufman is Fuentes lawyer and the email address on Tamar,s Ethics Commission filing is ALSO KAUFMAN!

This is the same Kaufman who pushed the term extensions for city council members, Prop R..

Time to re-think and hope the folks in Sunland Tujunga do the same. It is not too late to do the right thing.

Stephen J. Jim Newton also left "to write a book" in June of last year, after it was revealed that he had wanted to endorse Ridley-Thomas but was over-ruled by then publisher Hiller into endorsing Parks, and there was tension. In light of new revelations about Ridley-Thomas and SEIU, Hiller may have been proven right. But Newton slammed Parks for "not playing well with others," as he has anyone he doesn't endorse, even if they're right about issues. And Parks as a budget hawk may, in retrospect, have had more clout on the BOS, where it's NOT a popularity contest.

Now the publisher is Eddy Hartenstein and Newton is going to "write his book" again, though saving face with at-large work. This coming after the controversial endorsement of Essel on the heels of the controversial candidate for city attorney who's fallen into disfavor and ridicule in a remarkably short amount of time, both Shallman clients, both allegedly favored by Riordan and certain developer/ billboard interests, the PPL, etc.

I hope Newton gets to write "his book" this time.

Huh?

You don't know that the ex-City Council President who job-hopped to his current feeding at the public trough as State Senator had his chief of staff installed as 39th Assemblyman - who will attempt (barring indictment by an ongoing County DA investigation to improper control of supposed independent campaign by Cardenas, Padilla and Fuentes) a triumphal return to a bankrupt city as a morally and ethically bankrupt, corrupt Democrat city councilman?
