Krekorian for CD2

Though I am not a voter in CD2 (I live in LaBongland) I am putting my support behind Assemblyman Paul Krekorian for CD2.

With all due respect to Mr. Krekorian as well as the other candidates in the race, he was not my first choice. Ultimately I'd like to see a talented outsider who falls into the ready for prime time category.  Louis Pugliese would have fit this bill to the T.

With Pugliese out of the race, the logical choice at this point is Krekorian.  Though he's served in the Assembly and is very much part of the liberal Democratic elite in Los Angeles, Krekorian didn't come up through the usual machine ranks and, as a former elected official in a succesful city like Burbank, might have some ideas that are different from the status quo.

Though some will charge Krekorian, who lived in Burbank until very recently, with carpetbagging, that charge is a tad hollow.  Krekorian currently represents much of the same area as CD2 in the Assembly and grew up in the district, where his family once owned a business.  We can't say the same for opponent Christine Essel who apparently doesn't even know her address.

There are some fine candidates in the race including our old friend Zuma Dogg (who really is better suited for CD11) but at this stage none of these candidates can achieve the momentum needed to overcome in a compacted and odd election cycle like this.  I must also mention candidate Tamar Galatzan who has no business running for this seat less than two years into her term as a school board member.  Lets hope her constituents rise up in the next election and oust this unqualified and opportunitistic showboater who only won by running against an unpopular and dying incumbent.

Krekorian is indeed an unabashed liberal and I would disagree with him on many points.  However the City Council is a non-partisan position.  Krekorian has shown he has the chops to be an effective legislator.  He is also known for excellent constituent service, something vital for a District that stretches from tony Ventura Boulevard to the highlands of Sunland-Tujunga.  CD2's best choice at this time is Paul Krekorian.

Oh, oh, Higby's back and mentions Zuma Dogg as a leading or viable candidate before endorsing Krekorian. Bad association for me. And weren't we supposed to avoid his name to not let every conversation deteriorate into all about this disruptive individual? Plus Higby's saying Krekorian is not carpetbagging but Essel moving over the hill a mile is? That address thing is logical when she's got that house on the market -- frnakly it takes a huge leap of faith to do that, with no certainty she'll be elected, while all Krekorian is doing is renting.

And the jabs at Tamar are nonsense, Krekorian is doing the same thing and worse, leaving his Assembly seat.

I'm not choosing between these 3 but lack of logical argument for and against needs a reply, Higby.

When you see this type of statement on a comment here on Mayor Sam: "I'm not choosing between these 3" that's a tipoff that it's from someone we all know and love who works for someone we all know and don't love.

So that wasn't you who wrote in support of Krekorian? You almost lost me forever as a fan of Mayor Sam. By the way, his district only covers a small portion of District Two. Also, we do have a choice other than the three career politicians mentioned. Don't let the media decide who should be the new CD 2 rep. Let the members of CD2 decide. Everyone else take a walk, including Paramount, Sony, AV and the Unions, etc.

Dear John Shalman,
I see that your candidate, Chirstine Essel took a maximum $500 from Skaden Arps. Ooops, maybe you didn't see this:

New York based Entrust Capital co-founded by Gregg S. Hymowitz (a former vice-president at Goldman, Sachs & Co. and previously an attorney with Skadden Arps) is implicated in the widening New York Pension corruption scandal.

More on Skadden Arps. That's only the tip of the iceberg. Don't sink the ship.

Anyway the "voters" will decide. That's what an election is for.

Frank Sheftel is already going after a certain grassroots candidate in public by saying, "Not someone who is taking an opportunity to pump themselves. That's not public service, it's self-serving."

Uh oh...Frank Sheftel is able to read other candidates minds and knows that other people's efforts...people who ACTUALLY have been showing up and doing stuff BEFORE the paycheck was offered...are "self-serving." Maybe that's because Mr. Sheftel cannot understand how someone could be motivated by something other than money.

Why doesn't Mr. Sheftel talk about some issues instead of what Middle School and High School he went to.

Just because you went to high school in the area doesn't mean you know a thing about the inner workings of city hall or anything at all about the agenda items that shape the district.

OK, let me explain it because everyone seems so perplexed. Higby backs Krekorian because Higby got bought off by Eric Hacopian. That is why Eric Hacopian gets great coverage here. Eric also posts here. A lot. All these lame hits on Chris Essel? You can tell his writing style.

Higby, you ought to be ashamed. Krekorian is putting a bill through the Legislature that would allow campaigns to handle absentee ballots. Hacopian has been investigated for shenanigans involving absentee ballots several times.

Higby claims to be a Libertarian and claims to be anti-establishment, yet he endorses a machine that wants to perpetuate the current incumbent status quo.

Honestly Higby, can you sink any lower?

Ha ha! First they accuse me of being John Shallman (who was very appreciative of my work on behalf of Carmen Trutanich) and now I'm getting paid off by Hacopian. If that's true Hacopian, where's the check? Anyway, no matter, all these hacks and candidates anonyblogging here just adds to my clickety-clicks. ;)

Well, Phil, it's like this. At this time I think Paul is the best choice. I don't like his politics but I've met the man a few times and I think he's a decent person. I also know some members of his staff and they are not the usual dunderheads. I would have loved to see someone like Dave Hernandez or Louie P or Abby Diamond run. That didn't happen.

The one thing I think the District needs is decent constituent service and I believe Krekorian - way more than Essel or Tamar - will do that. Essel will need to use Gail Goldberg's GPS to find her way around the District; at least Paul grew up here.

Oh yeah, and Higby's quote, "Krekorian doesn't come in with the usual machine ranks" is just laughable. Yes, he might not be part of the downtown machine, but he is part of a machine with far more longterm dire consequences. It is the "vote for me because I am the right ethnicity" machine. By 2020, So Cal will be so polarized, we'll have left-handed Korean-Muslim lesbian districts.

Krekorian's machine is an ethnically polarized, racial politics that really ought to be put to bed.

Post 10:26 am is Eric Hacopian himself. You gotta change writing style every once in a while, Eric.

Someone must have told you to tie Chris Essel to the Mayor, even though Krekorian's politics are much closer to Antonio's, and even though Krekorian is part of the same racialist ethnic machine politics that plague places from East LA to Israel.

Apart from her jumping ship as soon as a better political opportunity presents itself, I find her dipping into taxpayer funds disturbing. Very poor moral compass.

Paul Krekorian is not doing the same thing at all. Tamar is a civil servant, Krekorian is an elected official.

Not sure where you got that Krekorian grew up in CD2. I heard him say Reseda.

No proof of his constituent service with the City that he claims numbers for. What were those services? No proof or knowledge of the City of L.A. and CD2's issues. When did he help us out and with what issues?

The CD2 position is a hard job. Night and day.

What can any of them do within a year in office? Won't be much I project due to "no budget", cut back of Fire Dept. services, staff and other cuts. We have to start this all over again in a few months. There's just no way any of them can get anything done or accomplished within that time. You can bet that when this election is over, more fundraising will begin.

I smell the strength of a grassroots candidate.

I wasnt going to vote for Mary, but I REALLY want a grassroots Council member representing me. My ticket is going for her.
