What is Jack Weiss Afraid Of?

Jack Weiss has raised $1.4 million for his City Attorney race, more than all his opponents so far combined. Who are among the shady special interests and developers that have paid off this jackass? Stay tuned!

In the meantime Weiss continues to duck debates.  We reported yesterday via Z-Behr at LAist that Jacko skipped a Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils debate for all the races currently on the ballot, even though candidates for several other offices participated to share their vision.

Weiss won't even attend debates in his own Council District. A coalition of community organizations in CD5 sponsored a debate last Saturday.  All candidates except Weiss showed up.

Jack, why you such a big wuss? You can tell your old Uncle Mayor Sam.  I'm listening.  I care.  Please how can we help you to get out and tell folks why they should vote for you?

What an arrogant prick!

Just because he's raised a million dollars, he now thinks he's already won the race?

What a show of disrespect to those homeowners in the Valley!!

Then again, what else do you expect from Wacko Jacko?

Jack Weiss believes he can win by simply withdrawing from the conversation.

In the same way, Villaraigosa will start withdrawing from the public conversation, as March election date comes around the bend.

THESE MEN MIGHT BE DUMB, BUT THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT CHARACTERS WHO SCREAM AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS WILL PARE OFF ENOUGH VOTES TO CANCEL EACH OTHER OUT.

That's why they don't have to respond to posts like this. Because they know that the electorate is dumb enough to vote for the name that is simply the most familiar to them. "Villaraigosa? Yes, I heard of that guy. So I'll vote for him."

It's the same way with Jackass Weiss and the other incumbents.

Watch and you will see. It's almost impossible for them to lose simply by not participating in the public discussion, what few of them there are.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I think I'm not. Maybe more shouting at City Council will do the trick.

THis is hilarious....Gee now I know why the LA Slimes refuses to report the truth about the clown of a Mayor we have. Notice the list of invitees! LISA SARNO who makes over $100,000 under the guise of a tree person. Instead of figuring out how to fix our city these clowns are wasting time attending this type of crap.

"Translating the Transition: An Inaugural Exchange" event and reception to be held January 13, 2009.
Expected attendees include local Council members who head up key initiatives and programs within Southern California, including Janice Hahn, Jack Weiss and Dennis Zine; University of California, Los Angeles Chancellor Gene Block; former California Governor Gray Davis; Inspire Entertainment CEO James Dunne; Ari Emanuel, Partner, Endeavor Agency; Keith Fisher, CEO/Strategic Planning for New and Improved Media; Jon Goodman, President, Town Hall Los Angeles; Los Angeles Times Publisher Eddy Hartenstein and Editor Russ Stanton; Ilse Metchek, Executive Director of the California Fashion Association; legendary NBC sportscaster Al Michaels; Bladimiar Norman, SVP Paramount Vantage; Jim Royce, Director Center Theatre Group; LISA SARNO, Executive Director, Million Trees Initiative; Max Schorr, Co-Founder, Good Inc.; and Jim Wiatt, Chairman and CEO, William Morris Agency.
The invitation-only event will be held at The Times Chandler Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles.

Why should he show up and get attacked by everyone else?

he is the presumptive winner and is acting just like any other incumbent that has a bunch of guys named "Joe" running against him.

Should Antonio debate Walter and ZMutt?

I rest my case.

Jack Weiss HAS won for City Attorney. Trutanich is known only in the South Bay / San Pedro.

The real question is who will folks in the fifth council district pick to replace Jack Weiss?

Will Paul Koretz pull it off?

What about Robyn Ritter Simon, the candidate from central casting?

Or will voters be snowed and pick Adeena Bleich, aka Jack Weiss's Witch?

Is anyone really suprised at Weiss' actions. He is a smug arrogant politician who has shown over and over again that he doesn't care one whit about anyone but himself and continuing with his political career....can anyone say attorney general?

Just look at his city council record.....they guy doesn't even show up and when he does he is wrapped up in non-city business...

Oh yeah let's just allow this guy to but the City Attorney seat. NOT!!

Jack simply follows the lead as directed by ANTONIO, his campaign manager, one who will not be caught dead at a debate.

The "it's in the bag" view of the election is a campaign style that TONY and JACK share with JOSE HUIZAR of CD-14 who steadfastly stuck with this approach.

The outright contempt for voters is plainly displayed when candidates put this into their game plan. They cheat (a course of conduct not a stranger to their themes) the voter of an opportunity to hear WHAT is so good that COMPELS the voters to enable their return to office.

JACK is not the incumbent, with only federal prosecutorial experience- and federal law is what Council and the LAPD Chief have no use for when enforcement issues are involved, i.e., illegal immigration and workplace violations locally.

