Relax Higby,

As a staffer, I'm sure that Mr. Leon's e-mail address is part of various listserves that provide information regarding a multitude of issues. He has every right to forward those e-mails to those who he thinks would be interested in it.

If it was something that is a part of the Mayor's Newsletters, then I think you would be right to associate it to the Mayor in the manner that you did. But since it's not, you should retract your statement and acknowledge it for what it is - a staffer passing along information to those who he thinks would be interested in it.

Higby,

The last thing the Mayor wanted for this was to get out.

It's more fodder for Newsom and Brown.

They're scared to death of what Mayor Sam publishes and it's impact on the primary.

Keep it up.

God bless,
Someone who knows

5:47, you know nothing. Certainly not that Newsom is far more actively pro-illegal immigrant than Antonio, actively encouraging them to settle in the San Francisco area with lures of free social services and healthcare, free preschool for their children, special programs for juvenile felon gangmembers.

As for this email, you might want to find out what you're all talking about first. Sounds like it's some sort of already existing scholarship that can be used to get gangmembers off the streets.

Leave it the racist xenophobe Mike Higby comment on this great program. Does Higby hear mexican voices on the radio like Walter Moore?

Nothing but vitriol and hate from Higby's blog !!!

Bill To Make Mexican Identification Official

A pair of lawmakers in the nation’s most populous state has introduced legislation that would allow easily forged Mexican identification cards—popular among illegal immigrants—to be accepted as an official form of ID.

The California Democrats, a state senator from the south and an assemblyman from the north, want the Mexican Matricula Consular cards to carry the same weight as a U.S. government-issued identification—such as a Department of Motor Vehicle drivers license or a State Department passport—for business transactions.

Proposed Senate Bill No. 461 (Introduced by Senator Correa)

Trujillo is far too busy and the other two don't give a shit what is said here. They focus on bigger things.

All three of them are straight-up pros whether you like it or not.

Haters get used to it. Learn to work with them. Learn to love them. Learn to accept them. The more you hate, the more us regular white folks want to make other whites understand that this is nothing to be afraid of.

Anyone who remains in LA after the reign of terror of the Mecha pig...deserves what they get! Those of us who have kept outselves informed have known for years that Villagrossa has had one goal...to bring every low class, illiterate, third worlder here from Mexico!

If you couldn't bother to get off the couch and vote him OUT...keep your mouth shut and suffer in silence! You did it to yourselves!

In case you haven't noticed, LA Unified is the WORST school system in the country and you don't have to ask WHY! It's patently obvious! Hint: It's NOT the teachers!

Villagrossa is a criminal law breaker who should be in prison, but all of you apathetic voters obviously don't give a damn!

Will the last American standing in LA please turn out the lights?

Gee, this is being posted on blogs in New York City. The Latinos who assimilated in America are tired of the illegals who have ruined Los Angeles and other cities like Maywood, Santa Ana, Pacoima, San Fernando, Riverside, parts of Orange County, with their filth, tons of kids, using up valuable resources, we've had health clinics closed are mad they came here. They refuse to speak English and assimilate into our culture here in LA. Some have been here over 10 years, don't apply for citizenship, get free WIC, Welfare, education, housing and all because of the hard working LEGAL LATINOS in this city and other legal residents. Shut the hell up those who say WE ARE RACIST. No, we're educated, abide by the laws and have pride in our environment which the illgals don't. Go to MacArthur Park and Downtown LA and see the filth they bring.

This is typical of Villaraigosa's staffers using city time and money sending out this type of shit. They did this during the campaign. This info is being circulated all over the city. When is Villarigosa going to stop catering to illegals and gang members. He does a lot for them and nothing for the students who are in sports or making the right choices. He has in his budget money for gang members and now he's soliciting for illegals. No wonder Walter Moore got 40% vote in the Valley.

As soon as the cartels cut loose with more funding you'll witness the upgrade. Right now they're devoting most of their resources to the campaign to take over the fine country to the South. The fact Washington hasn't done jack to push forward legislation to help illegals get citizenship speaks volumes. The violence in Mexico is scary given those assholes are coming to LA and infultriating our city and the Mayor has the audacity to invite the damn President of Mexico here. This Mayor is turning our city into a 3rd world country and every newspaper wrote a negative hit piece even while endorsing the Mayor. I hope the movement started in the Valley with Ron Kaye continues to grow even more. The Valley should definitely take up separating itself from LA if they don't want to go down the toliet. There is a difference between telling a bunch of crybabies who call my phone round the clock with every NIMBY issue that they want to talk my ear off over, then have me blog it, then have me talk about it on TV, then have me go to a meeting about (which I did for three years, then only 15% of the people went out to vote anyway) --

and posting on twitter that I was going to be in malibu and if any of my friends were going to be in the area to call me on a saturday.

