Tamar Galatzan confirmed this morning that she has indeed qualified to be on the ballot for CD2.
This brings the total known qualified candidates up to 6 (so far). The others that have qualified are Sheftel, Krekorian, Essel, Essavi, and Pugliese. The LA City Clerk has not yet updated their website to reflect the addition of Galatzan.

Joe, not sure how you can be as diplomatic as you are to the wife of a lying, big business supporting, HOME DEPOT quisling.

Her record w/ LAUSD stinks. She's completely tainted by the husband. Run her out of town. Seriously.

Just reporting the news, my friend.
Hey, Tamar is not her husband, he was head of VICA during the HD episode so his job was to show up at hearings and state VICA's position.
I still don't like the guy but I'm willing to let Tamar campaign without having to explain her husband everywhere she goes. And if I, as the former head of the No Home Depot campaign can let this pass, I hope others can too.

Well this means that Tamar is having a better day than Chris Essel

How bad is it to hold a press conference and not a single press person shows up.

Who cares what Essel does, she will not be a factor in this race.

She means nothing inside CD2.

I was at the press conference. It was a complete disaster. You could not hear anything over the sound of construction and traffic, they clearly did not advance the site.

Also, Riordan asked Essel what she thinks of the Latino community in the middle of the press conference. Essel's answer was, "I have many Latino friends...many elected officials who are Latino are my friends." At one point, essel stepped back from the popdium, rubbed her eyes and face, then stepped back and continued.

Her handlers were completely dejected by her performance and clearly did not realize riordan is senile.

not a good way to start the day for christine.

We get it already!

To call any of these candidates part of an Axis of Evil is uncalled for. None of these candidates are evil. They all care about the city, but in different ways. If you're going to dismiss as evil, a socialist, or a communist everyone who doesn't agree with you, your list of friends could be counted on one hand.

11:37 pipes up EVERY thread at least once, usually more, to try to "tarnish" either Tamar or Chris Essel or Paul with supporting Weiss.

Get this straight: anyone who DID support Weiss is looking pretty smart right now, while those who fell for Trutanich's "soundbites and fancy speeches, not just empty words but lies," as Chick put it, delivered with a phony grin and even phonier bible-thumping to fool his naive SOHA crowd, are the real fools. LIKE 11:37 who has nothing else to say FOR a candidate.

Trutanich is a scam artist and with all the good lawyers in town, even in the City Attorney's office -- like Tamar -- to elect a buffoon with a nightschool degree from a fifth-rate night-school ONLY school that came and went in a few years amidst questions about its credibility and accreditation, a school so bad he won't admit on his bios or WIKI where he went and the Times had to hunt for it, is a disgrace to a city like L A.

AND while stiffing and sliming Laura Chick and her lawyer over the 100 grand in legal fees he'd expressly AGREED to to get her endorsement, branding Wendy a fool as well, he's already cost a HUGE waste of money on McCarthyist tribunals that are make-work projects for old hacks from the Nixon-era CIA/FBI etc., all handpicked by his puppetmaster Cooley and his friends. AND by attacking AEG without legal basis; AND threatening to sue planning commissioners who don't bow down to him when there's no legal need to do so; implying the council and mayor or their staffs might be liable to criminal prosecution, with no basis then or since; barging into Council to accuse the LAPD's excellent handling of the Jackson affairs of waste and incompetence, claiming as one of his moronic soundbites that "it cost $10,000 to police each person there" (outside Staples) as though any sane person thinks that's all there were to it: he has done more harm in a month than Rocky managed in 8 years even though he did his share. This man's ego far exceeds his mental, ethical and self-restraint capacities.

The WORST thing any candidate can do is get HIS endorsement, except with the most senile of the SOHA crowd and certain public comment gadflies. If they do, any opponent can take them apart in a heartbeat. He was Shallman's phony creation of paper mache.

Tamar Galatzen hey, I thought you ran for LAUSD. oh yeah, the Mayor bankrolled that campaign so he could load the board with his puppets, vote out the administrator, vote away all the funding to cronies and crony projects, and now its all done there, ur heading to CD2???

Your legacy at LAUSD? massive layoffs, and shortages and a nightmare future.

you should drop out of this one already, the City's broke, on the verge of bankruptcy. there's no money to siphon off. if you want to impress someone, stay at LAUSD and fix something there. the kids need you. that's what you ran for, the public voted you in, so respect the constituency and deliver on the promises made.

