Jamiel's Law Lives On...
According to the LA County Registrar, there is a Special Election scheduled on March 24, 2009, for the 26th District seat. Per the LA County Registrar, an initiative can be placed on this Special Election.
Below you will find numbers to call some of the Politicians that have the power to put Jamiel's Law on this Special Election. If you have questions regarding this Special Election call the Los Angeles County Registrar @ 562.466.1310.
In order to get Jamiel's Law on an election anytime soon, we must move pass the City of Los Angeles for now! The City is not interested in Jamiel's Law. This City needs reform and reform takes time.
We believe the City Elections should have counted the petitions in our presence and they should never have stored the Petitions in a warehouse basement where they were not safe, not secure and not protected!!
In the future, at least two proponents should be allowed to observe the counting process from beginning to end. All Proponents would be required to turn their Petitions in during morning hours so they could watch the process. Even if it takes more then one day, it should be done during working hours.
There should be transparency with the whole election process. This needs to be address in the near future. One thing for sure, the way the City of Los Angeles handled this was criminal!
But for now, please join us in calling the Board of Supervisors this week and asking if they would put Jamiel's Law on this Special Election for March 24, 2009 or on the November, 2009 LA County Election. Let's see if they are willing to openly discuss Jamiel's Law with the Public.
The Governor's Office scheduled the Special Election for Ex-Senator and now Supervisor, Mark Ridley-Thomas' seat for the 26th District, on March 24, 2009. The Mayoral election is March 3, 2009 and now the Special Election is March 24, 2009.
The Board of Supervisors have the power to put Jamiel's Law on this Special Election for March 24, 2009. They also have the power to put Jamiel's Law on the November, 2009, Los Angeles County Election. If they put Jamiel's Law on the ballot, we wouldn't need to gather 275,000 signatures for the LA County November, 2009 election.
If the Supervisors refuse to put Jamiel's Law on the election for November, 2009, we will raise money before we start getting signatures and we'll learn from all the experience we gained.
All we need is three of the five Supervisors to sponsor Jamiel's Law or vote to put Jamiel's Law on the ballot for March 24, 2009 or for November, 2009.
The City Council and the Mayor can also put Jamiel's Law on the ballot. They have until January 14, 2009 to put it on the March 3, 2009 election. It's not likely they'll do anything.
Let's not forget Arnold; he has the power to put Jamiel's Law on this Special March 24, 2009 Election also.

where are you finding a 3/24/09 special election? there is nothing on the registrar's website after the 12/9 Maywood special election (ie nothing into 2009)?????
This option is still an option, but the big question for me is to ask that a COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL body put a measure to change CITY LAW, where it's jurisdiction does not extend- UNLESS the language is changed.
If the language changes, it no longer addresses SPECIAL ORDER 40 (an L.A.P.D.-specific policy). There would have to be a new draft of the language for it to be fitting with the County venue's requirements.
I support the actions to end the city's indefensible inaction and disinterest in REAL steps to reduce and punish criminal behavior, especially where gangs (domestic terrorists) are involved.
I would like know more about the County v. City versions of Jamiel's Law would look like in a comparison of content. I think that has to be determined before we arrive at another procedural problem along the way.
In CD-14- where you can see a lot of examples of inaction from our CM relating to prevention of more gang crime, other than the showmanship throwing of taxpayer money at fledgling non-profits (and we wonder about THAT selection process).
Who when to Lincoln Height Parade Yesterday? Well this year parade the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council and Parade Committee decide who can be on their parade, if you were not important you not in. People who submitted entries they told them they would be in their parade. This was not a community parade. As usual the same old crap, where you in the crow or your out. This is to show how politcal Licoln Height can be.

Althea, if you're still reading, you need to realize something. You need a reality check.
You said you had 75,000 signatures. The City Clerk said you had 18,000.
You accused the City Clerk of tossing away petitions; a very serious crime in itself. But you didn't make copies of the petitions you had.
The burden is on you as the accuser. The burden is on you to explain both the discrepancy in the signature totals, and the unbelievably incompetent practices of your signature campaign.
This discrepancy has reduced your credibility (and this blog's credibility, to which I used to contribute, and am now embarrassed for) to zero. As Walter Moore does not have the courage to speak honestly to the matter, the burden falls on you, the accuser.
I'm very sorry you lost your nephew; it was a tragedy that you felt acutely, and it was a tragedy for all of us. But this tragedy certainly does not give you license to make reckless accusations however you see fit, especially when attempting to inject racial politics into LA's political discourse.

Hey folks this morning a gang injunction was placed against the Florencia gang. This is one of the worst gangs in the city. Guess what?? Father Gang Banger Boyle sent a copy over to the ACLU to give them a heads up to speak in defense of the gang bangers. Father Gang Banger Boyle is also losing a lot of his funding and is this any wonder. His gang bangers who have jobs are still getting arrested for crimes. Seems it doesn't just take a "job" to get these losers straight. How much of our tax dollars given to Father Gang Banger Boyle was used to help these gangs with injunctions?
Countless people are behind Althea and her mission. Proof of that is the number of signatures on the petitions. Despite Joe Mailander's dubious judgement as regards her credibility and that of this blog, she HAS to continue her quest. Countless people pray she prevails for the sake of our neighborhoods and the declining safety of this city.

I am Davi Rodrigues, Northern California Director of Save Our State. I will support any effort to place Jamiels law on any ballot, up to and including visitng the governors office several times to ask him to do it. the 275,000 petition requirement seems high, but we have an idea that may help advertise it. I am sorry to hear your city is so corrupt that you cannot rely on them to administer election processes fairly, but Hal Netkin warned us this was coming many years ago.

I'm with you Joe. The truth hurts some of these readers, but oh well...
Personally, I don't believe in repealing Special Order 40 so that makes some of these people not like me, even if they didn't know that about me before.
But I wish the Shaws the best of luck simply because I admire anyone who takes on the "system". (whether I think they're right or wrong)
Although in general, I do kind of believe in conspiracy theories after living around Los Angeles politics, and I'm sorry to feel that way, I do not believe that the Shaws had any removed, stolen or destroyed. It was incumbent upon them to not just get the amount of signatures they needed, but to get X number of extras too. So, they have to take some of the blame.
But the Mailander-bashing sucks, just for the record. It doesn't help any of you convince me that this distorted law has merit.
Don't get me started on Walter. I really feel like speaking to some of the people who live in homes that have Walter signs. Someone has to warn them. Although I don't foresee a problem here at all.
