Does Tamar Want to Raise Your Taxes?
When you're an elected official seeking to upgrade your job and salary by running for another position it probably doesn't help that the current body you serve on is going to raise taxes in the middle of your campaign.
That's the word that came out this weekend while many of you were chowing down on Watermelon; that the Los Angeles Unified School District - whose boad CD2 candidate Tamar Galatzan serves on - wants to raise your taxes to pay off their massive debts due to their flagrant drunken sailor like overspending.
A little known provision of recent bonded indebtedness passed by voters in the past gives the District the right to raise property taxes by about a third on hundreds of thousands of property owners throughout LA.
So money you might put towards a family purchase, new clothes for your kids or maybe even food on the table goes to Tamar and her downtown cronies. "The liability on individual property owners will go up at precisely the time when property owners can least afford it," Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association told the LA Times.
So are the good homeowners of CD2 going to like a property tax increase shoved down their throats? Sounds like Tamar has some 'splanin' to do.

This is actually one of ten things about Tamar Galatzan from her campaign email blast.
"Loves to bake cookies, cupcakes, and brownies, but can't roll out pie crust if her life depended on it."
There are some serious challenges facing the city and the district. Don't insult us with that cutesy-folksie stuff. This isn't Mayberry and the voters are not Goober and Floyd.

I'm supporting Tamar Galatzan because only a woman knows how to roll out the dough! Its high time we had a woman on the City Council! The men don't know everything! Vote for Tamar! You will go far!

What a typically irresponsible thing to say, tht the LAUSD money would go to her "downtown cronies." LAUSD has a huge shortfall because they're being stiffed by the state. It sucks that they want to raise our taxes and can do that if revenue falls below a certain amount from the state, but it's hardly Tamar's fault. She's on the outs with Antonio for opposing some projects like the building of more schools, instead of seeking to convert underutilized space into charters, and when she opposed healthcare benefits to p/t cafeteria workers arguing the money should go to kids and teachers, he shunned her. That's why he's not helping her raise any momey.
It takes a lot of guts to stand upto him even knowing he's got the friends with money, but you wouldn't do a fair or decent thing on this blog no matter what. You attack people for being allied with Antonio, attack them if they're not.
You're for that hack and carpetbagge krekorian.

Well Miss Bea, you'll have to take back your endorsement because Ms. Galatzan-Huffman cannot roll out the dough if her life depended on it. Those were her own words.

3:17, I don't think there is a single "Betty Crocker woman" (or Aunt Bea if you will) in all of S-T, LVT, SH! If you find one, show me. I wanna take a picture.

We need a Mayor like Mayberry's Mayor Stoner (the angry one always upset with Andy) in LA!
And lets fill up the Clowncil with Gomer, Goober, Aunt Bea, Miss Ellie, Opie, Floyd, Howard and Miss Clara.
AND Ernest T. Bass for City Attorney!

Are you bashing Tamar because you want Krekorian to win?
Yeah... his experience in Sacramento has proven that he's a real penny-pincher.
That video I posted on Mayor Sam explains Krekorian with his own words.
No fee is too high, no tax is too high.....
Conservatives usually become violently ill after watching that video.

I'm bashing Tamar because LAUSD is a basketcase. I know you think she's cute Phil and so do I but that ain't enough to elect her!

Tamar is cute?
You guys (Phil and Higby) really need to get out more.

Higby...please!
I don't have any physical attraction whatsoever to any of the candidates in this race. I find some of them repulsive because of their political ideologies. I'm a Conservative...I don't vote for people because they are "cute".
However, I am trying to contact all the CD 2 candidates to do that idea we talked about...of the Mayor Sam profile for each one of them.
Already emailed Paul, Christine, Tamar and Mary.
I talked to Frank and Zuma about it before.
Trying to find contact info on the others....

Tamar is on the LAUSD School Board
but she has not created the Mess that our schools are in. Her vote will be closely watched not only over this issue, but the Vote for School Choice on Aug. 25th.

Phil, FYI you got a boatload of responses from Wacko Walter's Loon but she's not allowed here so she's been banned. Including her alter egos Don Quixote, Retarded Superstar and Dr. Demming.

Don't blame Tamar for the increase in your property tax bill caused by the LAUSD school building bond. It's time you people took responsibility for running the LAUSD properly, and if that means a little sacrifice, too bad. We all have to sacrifice a little to make things better. Frankly, it's thanks to Tamar and other enlightened officials who know how to get things done that our kids are getting a nicer learning environment.
In her two years on the School Board, Tamar has fought to raise standards at LAUSD, and this minor adjustment to homeowners' tax bill is a small price to pay for the superior school buildings that are being built to teach our kids.
Tamar has a long track record of making hard choices and decisions that are not popular with special interest groups like homeowners because she, like a handful of other enlightened officials, knows only too well that democracy is about all citizens; homeowners, renters and yes, the disenfranchised guest workers who clean our homes, tend to our kids, and beautify our yards.
So take a valium and get over it. Tamar knows this is not a popular choice, but she represents all citizens and improving our schools is a fundamental right that she fights for every day.

