Saturday Morning Shorts......

"Is this what awaits Tony Villar when he returns from Iceland"
Shhhhh, don't tell any body, especially anyone from United Teachers of Los Angeles or Los Angeles Times Columnist Steve Lopez, but Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has added a new campus to his "Partnership for Los Angeles Schools".
The city's mayor is quietly taking control of a newly built high school in Boyle Heights, but the teachers union may challenge that conquest, part of a growing war between Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and United Teachers Los Angeles.
The school at issue is the $106-million Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez Learning Center, which is to open this fall. Nearly all students will come from the attendance area for Roosevelt High School, which already belongs to the mayor's Partnership for Los Angeles Schools.
The transfer of the new school, Villaraigosa's 11th campus, was approved by L.A. schools Supt. Ramon C. Cortines, according to the mayor's team, and the office of school board President Monica Garcia, a close ally of the mayor.
The way this takeover was done, or should we say attempted ??, make you wonder if political "Black Ops" specialist Eric Hacopian was consulting on this "behind the scenes" raid on LAUSD ??
Then there are the cast of characters, School Board President Monica Garcia, her Chief of Staff Luis Sanchez (co-founder of the "connected non-profit" and Community Partners administrated "Inner City Struggles"), Education Partnership CEO Marshall Tuck and of course Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
This bunch's education reforms or lack of, have meet with derision from teachers and community members and have been scornfully penned by Steve Lopez in the Los Angeles Times.
And now that this latest example of "openness and transparency" in the Mayor's education reform efforts has been exposed in today's Times article, look forward to another contentious convocation on the Mayor's education plans in Boyle Heights.
Rumors were rampant that Councilman Jose Huizar had to move his "Huevos with Huizzy" get together to Salesian High School from Roosevelt High School because of the community backlash over the Mayor's lack of results at Boyle Heights largest high school.
Other News:
** Wonder how new Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustee Member and "political hot commodity" Tina Parks voted in giving outgoing Chancellor Marshall E. Drummond a $428,750+ severance package ?
** "So a Mayor Decides to Run for Governor", and it wasn't Tony Villar. Downtown News Editor and "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, has the details on Frisco's Mayor Gavin Newsome's Downtown LA visit with his Latino friend and former Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla in tow.
** Wonder how the likes of Mayor Villaraigosa, Councilman Ed "Density for All" Reyes, Planner Mike Woo and other affordable housing advocates, really feel about Downtown Developer Geoff Palmer ?? Especially, after taking the city to court and winning a potentially, precedent ruling against the City of Los Angeles "Low Income Housing Mandates".
** Nobody on the City Council wants to be front and center on the potential "brownouts" of fire services that can go into effect on Thursday. But as the Obama Recession continues, preventing cuts in services in "all" city departments may become a forlorn hope.
** Lastly, former body builder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who portrays "Governor Kennedy Republican" in Sacramento, wants to take on the task of defusing the "Cobalt Bomb" that is public employees pension obligations. Time to dig out those 1950's backyard bomb shelters for this brewing battle between the "Kennedy Republican" and the State Employee Unions.
Your thoughts and great weekend to all!!

Checked out Essel's contributor list today.

It looks like AEG loves the Mayor's girl.

Tim Leiwike and a bunch of AEG vendors are on top of her contributor list.

I generally think you're an idiot Red Spot, but if you came up with Ed "Density for All" Reyes, I have to say that is a good one.

How come you're not talking about Zooma's meltdown on his blog this morning about you and the rest of Mayor Sam?

It's certainly an issue, and you guys shouldn't not talk about it just because you know Zooma.

I guess you're an idiot once again in my mind. F*ck you.

Chris Essel- All AEG all the time.

The last thing this city needs is another councilperson from AEG to join Wesson, Hahn and Perry in the AEG caucus on the Council.

Zuma is a nutjob who's denying that he's spent years verbally abusing elected officials at those council rants. And the stuff he's called them here and on his blog. I don't even like to reprint and give them credence but the Villaviagarosa, the Jackass Weiss (which Zine used too by the way, and at Trutanich's victory party someone got a big laugh for reminding that Zine never said his name without it) and all the shit he gave Weiss over the years.