JACK has kept a low profile in his current coucilperson role, very literally a low-profile role, becoming the master of ducking out of meeting with constituents, done most famously when he opted to head to Westwood with TONY for a photo op dedication of the first "diagonal crosswalk in the city," avoiding a contingent of protesting people who announced their intended office visit in advance.

JACK made that choice over this alternative of meeting with the contingent of residents and concerned individuals who wanted action from JACK as Public Safety Committee Chair about the Zine-inroduced variation of JAMIEL'S LAW. That measure had been held captive in JACK's committee with no action for months, when it could have been sent to directly to Council for action by his instruction.

As a some sort of peace offering intended to placate criticism of his non-handling of duties, JACK's office later annouced that the matter would come up for a hearing in October. October would make it 7 months after the Shaw murder on March 2, 2008, by illegal alien gangster Pedro Espinoza.

All this not a very nice action to see in a hopeful for office of the City's top prosecutor.

JACK has nothing to bring to the table and would not fare well in a debate. Instead of confronting issues with some sort, any sort of indication of commitment, he runs, ducks out and otherwise remains inaccessible to discuss matters.

Thinking back to TONY's publicized list of duties for aides published in the LA TIMES in 2008 or earlier, on directive was to have TONY seated near an exit to allow him to exit unobtrusively should he so choose to do so. Is there some pattern to be found here?

There's a lot of talk that's come from JACK WEISS and that's about the end of things. His "actions" most recently, trying to grab a headline, was to bring a motion to ban .50 cal ammo in the City of L.A.

The .50 cal weapons already were made illegal in Calfornia. (Note: "BMG" is "Browning Machine Gun" which is the original weapon for which this cartridge was created.)

See Wikipedia reference, in relevant part, "Bill AB50 in California, passed in 2004, known as the .50 Caliber BMG Regulation Act of 2004 classifies all .50 BMG rifles of any action type as assault weapons, which are illegal to import into the state or transfer to any but a state agency or dealer licensed to purchase them. The bill's sponsor, California Assemblyman Paul Koretz, claimed that the .50 BMG "would be an ideal choice for use in an act of terrorism."

However, .50 BMG caliber rifles have lengths usually between four and five feet (1.2-1.5 meters) and weights from 20 to 40 pounds (10-20 kg), making a large .50 caliber rifle similar in weight to an olympic sized barbell, sized similar to a pair of skis. This makes them unwieldy and difficult to conceal, and are a rarity in crime statistics. For example, the Violence Policy Center is only able to document 4 actual uses of .50 BMG rifles by criminals,..."

Real action that was essential to the public's safety (and it was only effective within the city limits, not beyond), or was it just putting another thin coat of paint on a just-painted house?

What does JACK do of REAL substance? It sure can't be his track record as council member and his poor attendance at meetings won't help him. Without any actual "debate" forum, we will never be sure.

In CD-14, Not for Jack, for sure.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (removes hat and bows low with flourish):

Today is our last day in port before heading north, so we thought we would take advantage of the wireless.

What? CM Weiss be tellin no tales? Fie, sirrah! Sots, this is a red letter day for you for CM Weiss. Do you know why? (Crew shakes head in the negative) (Brushes dirt of arms of coat) I didn't think so. Bly me, there be some secrets the CM doesn't want us to know. Let me ask you this, dear sots: where does CM Weiss dine if he does not dine at home? And with whom does he dine if he does not dine alone?

Sots, I'm expecting all sorts of merriment when my prediction turns out to be right.

And that prediction, sots? (Raises eyebrow with air of certainty). That the news soon will bode poorly for CM Weiss sailing us towards a run-off. And no matter what kind of a shot his Nibbs and crew can fire across the bow, the campaign appears headed for Davy Jones' locker.

Saavy?

These 4 look pretty ridiculous sitting around trying to curry favor with the people hosting the "forum." Including being pressed to say that they'll give more weight to the people of CD5 than in the rest of the city -- check out the YouTube videos to see how they try to deflect getting boxes into that corner, while at the same time saying what their interrogators want to hear.

In an "invitation only" intimate gathering, one might add.

Is the gang banger, low class Mayor going to the Inauguration on our tax dollars? Sadly, many socialites and top executives, have said he doesn't know how to behave around people with class and stature. Seems the low life Mayor's homeboy days from the hood persona comes out and he embarrasses himself in front of all. All those breath mints don't help at all. He needs to go to a dentist quickly.