Yes, I admit...I am still a little bit of a human being, and trying to be more of one...but I am sorry for making a personal post on my personal twitter account on a saturday.

Illegal immigration is a fact of life in the United States. We can discourage it, we can condemn it, we can enforce it -- but we can and never will make it stop. As long as people can't find opportunities in their home countries and need to find a better way to feed their families, and as long as employers here pay low wages for valued labor, people will continue to immigrate here. They are here, and they are staying -- and as with earlier waves of immigrants that include my ancestors and yours, illegal immigrants are us. They are America. And as long as we keep denying them and their children opportunities, the reality is that we perpetuate an underclass, and that only creates more problems.

Scholarships are an important tool for giving a hand up to smart kids who are willing to work hard and just need that extra bit of opportunity because they have never had access to quality schools or any chance at higher education.

America is supposed to be a meritocracy -- rewards are supposed to go to those who work hard and play a valuable role in society. Illegal immigrants as a group work extremely hard and perform tasks that are vital to our society's continued functioning.

The multimillionaires responsible for the collapse of our financial system are the ones who should be deported.

How about California? Does anyone know?

Nevada’s $630 Million Illegal Immigrant Burden

One of the states hardest hit by the nation’s dire financial crisis annually spends hundreds of millions of dollars to educate, incarcerate and medically treat its rapidly growing illegal immigrant population.

Each year taxpayers in Nevada, the country’s fastest growing state, spend a whopping $630 million to provide illegal aliens with public services that should be reserved for legal U.S. residents. The burden has taken such a toll that the desperate state legislature passed several measures to help curb illegal immigration.

Among them are laws addressing human smuggling and drivers licenses. Additionally, local police departments in municipalities with especially high illegal alien populations—such as Las Vegas—have entered into federal partnerships to enforce immigration law.

But the damage has been done in a once prosperous state that for nearly two years has had the nation’s highest home foreclosure rate. Around 5 million fraudulent mortgages nationwide are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and its no secret that a substantial chunk of them are in Nevada. Illegal immigrants are draining the state in other ways too.

A report (The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Nevadans) published by a nonprofit organization that strives to secure the southern border, lays out the alarming statistics which were obtained by using federal and state figures. A poll had already revealed that a majority of Nevadans think illegal immigration is having a negative effect on the state's budget.

This will only drive the point home. The state spends $470 million annually to educate the children of illegal immigrants in public schools and an additional $45 million for limited English program. Eighty five million goes to healthcare for illegal immigrants and $31 to incarcerate them.

Other similar reports have been published in the last few years documenting the huge financial burden that illegal immigration has on states, counties and cities throughout the country. U.S. taxpayers annually dish out tens of billions of dollars to educate, incarcerate and medically treat the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

While the use of public services by illegal immigrants may impose somewhat of a financial burden, they also pay into the system through sales taxes and other taxes.

For years, conservatives have been complaining that illegal immigrants overburden the educational system and public services while simultaneously trying to cut and dismantle those services.

The truth is that public services are overburdened not by illegal immigrants, but by the inequity of distribution of funds. Go into any nice neighborhood and check out the public schools -- they're nice, they function, kids get a good education. Now go into any inner-city or rural area and you will find crumbling, neglected, non-functioning schools and services. This is not a result of illegal immigration: in the US, this has been the case for many years. Ask any African-American resident of the inner city how their local public schools were before the influx of illegal immigrants began in earnest in the 70s and 80s, and they will surely tell you those schools were in almost as bad shape as they are today -- they were just as non-functioning, almost as unsafe, and were exemplars of the unequal distribution of resources to low income people in this country.

People with money have influence. Their communities get the public resources -- the functioning hospitals, schools, etc. Poor, low income, and increasingly, middle-class people are left with the dregs. Call it a socialist sentiment if you want, but we need a society that functions, regardless of what you call it.

Illegal immigrants are a convenient scapegoat. Ask about where most earmark money goes. Ask about subsidies to large corporations. Ask about how our taxpayer dollars are used by the government bureaucracy. If we're going to have a society that works, where people don't live in fear of an underclass so undernourished, undereducated, and so lacking in opportunities that they might riot at any moment, we need to move toward a far more equitable distribution of resources.
