I Am Not A Number

Patrick McGoohan, the classy, intense British actor who wrote, produced and starred in The Prisoner has passed away yesterday at age 80. McGoohan's last high-profile role was as King Edward I in Braveheart, although things would have been very different if he hadn't turned down originating the role of James Bond on the big screen. And he would have been absolutely magnificent at it. In his review of Braveheart in The Los Angeles Times, reviewer Peter Rainer noted that: "Patrick McGoohan is in possession of perhaps the most villainous enunciation in the history of acting." Missing out on the Bond bandwagon never seemed to bother McGoohan as it did other actors.

How many of us working in this town feel like Number Six on a daily basis? Watch the credit sequence from The Prisoner below and decide for yourself if you are a name or just a number in Los Angeles.
Check out the kick-ass theme and credits (especially the end credits) to one of the most iconic spy shows in history, Danger Man:
Labels: Danger Man, james bond, number six, Patrick McGoohan, Secret Agent Man, the prisoner

"My name is Tony Villar and I am just a number in Los Angeles."
"Hi Tony!"
"My name is Mirthala and too many people have my number in Los Angeles."
"Hi Mirthala!"
And Tony's number is... 11%?
"My name is PROPOSITION B and my number in Los Angeles is a 40% rate increase for the public and untold kickbacks to China."
"Ni hao, Prop B!"
Nobody cares about this.
1:29, just a representative attitude similar to the situation encountered when foreign nationals came to L.A. and bought up quasi-historical landmarks and demo-ed them for strip malls and anything else that could get them a buck.
Because you have no connection to the item, i.e., no memory of it, it's as it it never existed, therefore, doesn't matter.
(I liked Patrick McGoohan better in the "Secret Agent," series, and he was ideally cast as assorted sinister characters in the "Columbo" movies.)
Again, for the posters view, That's the way it is with lots of things here; "It's so L.A."
In LA, 90041, just another number
I care.
I feel like The Prisoner every single day in this City.
RIP Patrick McGoohan.
