Saltsburg Responds to Moore and Rubin Debate Threats

BREAKING NEWS: We have received word that mayoral candidates Walter Moore and Craig X Rubin have allegedly joined together to ask that fellow candidate David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg be barred from a candidates forum held this afternoon at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. This is in response to allegations from Rubin that Saltsburg made death threats against Rubin; allegations that Saltsburg has denied.

Via a third party, we received the following email sent by Rubin:

"I would appreciate you all helping me to make sure that Zuma, who is no longer a viable candidate (not that you all ever thought he was to begin with), stays out of the remaining debates by unanimous consent rather than me alone. I think Walter will be on this, but if not I will do it alone."

We then contacted Saltsburg for his reaction, contained in the clip below. Speaking directly from the Fonda a few moments ago, Saltsburg says he intends to participate in the forum and that he "does not answer" to Moore nor Rubin.

Good afternoon my lord Mayor (removes hat with flourish and makes elegant leg):

While we certainly do not wish Zuma lad any ill fortune, he is, if you will, now in command of his own ship. Fear not, as we have given him an oar and a roll of loo tiss-you in case he should need one or both.

Remember a while back when I posted about Sir Walter and the goings on at the Courthouse? Connect the dots and you will see who the true culprit is.

As for Reverend X who is dishing out flotsam and jetsam, and you sots who believe such drivel perhaps in the future you might want to be a little more solicitous of your local pirates and privateers, savvy?

I’m no fan of Tony V, but Walter Moore scares me. His whole platform can be summed up as, "There are too many Mexicans in L.A., and wouldn’t it be nice if we could go back to the 1950s, back when L.A. didn’t look like Mexico?"

Without calling Moore a racist or any other loaded term that swings the discussion over to what "racist" means, let’s take something like Jamiel’s Law, which Moore authored and tried (unsuccessfully) to get on the ballot. Based on the statute’s assumption that "many, if not most, of the members of the gangs in Los Angeles are illegal aliens," if passed, it would have mandated that the LAPD "identify, arrest, deport and/or prosecute and imprison gang members who are in the country illegally, without waiting to catch them committing murders or other crimes before enforcing the immigration laws against them." This may or may not sounds great in theory but I think this is terrible in practice - how do you identify gang members who are in the country illegally? Ah, racial, classist profiling at its best.

Then there’s this interview with the LA Times yesterday in which he stated a number of things I personally don’t agree with: first, no more funding for the Subway to the Sea (he’d use the funding to build underground parking and increase buses) and second, replacing Bratton with
Joe Arpaio, an Arizona sheriff who recently paraded a little more than 200 chained illegal immigrants through Phoenix, segregating them away from the county jail and into a little tent city, complete with electric fence. DetentionWatch was all over this, as was the local AZ news, but unfortunately, a lot of Joe’s media stunts fly under the radar.

As much as don’t like AV, I’m not willing to throw my vote behind someone whose politics I hate even more than AV’s, just to make a statement that he needs to answer to his constituents more. Because, for me, the alternative is worse: sending the wrong message of tacit endorsement to a guy I can tolerate even less than the incumbent.

I almost dropped when I read that quote by Moore about hiring Arpaio. Arpaio's Nazi tactics against the LA Weekly was covered in LA, even by the WWG so I wondered what the LA Weekly staff thought of it.

Joe Arpaio arrested the Weekly/New Times Publishers last year over an article they did, His thugs impounded their website, and got the ISPs for all New Times readers. The Weekly should not hesitate. They must come out and support Zuma Dogg after that comment by Walter.

Zuma Dogg's behavior has marginalized ALL of the candidates. He was fine up until now. He is now going to make the whole lot of alternate candidates seem like children.

Zuma Dogg, please quietly step aside. Keep coming to city council and doing your thing. But step aside to at least let the legitimate candidates do THEIR part

Well if Walter and Rubin don't want to come, that's up to them. They can join Antonio and you already know he's got no respect for voters to tell them his positive attributes- we have seen the negative ones all to often.

Rubin's problem might just be his credibility and not showing up will clear off the ballot very neatly.

Walter has always been the most abrasive of all the more prominent challengers and still doesn't see that- putting off most of the undecided ones and irritating his regulars.

If Walter doesn't show up, it's bad for him; if he does, then why bother with the ultimatum?... it's bad for him again. I would choose him in a run-off, after all, you can see Antonio's game plan and it's not doing any more for L.A. this term, either- especially with the new budget shorfall b/c of pensions, etc. Expect more taxes; he already wants to sell off rights to city property and lease for decades- back to "immediate gains for me and L.A. pays the bill in perpetuity as I leave for greener pastures."

I just can't buy THAT; and if TONY loses the Gov. nomination, he will be pissed and embarrassed more than he already is from Obama blowing him off like JACK WEISS does his contituents.

I support ZD on this one very clearly and if he did not show up, I would have to wonder about how committed he is to see this through.

Right now, we are fine. I did not know Rubin was considered a "whack" job, etc., since I just didn't pay much attention to him, but he's burned his bridges behind him, not that they were that important, but still HE'S the one who appears to have gone off.