Two years is not a long track record.

9:12, you are the worst argument FOR Tamar possible. It's not a "minor adjustment to homeowners tax bill," you nitwit -- it's adding about $500 per $700,000 assessed value which is not that much for a house, so many will pay an extra $750/ year. AND while LAUSD has the most expensive building program in the country, ALL the big new expensive schools are going to the "people who clean your houses," mostly illegals and anchor babies, schools like Belmont (not her fault it was built on site of a toxic waste dump, that was long before she arrived), Contreras, Broad Performing Arts, the Ambassador hotel site and several others. The Times even quoted someone from LAUSD saying that this was intentional as a "restitution" for past decades where Mexicans didn't get their fair share decades ago.
NONE of the new schools are on the westside where taxes are highest -- it's this kind of myopia that hurt Antonio's alleged buddy Jack Weiss by association.
The reason I DO think Tamar is worth considering is that she is NOT the worst on the School Board, in fact, she's one of the most fiscally conservative. Even more than NON "Antonio" candidate Julie Korenstein - Tamar has opposed her and Monica Garcia, Yolie Flores and I think another one who favor magnets instead of charters because they allege charters are weighted toward the middle class. NOT true, but even if it were, it's way overdue to create decent kids for the taxpaying minority. The ones who are going to be hit with another "minor - ha - property tax adjustment" to educate the many kids of illegals.
Right now, most middle class and virtually all wealthy except in a few pockets like Woodland Hills go to private schools by middle school if not elementary. They would often rather NOT in this economic time, and many of us WISH our kids could have a neighborhood school instead of having to drive them across town.
Get your talking points straight if you don't want to bury your candidate. You must be someone on loan from Antonio's own campaign.

Phil, she's a serious nutcase. Stay away. She used to love Michael before she hated him. She'll turn on you in a heartbeat. Stay away from her c-c-c-crazy self. No lie.
Email her off of Mayor Sam and you'll see soon enough. Actually, you'll like her at first. It's hard to pick out the loon for awhile. Then she flips. She's a professional blogger/litigious petitioner. She makes a living off of suing people. Many of them are from other blogs. Or public officials who have sexually "harrassed" her. She thinks she is god's gift to men. Run.
Stay far far away.

1143 = Walter Moore or the rest of the anti undocumented residents crowd.
Tamar is the only candidate who is willing to take a stand and do the right thing, and if it means a little sacrifice that's fine with me. I don't have a home, I rent, but I know the increased property taxes will raise my rent a little and I don't mind.
Even though I don't have kids, I am glad that kids are getting a better education thanks to Tamar. She really is what CD2 needs because she will stand up to the racists who blame poor workers for a financial crisis that hurts everyone.
In these difficult times I am glad that there are people like Tamar who support the workers who will do jobs at prices we can afford, and their kids deserve the best education that we can give them so that they can become better people.
Tamar is also an environmentalist and will make the community better for everyone, not just a bunch of bitter republican homeowners clinging to their bibles and pistols.

What is wrong with holding onto your bible and your pistol? You don't have to be a republican to do that either.

I want to know if Galatzan voted for or against the tax hike-- it doesn't kick in automatically, the LAUSD school board HAD to vote to set it in motion. Building more day-care centers/feeding troughs for anchor babies and gangbangers is not my idea of well-placed tax dollars. Go ahead, call me a racist-- that predictable battlecry of all leftists who have no valid counter to my point.
Michael Higby said:
Hey Rita heard you on KJ - great job as always!
Do you think that Tamar was for the tax increase before she was against it?
mary whoopee said:
Thanks, Michael! And Tamar was DEFINATELY in support of this heinous bond measure-- she was quoted as saying she supported it "...because we need the money for upgrading our schools and updating computer technology.." That's not the exact quote but you can find her exact words on The Foothills Forum website, the prop. tax thread. Did you hear Tamar on Doug's show this A.M. in the 8'clock hour? Why didn't he have the balls to ask her how she voted as compared to the rest of the pro-La Raza commies on the school board?? All I can say is, AARRGGHH!!

I doubt most candidates don't want to raise taxes per se. The problem with politicians is that they all have these harebrained ideas and think that money comes from the money fairy - especially Krekorian.
We probably would be all right if the state didn't just take the money.
Now as far as Krekorian goes - There is a serious spender. That guy loves to spend spend spend.
