Watermelons and Carpetbaggers
Looks like Sunland-Tujunga experienced something completely new today. At their Watermelon Festival, the residents were overrun by a swarm of carpetbagging politicians. Some locals claimed the politicians were as thick as a swarm of flies. Others claimed that the flies were less bothersome.
Carpetbagging politician Paul Krekorian was given a tour of CD 2 and the Watermelon Festival by Mayor Sam blogger Joe B. The Higby-endorsed Burbank Democrat seemed to be adjusting well to his new surroundings.
On his Facebook page, Joe B. also claims to have given a tour and directions to Tamar Galatzan. Unfortunately, Joe B. was not as generous to the GPS-challenged Christine Essel, who was one of the last candidates to arrive.
Savvy Mayor Sam readers are well aware that Essel has a problem with directions and addresses.
Others spotted seeking votes were Michael McCue and local businessman Frank Sheftel. Sheftel said he was happy to meet so many CD 2 voters today.
David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg says he was looking forward to meeting everyone - including the LA Parent Union - but couldn't make it there today. "I hope people aren't voting for City Council based on who shows up for the Watermelon Festival or not." If you missed Zuma Dogg and want to know his policies and issues, you can check his blog for all his positions over the last three years. He said hopefully he will be there Sunday. He also said he will be on Kevin James radio show on AM 870 on Monday at 9:30 p.m.

Unless zuma dogg was sick in bed with the flu or in the hospital or a relative died, there is no excuse for missing this type of event.
For a man who bragged just the other day about having a campaign manager and volunteers, he sure isn't in control of his campaign or appearances.
Do some real reporting Phil and tell us WHY he wasn't there. You got the information that he wanted to be there. But you didn't tell us WHY he wasn't there.

Was zd at some other event today?

Yeah, Zooma ran out of gas and didn't have the money to buy more so he bagged it. No bus fare either.
But, when he is elected to the Council he will come and eat all the watermelons anyone will buy for him.

I didn't know Chris or Frank or Michael were coming, or I would've been more than happy to introduce them to everyone. BTW, Chris knows how to find our town just fine. If you're going to attack the candidates, do so on the issues.
And aren't you from Wisconsin Phil?

Joe,
Yes, I'm from Green Bay , but I moved to LA in 1993. My first address here in LA was on Burbank Blvd in the Valley.
Can I run for CD 2 now...??

Phil, Contrary to your story, I did not give Tamar a "tour" today I just introduced her to some locals at the WF. I also did not give Paul a tour of CD2,only a portion of S-T. Please check your facts before making your posts. Thanks.

The Doll Family had a wonderful time at the Watermelon Festival and the hospitality of the residents of Sunland-Tujunga is always so warm and welcoming. Nice to speak with the amazing Lydia Grant and Nina Royal. Saw Tamar, decided not to say hello; she was with her kids and I didn't want to harsh her Mommy buzz.
I'm a Mommy, too, so I try to be respectful when the ladies are wearing their Mommy hats when out with the kidlets. Hope her kids enjoyed the festival as much as mine did! Thanks S-T for the great time!

Incidentally when I say Zuma Dogg was campaigning he was distributing handbills. He gave me one. The crowds were enjoying his pitch.

If you can't show up here, you're going nowhere.

Phil, I am completely surprised that you've been here since 1993!
I won't harp on the issue, but after nearly 17 years here, why aren't you busy with your career or running a business of some kind? You're obvious a personable, if not all that bright, so it's perplexing that you don't have a long running career at this point.
Did you have one and just decide to switch things up, or are you a victim of a layoff or something? What is your story? Given your popularity on this blog, and your voluminous contributions, I think there are many who'd like to know your deal.

The defeat of Home Depot was critical from a zoning perspective but it created a monster in Sunland-Tujunga. Most voters could care less who goes to a stupid watermelon festival. This is not Ohio.

There's a monster in S-T? Oh no, run for the hills! What on earth are you talking about?

You are more pathetic than Saltsburg, and that is going some.