The way he was a mouthpiece for the Recall people who fed him stuff and used him on purpose. Even some personal lawsuit allegations of a personal nature he threw out there JUST to embarrass him on Ch. 35.

I'm a Trutanich guy so it was all priceless PR for us but let's get real here. Lately the stuff he's been throwing at Garcetti, "Garpussy" and insulting his mama while he makes crazy threats to turn him over the Obama, like O would listen to HIM -- come on dudes, THAT Zuma is crying foul now?

Now that Zuma's a candidate again this time for CD2 where he's got more of a real shot in a smaller pond, this kind of meltdown makes it imposible for anyone to take him seriously. As if a hmeless guy living in a van didn't already raise issues of carpetbagging.

Yet you go read Zuma's blog? How bored are you if you go read someone's "meltdown" and then come back and post about it? Get a life. Jesus.

Chris places first in the first financial filing ending June 30th.

She raised $119,294.00. John Shallman made the statement that this shows the support Chris has in the community. He is correct but not in the way he meant. Of the money raised only $3,600.00 was from folks who live in CD2.

Watch out Chris, I have two words for you, Monica Rodriquez. Monica made the mistake of having Mr. (Prop R) Shallman run or dare I say ruin her campaign. She paid out over 90 grand to him plus all the costs for countless polls.

http://ethics.lacity.org/disclosure/campaign/search/public_search_results.cfm?showall=yes&requesttimeout=1000&requesttimeout=1000&SCHEDULE=C%2CE%2CF%2CH&rept_type=AllExp&election_id=30&cand_per_id=5659&viewtype=pf

After raising over 300 grand she only got 2,761 votes.

You seem to be a nice enough person so, look out.

At this rate you are already behind.

4:26: Chris Essel does seem to be nice despite her "liability" of having been allegedly associated with the mayor and his fundraising people, like Wetherly. Who should not all be tainted just because one of them showed up at an event and had the bad judgemnt of oversight to be listed as cohost for Weiss, who like other candidates with such a hectic schedule no doubt left where he went and with whom upto his campaign managers.

But guess what: Shallman was the campaign mgr. for Nooch who turned it into a big stink screaming Weiss would be hauled off to jail -- the kinds of nonsense Trutanich threatened the planning commissioners with and even other Councilmembers over AEG. (And since, he's been in hiding and back-pedaling.)

So he's got his candidate Essel in a pickel as far as to having to watch HER back as to where she gets funds. A certain person whose name has just been banned from this blog (if Joe B. and the rest stick to it) has a whole feature about her alleged links to AEG and downtown interests.

NOT that there's anything wrong with that either, however much jealous candidates who do not have access to such funds may claim. Except that Shallman candidate Trutanich and his BFF Zine have tarred and feathered AEG in the media and tried to paint them out as guilty of criminal activity, though of course they offered no proof. So Shallman is caught in his own web of deceit already.

4:11: any candidate's blog must be taken as public record and intended as such - the surest indicator of the candidate's views, personality and what s/he'd so. You honestly can question that for ANYONE who is running for any office, or is even a union spokesman? As are all public appearances at public comment. Just ask phil j.

Chris Essel is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life.

She is pretty, and in her case, the beauty goes all the way through to her soul.

And, she is smart and experienced.

We will be lucky to have her represent us in CD2 should she win this election.

Tamar is also pretty but, she is driven. She needs to lighten up a bit. And, she does have name recogniiton. This is a quick election, so maybe it will work for her. We could do a lot worse than Tamar as our Councilmember.

Same with Paul. He is a nice guy, not nearly as pretty as either of the ladies, though. And, he has the Burbank and Sacramento baggage to carry. But, he also has name recognition. And, in a district that has some strong Armenian sectors, having the "ian" at the end of his name can be a plus.

The election is in aobut three weeks. Stay tuned.

Oh, I didn't mention a certain person who is now off limits on this blog and I want to respect that policy and applaud it.

But, for the record, I wouldn't have mentioned him anyway. Doesn't figure to me.

It's incredible. The people of Los Angeles are morons. Everyone knows why LAUSD schools under perform. It's clearly because most students, the majority, are Mexicans and speak English as a second language. The kids have not been immersed in American culture and language to the extent that they need.