Paul Krekorian: ditto the respect.

I must say I am looking forward to watching these fools fall on their own swords.

I don't like when people act without character and without conscience.

Krekorian wants to help the community? How about sticking with the job he just got elected to in NOVEMBER 2008! Wendy Gruel wins Controller in March and days later Paul is out shopping for phony apartment addresses in CD 2. The guy is a career politician and scum.
His bailing out on his job will cause another special election, costing taxpayers over a million dollars -- unnecessarily.

Essel is just a total phony. She wants to help the community? How about sticking to the job she was just appointed to in JANUARY 2009!
Another shameless carpetbagger. Another Villaraigosa hand puppet. Next!

Galatzan I don't know as well, but from what I've heard, Antonio Villaraigosa wasted over 2 MILLION dollars getting her elected to the School Board. Do you see anything in Tamar Galatzan that you think was worth that waste of money? I certainly don't. Now, she wants to run from another government job....because she "cares" ! Unfortunately , she is another Antonio stooge and part 3 of the Axis of Evil.

I like several of the other candidates for CD and want ANY of them to win except for the Evil 3. The City needs fewer people in power who think Antonio Villaraigosa knows what he is doing and that he has been good for the City of L.A.

Villaraigosa was scheduled to be going to Iceland for the trip, the same location he went to after being elected in 2005.
He is scheduled to return on Aug. 4, city officials said.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan

announced today he is endorsing former Paramount Pictures executive Christine

Essel to succeed Wendy Greuel as the council member for the 2nd District.

``The City Council needs problem solvers, not politicians,'' Riordan

said at a news conference in North Hollywood. ``In both the private and public

sectors, Christine Essel has proven that she has the skills and the commitment

to get the job done.

``We need to fix our economy and reform our broken school system,''

Riordan added. ``Christine Essel is the candidate I trust to make progress on

these issues at City Hall.''

Essel said she deeply admired Riordan as a leader and felt honored to

have his help in her campaign.

The businesswoman has taken a commanding lead in the race. She has

raised $118,000 for her campaign warchest, when no other candidate's

fundraising has reached $50,000.

Her campaign is reportedly being run by John Shallman, who managed

Greuel and Carmen Trutanich's successful campaigns to become city controller

and city attorney, respectively. Both Greuel and Trutanich were sworn in on

July 1.

Another prominent candidate is San Fernando Valley Assemblyman Paul

Krekorian. When he declared his candidacy, he said he wanted to be ``a

councilman who understands that government needs to learn to listen before it

can lead.''

Krekorian added that he would ``work to improve public safety so we can

thrive in safe neighborhoods and will implement what has been a sterling track

record of solving problems and coming through for residents in the Valley.''

Also in the race are Los Angeles Unified School District board member

Tamar Galatzan; county commissioner Jozef ``Joe'' Thomas Essavi; city

commissioner and teacher Louis Pugliese; Navy reservist and auditor Erich

Klain; candy factory owner Frank Sheftel; businessman Augusto Bisani; artist-

writer Radomir Vojtech Luza; and community activists Mary Benson, Pete Sanchez,

Michael McCue and David ``Zuma Dogg'' Saltsburg.

Community activist Laurette Healey withdrew her declaration of intent to

file for candidacy.

Los Angeles' 2nd District stretches from Mulholland Drive in the

Hollywood Hills to Big Tujunga Road in the Verdugo Hills. It includes the

communities of Lake View Terrace, La Tuna Canyon, North Hollywood, Shadow

Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sunland, Sun Valley, Tujunga, Valley Village,

Valley Glen and Van Nuys.

The winner of the election will finish out Greuel's term.

How could anyone consider Tamar Galatzan after she had no problem jumping in bed with Villaraigosa to get elected onto the LAUSD school board. That's some deal with the devil she was willing to take. She may have deviated from what the mayor wanted, but when it came to deciding whether she would hop in the mayor car for the heist, she had no problem saying, "Yes."

Tamar can say now, that the mayor is more of a liability than an asset, "I parted ways with the mayor." But she said, "yes" to him in the first place. That goes to her character and values.

And you can say, "Don't judge me based on the fact that my husband has been on all the wrong sides of the issues, against the community: I just sleep with him and we just have kids together." Hmmm, again, it goes to her character and willing to go along with anything. So she LOVES her husband, just doesn't agree with him on anything that may piss off people who may support her otherwise.

