Breaking News from the Ethics Commission on CD-2 and 2005 Mayoral Race
"The political act of carpetbagging is not only claiming residency within political boundries but also how much outside money you pack within your carpetbags".
The latest monetary reports from the respective CD-2 candidates were due yesterday and here are the numbers as of this afternoon.
Chris Essel: $198,299.69, Cash on hand $76,869.68
Paul Krekorian: $96,891, Cash on hand $77,305.68
Tamar Galatzan : $46,151, Cash on hand $44,590.56
The other seven candidates combine for less than $10,000. Here some notes on the contributions to the "Big Three".
Chris Essel, special interest money galore from downtown and entertainment sources.
Paul Krekorian, has tapped into the monetary resources of the Armenian Community, unions, and Sacramento politicos.
Tamar Galatzan, gave her campaign a $25,000 loan, plus donations from women in education.
Conventional wisdom would dictate that the candidates with the most money, wins on election day. But if one looks at the level of expenditures in the Essel Campaign and compares it to the level of "positive buzz" or lack of, then one can surmise that the candidate who gets out the "troops", will be in the runoff.
From Ethics Commission Press Release,
Probable cause exists to believe that Plumbers Local No. 78 PAC violated City law by accepting nine contributions in the 2005 Primary municipal election in excess of the $500 limit established by the Los Angeles City Charter, according to a public Accusation issued today by Los Angeles City Ethics Commission Executive Director, LeeAnn Pelham. The Accusation charges that Plumbers Local No. 78 PAC, a non-candidate controlled committee that raised funds and made an independent expenditure to oppose then mayoral candidate Robert Hertzberg during the City’s 2005 Primary, violated Charter Section 470(c)(5) and LAMC Section 49.7.24 by accepting contributions in excess of allowable limits. In addition, the Accusation charges nine other committees with making contributions to Plumbers Local No. 78 PAC in excess of limits established in Charter Section 470(c)(5).
Question is whether they were working for then Mayor James Hahn or current Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ??

PK has a huge unpaid debt while Essel has a big media buy that, based on what's on ethics, isn't out in the field yet.
Very bad report for PK - he needed Tamar to stay viable to potentially keep Essel out of the runoff.

How much for Schmaltzenburger?
I tried to give hmi $500 through PayPal, but, no Schmaltzenberger was listed.

what does chris essel have to show for $120,000 being spent? She hasnt event done one mail piece!
Krekorian has more cash on hand and outraised essel for the period.
this is a great report for krekorian.
tamar will be viable, its just gonna take her a while. if she loans her self anymore money, the caps get busted and its a free for all.
essel is not in good shape...

The Young Dems will put in a lot of elbow grease for Tamar: phone calls, showing up at debates if asked, and helping out in the campaign office.
Seems Essel has already spent half of her money, is counting on the $45,000 media buy to come.

You gotta look at the actual reports. PK only has that cash on hand because he has 40K+ in unpaid debt. His "real" cash on hand is about 35K. Essel's "real" cash on hand is 120K.

Worrying about money is out of sync with the fact that a small percent of people vote, and they tend to be conservatives, homeowners and older. And cynical of City Hall.

Essel will blow them both out; Paul will be lucky to be in a runoff with Chris.
He is unable to raise serious money and that will cost him the last week when the mailers and phones and media buys come through.
Chris can win this one in the primary.

Again, what did Chris spend $120,000 on? That notebook she was reading from at the debate?

My thoughts? Obviously they are that downtown developers and lobbyists want Chris Essel but the People don't since she can't seem to get an endorsement.

Has anyone ever mentioned that Tony V. carpet-bagged into CD14 in order to run for City Council in 2003.
He did!

Maybe Chris needed a new "campaign" wardrobe, like Sarah Palin.
(Although SP made her's look GOOD!)

Sarah Krekorian should finish the job he was elected for

5:14 couldn't be less funny if you had put thought into it.

4:23
Essel can't buy love in CD 2.

Essel is being taken to the cleaners by her handlers.
To have spent 120,000 without having a mail or field program is a recipe for pissing the race away.

Prediction: Essel will waste more money than Tamar will raise.
In all seriousness, Tamar can be competitive at half of Essel's money.
Anonymous said:
Its Krekorian in a walk, by wasting so much money Essel fumbled any chance of catching up with Krekorian.

Who will raise more money - Tamar Galatzan or Sheftel????

Tamar and her squeaky voice will not be in the runoff.
There may not be a runoff.
When Mayor Villaraigosa "carpet bagged" into CD 14 (as a previous poster wrote), he won in the primary against an incumbent Councilman with 68% of the vote.
Krekorian appears to voters like the "incumbent" even though he is isn't.
Voters want to "throw out the bums", and don't care where the "bums" are right now.
An incumbent Assemblyman will do just fine to take the hit.
Back to Sacramento Paul. How does it feel to replace a homeless wastrel as the object of Higby's affection?

Maybe if Antonio V would endorse Essel, it would put her out of her misery... she would lose for sure. Right Jack?

8:38 = zuma dogg

What is 3:28 smoking? Tamar and Paul are done. Put a fork in 'em.
Paul has $35k left after he pays his debts and Tamar barely raised $20k. She can't legally loan herself any more money because she accepted matching funds.
Spin on PK boys. Blogging will be the only thing you can afford to do.

Tamar FTW!

It just seems to me that these candidates seem to be able to spend other people's money with not so visible results. It seems we just might get what we all will have to pay for.

Go Zuma Dogg for CD 2. He got more votes in the mayor's race in 2005 then city councilmember Ed Reyes.

Who will raise more money, Zooma or Tamar?
Zooma, why don't YOU loan your campaign $25,000 you made from your successful radio career?
Money talks, and.........
(By the way, if ever single resident of CD2 who watched Channel 35 voted for you, you'd still come in last.)

FTW, indeed.
How about, FTRO? MOre achievable, maybe.
She needs money and a makeover, otherwise, she's a great thrid place finisher.
Anonymous said:
OK, I tried giving Shmuckenstein some money on PayPal and couldn't find him.
Now what?
How about Schmuckensburg?

It sure is nice that Zuma doesn't have WiFi right now!
Nice and quiet here on a blog that he normally bullies and abuses.
Anonymous said:
No, 11:29, YOU are the one who bullies and abuses, even when your victim is not present. That you try to get others to shun your victim is "relational agression"- look it up- it betrays your gender.
Anonymous said:
Well, it WAS nice and relatively quiet.