LOOK AT THE PERCENTAGE OF HISPANICS AT MARK TWAIN MIDDLE SCHOOl.
http://projects.latimes.com/schools/school/los-angeles/mark-twain-middle/
Latino 81.1%

THESE KIDS ARE UNDOUBTEDLY MOSTLY MEXICAN CITIZENS

Until you morons recognize the truth you will always be fumbling around and throwing more money at an elusive problem.

THE ANSWER IS TO TREAT THE KIDS AS MEXICANS AND TO ALLOW VILLARAIGOSA TO IMPLEMENT THE COMPUTERIZED, MEXICAN CURRICULUM THAT HE ORIGINALLY INTENDED.

There is no racial diversity in LAUSD Middle and High Schools, for the most part. Any claims to the contrary is a farce. The kids are predominately Latino, and probably of Mexican descent.

If the majority of kids are Latino, and they wish to learn to be Mexicans, well then let them learn the Mexican National curriculum, in Spanish.

This is undoubtedly the Villaraigosa plan. Let him implement it and see how well it works.

Are you Los Angeles morons getting it, yet. MECHA Mayor Villaraigosa's next step is to sweep out any, or the majority of, non-Spanish speaking teacher out of "his" schools. AN EARLY RETIREMENT PLAN FOR NON-SPEAKING TEACHERS WILL APPEAR, not the likes have been seen since THE LAST LA CITY EARLY RETIREMENT PLAN.

He will use the guise of the non-performing teachers ouster, which of course, will be a lie. If teachers are to teach in Spanish, then any non-Spanish teacher will be non-performing.

LAUSD needs to stop all the Spanish bullshit and teach these illegal kids ENGLISH. They will never assimilate into the real world. Huizar and Antonio want to hold these kids back and make them believe Spanish is the way. There is a big community meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm at Roosevelt with the radical SPANISH assholes in Boyle Heights, Inner City Struggle, Dolores Mission, El Centro Ayuda, Homeboy, and more to discuss the next 10 yr plan of Boyle Heights trying to get stimulus money. Obama's enforcement of immigration is more successful we are so glad. Too bad a rep couldn't be at this Mecha meeting.

Harvey Englander PR shady clients Meruelo-Maddox, City of Los Angeles and Police Protective League (PPL).Big conflict of interest because Harvey has donated money to Cardenas, Zine, Weiss, Garcetti, Villaraigosa, Reyes, Parks, Delgadillo, Perry, Huizar, Rosendahl. Keep up with me here!!!! Mitch Englander is the nephew of Harvey. Mitch is the Chief of Staff to GREIG SMITH. The Police union PPL has given tons of money to city council members including Smith and more recently Paul Koretz. Wait for PPL (police union) to give to Chris Essel. The PPL (police union) promoted a free hot dog event hosted by Greig Smith on Thursday. FRIDAY SMITH went after Bratton on the retired cop issue that is being falsely stated in media Chief cedes. Is it any wonder officers hate their own union and are talking about going with teamsters. They are giving their own union a no vote of confidence. PPL does more for council members then their own officers.

I haven't read up on whether poster is correct about the Mayor's schools being all proposed for Spanish-only teaching based on the Mexican gov't's computerized curriculum.

If it;s true that those not fluent or willing to teach all in Spanish will be let go -- fired or moved to other schools, and if moved, what if they're moved far from home? -- that obviously sucks. UTLA would have a legit grievance there. And what about the students, even if it's just 10% or 5% or just a few students, who do not speak or want to speak all in Spanish because we're in AMERICA? That would be a civil violation.

However on the other hand, with 1/2 the immigrant kids dropping out and being a huge drain on our resources, often because their own parents are illiterate even in Spanish in their home countries, I've heard that the Mexican government's program is actually more effective in getting them literate.

Their middle and upper class students even learn English and usually become bilingual, speask Engish far better than the immigrants we get here. If you go to Mexico, you see that in fact these classes also focus on EUROPEAN manners, all the stuff the MeCHA Mexicans here hate.

Will they make that transition part of the curriculum/ what about American vs. Mexican history, civics, OUR literary legacy etc.?