This is an appropriate thread to ask this, since it is about the election antics of Moore and Rubin.

Michael Higby, you are friends with Moore. Why does he want us to hate each other so much? What can he possibly hope to gain? I'm againt illegal immigration, but my ancestors were Greek immigrants. It seems to me that Moore is against us all.

You're family is true American, Michael? Does it feel hurtful to you like it does to us?

I believe we can have reasonable controls on immigration without resorting to bigotry.

I am now not sure Walter Moore feels the same.

A Greek Feast: Feta Stuffed Chicken On Greek Salad

4 Chicken Breasts with skin
1 Pckg Garlic Feta Cheese
1 Head Baby Greens
2 Ripe Tomatoes
Cesar Salad Dressing
Olive Oil
Dried oregano.
Dried rosemary.
Lemon pepper
Toothpicks

Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Wash Chicken
Slice Feta Cheese
Stuff chicken breasts with feta. Secure with toothpicks.
Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with oregano, dried rosemary, and crushed lemon pepper.
Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. Turn down oven and bake for another 30 minutes at 375.

While chicken is baking, assemble salad. Wash baby greans and divide among four plates. Dice tomatoes and assemble ontop of the greens. Drizzle with cesar salad dressing. I like Paul Newman's, but any supermarket brand will do.

Take chicken out of the oven when the cooking time is 50 to 60 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes. Place on breast atop each salad plate. Drizzle some of the pan juices ontop of each breast. Serve hot or warm.

Delicious and Atkins diet friendly.

Did Walter rescue the chicken in his ads from someone's back yard, in the nick of time? WHERE is that chicken now, Walter? Still alive or have you eaten it using the recipe above?

Did MC adopt it, in her chicken costume? Is it in your condo now? Are the two chickens good pals?

Poor Walter has been lumped in with all these misfits by the media, who are laughing at all the "unusual" mayoral candidates. It's all working to AnVil's advantage. Walter did get his own spread in the Times, but came off looking ridiculous to mainstream voters. He's still got his right wing talk radio base at least, but the other nuts have lost it all.

Make scrambled eggs, adding cheddar cheese at the end.

Make breakfast burritos. Place the burrito on some aluminum foil. Put in the cheese eggs, salsa, black beans, chopped onion, cilantro. Foil wrap the sandwich and cut in fours. Serve with guacamole on the side.

About the barnyard animals.

It's against city code to have farm animals in city limits.

I live in Highland Park. I've heard roosters crowing.
I've seen chickens walking down the sidewalk.
I've seen chickens in a front yard, on the front porch and walking into a front door.

Where do you people live that think this is a nonexistent issue.

I was the one who played mediator in this whole event.

Here is Craigs email...

Dear Gentleman,

Obviously everyone is aware of what happened between Mr. Dogg and myself.
Phil Jennerjahn seemed to side with Zuma stating that I "over reacted," but
Phil doesn't have a house full of kids or any experience dealing with the
mentally ill and homeless; I do.

I received this letter via email from Suzy Evans a candidate for City
Controller. She is scared of Zuma and felt threatened by his call even
though he didn't threaten her directly he left a very disturbing message
on her machine. We spoke for some time and she'll be giving her tape to the
District Attorney on Monday.

I would appreciate you all helping me to make sure that Zuma, who is no
longer a viable candidate (not that you all ever thought he was to begin
with), stays out of the remaining debates by unanimous consent
rather than me alone. I think Walter will be on this, but if not I will
do it alone.

Thank you,
Craig X Rubin

Here was my response to all the candidates...

To all my fellow candidates,

Look. Here is my take on this situation.

I don't know what was said between David and Craig.
I didn't hear the conversation, but they are both telling different stories which usually means the truth is somewhere in the middle, being confused by interpretations, intentions, and emotions.

We had all been civil to each other in multiple other forums before this event, and I see no need for that not to continue.

I think it shows a real lack of leadership not to be able to handle small personality disputes without getting the police involved. I think that shows really poor decision making.

I think the situation could have been handled much better.

I'm not going to take a stand that David can't be there.
All human beings get angry and say things they don't mean.
I don't disagree that David lost his temper and behaved poorly.
(He over reacted to interpreting that Walter and Craig were mocking him at UCLA while he spoke.)

But, if you are going to be involved in politics, you are dealing with lots of people who have widely varied feelings about things.

Dealing with angry people, insults... and sometimes even vague threats are part of the ballgame.
It's a big boys league and you have to be tough.

Carlos Alvarez on the PSL website called me an "Arch-reactionary", a "racist", and a "fascist".

Instead of crying about it...I LAUGHED. I actually took it as a compliment. I even shook Carlos's hand last night and told him I would defend him and his right to be there.

I don't care for Stevan Torres being there, but that is because he didn't do the necessary work to get on the ballot and we did.

But..even his presence is a relatively minor annoyance. Listening to his answers is just a waste of time, because he's not even an official write-in candidate. But if organizers give him a chair, I will just live with it.

Also...just on a matter of personal integrity here...
I don't believe in saying things about a person behind their back that you wouldn't say to their face if necessary.

If you don't want David to attend...you should email him and tell him that.

Phil
