Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
Former State Senator and 60s sixties radical Tom Hayden writes in the redesigned LA Times his concerns about the ethical implications of William Bratton's departure as LAPD Chief. Bratton is going to work for Michael Cherkasky whose firm was hired by the City of Los Angeles to monitor the LAPD's compliance with a use of force consent decree. Hayden wants an independent investigation of Bratton's relationship with Cherkasky and to determine if Cherkasky had already made plans to hire Bratton as soon as the consent decree was lifted. With investigations by City Attorney Carmen Trutanich this issues adds to the laundry list of questions that must be asked before Bratton leaves town for good.
Los Angeles County's Young Democrats endorsed Los Angeles School Board member Tamar Galatzan for LA City Council District 2 Thursday night. Results were 79% for Tamar Galatzan, 17% for Paul Krekorian, 4% all others/no endorsement.
Good point by Jason Burns at Metrobloging. California and Los Angeles citizens voted to tax themselves to build more rail lines. Yet the train cars are being ordered from Korea, Italy and Germany, all countries whose collective asses we kicked in various wars. With high unemployment, recession and Obama stimulus efforts why aren't these train cars being built in LA?
The always great Latinopolitics.com blog notes that Orange County Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has gone beyond the town hall meeting plan. Sanchez is involved in "prayer vigils" for health care. Given some of the reports Latino Politics has had about Rep. Sanchez's "extracurricular activities" it appears she better attend confession.
In case you were wondering my view of the LA Times recent website redesign, you can read it here.
Congrats to Franklin Avenue bloggers Mike and Maria on the birth of their second son, Nathan Antonio (Antonio???) on August 11th. Baby came in at 8 pounds, 3 oz. Mom and child are doing great as are Dad and big brother Evan, 4.5 yrs. Our best wishes to the happy family!

Jill Stewart's conspiracy theories and reading things into someone seeing Bratton's wife crying at Mozza, which is then picked up by that other krank Kaye, ranks only slightly more reliably than Zuma Dogg's "explanation" for the Adelman affair.
Anyone ever consider that maybe Bratton just would rather be around people who appreciate him and what he does - which is just about everywhere outside of L A's
"leadership?"
That he's not a guy to run from anything, but is known for liking to be upbeat and around other positive people of similar intelligence. So maybe he just plain thinks negative, nit-picking or downright hostile and often dumb people like Zine, Smith, Parks and finally Trutanich create a negative energy he just doesn't want to be around?
With his 40 or so years of service and worldwide respect, maybe he isn't willing to take crap from a nobody from nowhere, when his essential work is done and he has greener pastures ahead?
What next, he should stick around to see if Zuma Dogg wins CD2 and lords it over him too?
Having said this, if Stewart is even partly right, the idea of Bratton being mayor when Antonio moves on would have been great.
Riddle me this Riddle me that said:

What is it exactly that the AV is taking credit for with respect to the environment? I know he failed at the milllion trees thing, but what else is he claiming credit for, and it is worthy of having those idiotic bus stop posters and who the heck is paying for them? Talk about a waste of public money!

The whole thing reminds me of the lyrics to that Husker Du song, although the exact lyric escapes me but it is entirely applicable.
Husker Du-ers out there, sound off now. What the heck is the lyric?

The husker du song went
All tensed up, did too many pills
Wanna get near you but I can't stand still
Baby, I love you, but I'm too loaded to love you properly

Ron Kaye has lost his cred in this town. Everyone is bad mouthing his hypocritical two faced. He loved Trutanich and his SLAP group supported him then once he sees the negative publicity he allows a hit piece on his blog. Talk about loyalty? Ron sticks up for losers like Jill Stewart who is getting slammed all over town. Kaye never liked Bratton. Tom Hayden supported Tookie Williams the Crips originator, Hayden supports gang bangers and hasn't done anything in ages. Shows the desperation of LA Slimes to allow him to write a hit piece. You people are crazy. Bratton poll numbers are higher any politician in the nation right now. LAPD has been more successful is so many areas and we get idiots like Ron Kaye and tom Hayden blasting him. Sorry ass losers. Men who whine and complain like this have no balls.

I love Jill Stewart and Bratton both. Where does that put me? Sometimes you just can't classify people into little categories. If Jill despised Bratton, I would read what she wrote, pick out what I thought sounded credible or likely and maybe I would think Bratton was wrong on that one issue.
I think Ron Kaye is a great guy for a Republican...heh heh... and I have never in my life subscribed to the god-awful, we-hate-the-valley Los Angeles Times. Sometimes I agree with Ron and sometimes I don't. I agree in theory that his wanting to fire up the people sounds good, but then he writes about something glowingly that is the polar opposite of what he says he wants.
For example, he might state he doesn't want the candidate with the most money to win, but then he endorses them. It makes me scratch my head.
He has a hard time being pro-business and anti-development. There is a fine line to walk and one slip-up and the other side will throw you to the wolves. Or he'll claim to like the idea of neighborhood councils, then he'll endorse a candidate who hates them.
Politics. Funny to watch.

Bratton did something desparately needed. That is he bought in community based policing. He brought in the community to help the LAPD fight crime. He had the intelligent and the courage to say the police need the community. There is now more bonding between LAPD and neighborhoods then there has ever been.

No more fee waivers for special events!! Let those that want special events pay for them. Why should taxpayers be on the hook for them?

Found out the other day the reason why city council voted for no more signs is really because Carmen Tru wrote them a letter telling them to.
I know those clown idiots could not figure that out on their own. Now that we have someone down at city hall with half a brain maybe the clowns will get something done and do the right thing. But only if they are told to by the right person.

10:36: stop shilling for Trutanich on every thread, it's blatant, unimaginative and tiresome. "Now that we finally have someone down there with a brain," "with balls," whatever, right. He's a low-class blowhard and buffoon like Zine, an embarrassment to the city. His "ethics" are a disgrace, and his promising all things to all people has already blown up at him -- his promises and hustles for votes far exceeded his willingness or ability to deliver.
He might be smarter than half the council, including Tom LeBonge and Zine and Hahn and Perry, especially, but that's not saying much.
I didn't see any high-fiving about the $8.1 million awarded for two firefighter lawsuits this week, did I?

Its the PPL posting positive for Trutanich. they bought his election for $750,000 and got blasted from the NC's for promoting a Greig Smith event instead of their own rank and file. Just wait til everyone finds out that's not enough. The PPL police union is going to HONOR TRUTANICH next month at their Eagle and Badge dinner at a ritzy hotel. Honor Trutanich for what he's only been in office 3 weeks? They couldn't get anyone to buy tables so the sleaze bags like Paul Weber and goons threw at the bottom or their press release they will honor Medal of Valor receiptents. These goons at PPL are not better then council idiots. No wonder rank and file want to bail and go with teamsters.
Anonymous said:
You're right about the PPL and their sham event that's costing a bundle for the police rank and file. No one wanted to buy expensive tables for that goon Trutanich so they added the Medal of Valor guys, Eric Garcetti which shows how he's turned so easily, and a black newscaster. These goons made a huge mistake and are throwing more good money after bad trying to shore up their goon.
Wonder what Eric's thing is really, maybe he's hoping that when he runs for Mayor against Wendy or whoever, the PPL/ Zine/ Trutanich/ Cooley/ Weber crowd will back him, but not a chance. They're going with one of their own, but will use anyone they can to shore up their goon Trutanich.