But hey, she was also on the Jack Weiss team, so what do you expect.

Just call her "Go Along Galatzan."

MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE CONSIDERING TAMAR GALATZAN: I think it is a good sign that Tamar shows ambition. I know she was touting how she was the perfect person to be LAUSD boardmember because she has a kid who was starting LAUSD.

And I know she said that she had such a great, fresh perspective as a mom. And she was just PERFECT for the job and cared so much about kids and parents.

Well, now that kids and parents and principals and teachers have invested these recent years getting Tamar up to speed, getting to know her, and she still has a lot to follow through on as in things that she started...

THAT WAS BEFORE SHE KNEW THE CD2 COUNCIL SEAT WOULD BE OPEN, WHICH PAYS A LOT MORE, HAS BETTER BENEFITS, IS A LONGER TERM AND OVERALL MUCH MORE FINANCIALLY REWARDING POSITION!

Forget the committments. Forget the promises. Forget the kids and parents. Make that money!

Let's face it, Tamar has know all along this LAUSD thing was just a "warm up spot" until she could slide into a council seat on the backs of Villaraigosa, kids, parents and the community.

I think she should be rewarded with your vote. Especially since she is using her LAUSD position to garner support since she still oversees a big chunk of district dollars.

Wow, don't be fooled by her down home demeanor. This lady is a shark! (But again, we already knew that since she is a procecutor.)

AND NOW THAT SHE HAS BEEN CERTIFIED AS A CITY COUNICL CANDIDATE, I'M SURE SHE WILL BE STEPPING DOWN FROM HER DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY POSITION WITH THE CITY DURING THE CAMPAIGN?

9:05PM - Galatzan a prosecutor? Not so much. Since she launched her political career, she's too busy to be bothered about her job at the city attorney's office. She hasn't prosecuted anything in the past four years.

Galatzan gets over $100k as a city attorney, and $26k from her part time LAUSD Board Member gig. Galatzan really pushed for Weiss during the run-off election in the hope of being promoted. 9:43pm says Trutanich supports her now, wonder if he knows she's such a Weiss fan?

Essell will smile a lot.

Any or all of them will attack the others for "lack of experience" in government, which actually should be a prerequisite for this job.

9:43, yes that is a big huge negative against Tamar, that Nuch is shmoozing her and making sure she's on the high end of the payroll, gets the time off she needs and so on AS LONG AS she throws Antonio and the two mil he spent on her under the bus. Just like Cooley did for David Berger while he campaigned and was on every blog trashing Jack Weiss, as long as he trashed Jack Weiss. With a promise of a carrot they've now delivered on and more.

So IF Tamar doesn't get into the run-off they will use her and reward her well to trash one of the other leading candidates while finding another patsy to "run" for them.

Tamar said from the beginning that the School Board seat was merely a launching point for her political career. Anyone who's been around the LA political scene has heard it.

Additionally, it wasn't a quiet rumor that Wendy was running for Controller so I'm sure Tamar knew exactly what she was doing when she ran for LAUSD. Once elected breaking ties with those who helped get her into office. What does that say about loyalty? I don't care if it is the Mayor or Joe Shmoe, you don't forget about the people who helped get you where you are. It's hypocritical and makes a person appear untrustworthy.

Tamar is a classist who will fight to bring more rights to people who already have them rather than learning about and drawing attention to her underserved constituents just as she as as School Board Member.

She has little idea what she is doing in LAUSD and will have even less of an idea in City Council.

He is also endorsed by Congressman Brad Sherman, Coucilman paul Koretz and Assemblyman Michael Feuer.
Of all the eight candidates thus far qualified he has the most intellectual firepower. He knows how Sacramento works (or doesn't work).
"Go Along Galatzan" Abbreviated as GAG (common dictionary definitions to choke or as a noun "a joke) has done nothing but disservice to the City. There is no conceivable way one can be a top notch prosecutor and a top notch school board member dealing with a deeply troubled school district at the same time. Something had to suffer. In this case schools and public safety both suffered. Two years in the school board job and already hankering to move on. Tamar pay your dues and finish at least one term on the school board. Perhpas in 2012 you can be rewarded with an asswembly seat when Mike Feuer is termed out. Resign your job now with the City Attorney as you do nothave that much comp time.