How far is this Sunland from downtown Los Angeles? Just curious!!
Why in the hell would the PPL police union be honoring Trutanich when he's only been in office for 3 weeks and Eric Garcetti? This is going to make Zuma very unhappy. What has Garcetti done? The PPL police union is sticking its nose too much in politics these days instead of taking care of their cops.
Los Angeles Police Protective League (PPL) The Board of Directors has announced the 2009 honorees:
Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen ‘Nuch’ Trutanich;
President of the L.A. City Council, Eric Garcetti;
CBS 2 Sports Director Jim Hill;
Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy Harvey C. Barnum, Jr.;
Castulo de la Rocha, Chairman of AltaMed Health Services;

Has anyone noticed the irony of zuma dogg not being able to tweet or post ever since he moved into his hillside abode?
I like reading his posts whether or not I agree with the given subject. I think many people were glad to see him get off of the streets, since "noone" deserves to be homeless. But it's ironic that his getting off of the street has silenced him because he cannot get wifi up there.

When will Paul and Tamar start their campaigns for Mayor? That job should be opening up soon and since they never keep their elected posts very long, perhaps they should start early planning to make the leap.
Also, what will it cost the city or state in the event either of them get elected and a special election is required to fill their seats? Just asking.......

Mayor Sam, I checked out Kevin Roderick's bio on his blog, and he seems to have buried the Pulitzer by writing "He shared in two Pulitzer Prizes awarded for staff coverage of the Rodney King riots and the Northridge earthquake."
It's about half-way down, amid lots of solo credits for books and other things he's done in the media.
Maybe it's me, but it doesn't seem like he's claiming to have won the Pulitzer on his own and you've been claiming. It sounds downright honest to me, and makes me question your motives.
So enlighten us please. What books have YOU published? Have you ever worked for any major newspapers?
Describing you as "bitter" is probably not accurate, but you definitely come across as petty and jealous. Let others do their things, and you do your own. When you figure out what you actually CAN do, let us know. But kill the petty and jealous behavior.
I hope it is within your petty and jealous rules for me to say this.

I don't know what happened to Zuma yesterday but I had a great time. Had enough watermelon for the weekend though, hope the rest of you enjoy. But about his not having WiFi or posting out of his free pad, reminds me of the saying, keep your friends close, your enemies closer.
Who could be interested in having him not post, now that everyone knows he's got enough goods on Tru to blast the lid off of that scam.
Funny how this also coincides with Tru becoming city attorney and all of a sudden, Zine and Garcetti are clamping down on public comment for its offensive nature and personal attacks, just as those are a lot LESS flagrant than they've been for the past years?
Who's got an interest in throwing Zuma dogg a few bucks, a crash pad and shutting him up? Look out for trucks crossing the road, Zuma.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Thanks for making my day with that hilariously nutty/wacky comment. I hope you are a paid political operative, because otherwise, I think a certain someone is taking himself a little too seriously and campaign ass-kissing season is going to his head. (People are telling me this, at least, so you better check yourself, Mr. "for missing this type of event."
I showed up when it counts over the past three years and I didn't see any of those phony chumps there. So are you going to chose your councilmember based on who makes it to the weekend festival to kiss your ass during a campaing.
Look at how much time I have spent over the past three years immersed in the community speaking with people in person, on the phone and at meetings.
I don't have to pretend to kiss your ass now during a campaign as one of the mayor's candidates.
To me, campaign season doesn't involve anything much different that what I do eveyday anyway, with the exception of hitting a forum or festival when I can.
So I've kinda proven I kinda ENJOY listening to people and their issues, and I think it's been proven (for good or for bad) that ZD will end up showing up at city hall for the council meeting and shout at council about it, the way you wish YOU could shout at them over the issue, if you didn't have to work or watch your kids.
So if after all of that, I couldn't get out to the watermelon festival, all I can say is I hope the past three years of what I have ACTUALLY DONE, ON MY OWN TIME is what matters more than the phony machine candidates who are kissing your ass now, but you know will be staying on the other side of the rope the second they are sworn in.
I SERIOUSLY CANNOT BELIVE HOW NAIVE AND STAR STRUCK A FEW OF YOU ARE. Not all of you, because I have been hearing reports on how full of "s" you think some of these machine candidates are.
BUT, some people out there in S-T let campaign season go to their head and get suckered by the political schmooze.
In the radio biz, it's the same thing. There were always some of the wannabe program directors you could "get to" if you suckered them with phoniness and telling them how influential they are, and how we want your feedback and how we need you to show us the ropes around here. And of course they are laughing at you behind your back.