Los Angeles should take a lesson from the City of San Fernando who yesterday recalled two incumbents. Jose Hernandez, professor emeritus of CSUN's Chicano Studies Department and 20-year city councilmember and Julie Ruelas 6-year councilmember. They were replaced by two individuals who have ZERO political experience. IT CAN HAPPEN...but it takes a LOT of work which most laymen are not willing to invest time or effort into.

A job well done in San Fernando.

8:25/ CD14: The ammo was not banned and the guns readily available in places like Texas and vice versa, so they'd come here to buy the ammo AND just get it by mail order, so the idea was to close a loophole -- now, those guns are much less desirable. No I'm not a "third hall spinner," I read that on the comments section of the Daily News because I'd wondered the same thing.

This happens when each state has different laws making banning one gun here or there meaningless unless there's a coherent policy.

And yes there were arsenals of these weapons around, you'd be surprised.

This law has benefits for Texas and other states too as well as mail order. I just wish there would be more consistent laws.

11:25 and others, uh, the thread says the debate will be in February not already happened, but don't bother to read as usual. This one in CD5 sounds clearly rigged and if you look at the videos it sure looks that way. Good call from Weiss.

Ae you nuts?

Jack is way too much in love with himself to have room for anyone else.

He has alovely wife and great kids, so can the BS about osme clandestine affair.

The truth is, he is working 24/7 to be elected City Attorney, and, unlike some othee candidates for office, takes it seriously.

The fundraising doesn't just happen; he works atit, because he knows, unlike certain people on the blog, that it is all about TV.

No money to buy time? No chance.

Looks like it is Antonio, Jack and Wendy to me.

CD 5 still up in the air, but I think Paul or Robyn right now. Edge to Paul in the primary, but he may lose it in the run-off to Robyn.

Someone is getting very worried that jack will win handily, and is trying to distract with personal issues. In any case I don't care if someone is married or getting divorced or is separated or single or gay, as long as they get the job done. The thing that blew up about Antonio was giving the scoop about his divorce to the girlfriend, as professional ethics breach -- grow up, Captain Jack, you're just showing desperation.

This entire video consists of the woman in foreground (who's not id'd here) bitching about jack weiss and how she's surprised and not surprised that he didn't show "in this type of forum, where he would actually have to be accountable." Attacked or set-upon, she clearly means. The other videos go on to confirm that the handful of invited (NOT open to the public) people at this "forum," in a private home in a smallish living room it appears, are the same ones who organized every opposition to him over the past two years, on every issue. In fact, this "coalition" was set up specifically for that purpose, if you go back over their comments to the press and on their website -- it appears they are also the same people who set up a phony election website purporting to be "official" for the sole purpose of in fact attacking him. Like he's going to show.

The session is on YouTube under a number of subjects, like how loyal these candidates will be to CD-5. As though they wanted to make it really transparent what their motives were in holding this.

This group is also the same one which recently hosted a similar "candidate forum" for candidates for CD5 CM, and rigged it so that their candidate David Vahedi would come out way on top in terms of the criteria they then voted on.

Vahedi was NOT endorsed by the 1/13 meeting of the L A County Democratic Party, by the way -- nor did he show to be interviewed there, where it really counted. (They endorsed Koretz, presumably because of his longest record.)

They also strongly endorsed Jack Weiss.

3:41 = Walter Moore's candidate the Burger guy, who kept saying that in the "debate." Classy and charming, just like Walter himself, who even HIS wanna-be opponents like zdogg and jennerjerk call cold and mean.

Is there any question that in a field like that, it will be Antonio, Jack and Wendy. There's an LAist interview with both Wendy and Nick today -- Nick doesn't give any specifics in his answers, whereas it's clear that Wendy is aware of the problems that need to be solved, the first step in that process. Plus Nick is even more convoluded in person when you can't even understand him -- on top of the mere $32K he's raised, and Wendy getting the endorsement of the Democratic Party. She's "taken some for the team" like with the unpopularity of the parking meter rate raises (Rosendahl's idea) and implementing tow-zones on busy boulevards during rush-hour, to close the budget gap and alleviate traffic jams. But to her credit, she's been open about her actions and motives, whereas it's easy for someone like Nick to just say he'd do a better job while under his watch, the bus system deteriorated.

The last 2-3 have seen a lot of momentum and coordination on both surface and mass transit solutions and she's been a big part of that.

Not clear what party Nick belongs to -- his best bet would be some sort of promo from the Republicans in which case they might include him on their own party-slate mailer. Which, for better or worse, is the loser slate in L A.
The California version of the party is too rightwing even for Arnold, and their role in the state budget impasse hasn't helped. To my mind, Wendy's a moderate Democrat in the mold of Laura, but better at getting along with people while holding her own.