So Phil, are you going on the record that you're well along the way to those 240,000 verifiable signatures, and therefore, you're going to turn in about 260,000?
That's great!
Look, this is why people think you're foolish. If Antonio is indicted, or gets caught up in another scandal, or otherwise leaves office, it won't be because of any effort that you've made.
Tell us how many of those 2400 VOLUNTEERS you said you'd get to average 100 signatures each?
Every time someone here tries to stand up for you, you make a bigger embarrassment of yourself. Learn to recognize help and take it in. Matt was giving you a chance to get off the hook and you blow it again.

Let me explain to you a few things so people can stop their jibber-jabber about the recall.
A recall action against the Mayor cannot be legally filed until he has been in office for 90 days/3 months. That puts the first recall filing date possible at October 1st! Nothing can happen until then.
The Mayor has to be given legal notice that a recall action is being filed against him. This includes publication in local media. The Mayor has every right to marshall his forces to counter the recall. He can buy TV time....he can raise money...etc...
He has a very different opinion of how he is doing as Mayor. But I think 83% of the voters not showing up for his re-election speaks volumes about the lack of faith in his leadership. Most of the remaining 17% were being driven by other candidates and races, anyway.
(By the way, if the Mayor had acknowledged the other candidates and actually appeared at campaign events, turnout would have been higher and his precious Measure B solar program probably would have won. His own ego cost his IBEW supporters a few billion dollars.)
Once the recall action is filed, THEN you can start collecting signatures. I haven't collected a single one yet. The action has not been filed yet.
However, I am working with my webmaster to build the website RECALLANTONIO.COM
I hope to provide a website where you can download the petition forms and print them out and go get signatures yourself.
Word of mouth and general contempt for the Mayor may create a firestorm of support.
Or maybe it won't.
Time will tell.

Zuma,
Showing up for council for three years and speaking on every agenda item that comes along doesn't make you the best candidate for CD2. Most of us interested folks work during the day, otherwise we'd be down at council far more often.
As for you and Sunland-Tunjunga, Lake View Terrace, and Shadow Hills:
When I told you that a lot of our area would most likely vote for Mary B because she is a local, well-known advocate, you went nuts on the phone and told me (paraphrasing now) that you would never ever do a thing to help a group of people who would vote for someone solely based on being local. You then intimated that you would be essentially vindictive if you did win.
In the past in personal conversations, you've also expressed disdain at people's chosen way of life in S-T area and that we've chosen "luxuries" that no one else cares about or should have to care about. Issues related to those "luxuries" are our problems in your mind.
I've seen just how vindictive you can be when you decide - right or wrong - that you have been crossed.
You are not the right person for CD2. In fact, you are the absolute wrong person at this time in your life.
Perhaps if you achieve a stable life and deal with your anger management issues, maybe then. But not now.
Becoming the CD2 councilmember is not the answer to dealing with your issues.
I hope you do find the real answers someday.

He also lacks any self image and cannot be embarrassed. He has no shame.

Forget your personal squabble with him for a minute. I love Mary, but she's not going to win. She's going to just split votes a little.
Zuma is not the absolute wrong person right now.

How am I wrong about this one? Did I misunderstand the conversations I related? When Zuma was berating my community, did he really mean he totally respected us?
You may choose to call me a liar or something, but I don't think the phone conversations I related can somehow be wrong in terms of what they mean. They were pretty clear. Take it or leave it.
Scary how 7:51pm and 3:24am write like they are exactly the same person. Makes me ask myself why I even bother responding to any comments on this blog.
