Obama Speechwriter Jumps Ship to McCain-Palin

Wendy Button wrote speeches for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. But apparently no more.

Since I started writing speeches more than ten years ago, I have always believed in the Democratic Party. Not anymore. Not after the election of 2008. This transformation has been swift and complete and since I’m a woman writing in the election of 2008, “very emotional."

Button has endorsed John McCain for President. Her motivation was how the Obama campaign treated Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. Like many of us former Democrats Button feels the party has gone to the extreme left. As Button says "Where the Democratic Party was once proud to say it represented Middle Class America, it has now turned into a party of the elite which hates the middle class."

"I can no longer justify what this party has done and can’t dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics. It’s wrong and someone has to say that. And also say that the Democratic Party’s talking points—that Senator John McCain is just four more years of the same and that he’s President Bush—are now just hooker lines that fit a very effective and perhaps wave-winning political argument…doesn’t mean they’re true. After all, he is the only one who’s worked in a bipartisan way on big challenges.

No doubt the Obamabots will figure out a way to trash Button. It just gets curiouser and curiosuer.

Question:

Is it a gaffe when you say what you mean and then the next recant it under political pressure?

I dialed into NPR to hear what former Republican Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleberger, a McCain supporter, said about Sarah Palin.

He said that she wasn't ready to take the reins of the presidency.

MSNBC played it 40 times, CNN 4 times, and Fox never mentioned it but did report on his apology the next day (which might have seemed strange to viewers) and his attack on Obama.

You have to figure that someone who was Secretary of State, unless he became senile, was telling NPR what he truly felt about Palin.

It was actually embarassed for the guy when the next day he found himself spouting the party one-liners, saying that Palin would be quick learner, and falling on his sword.

Michael give me a break. There will be more people voting in this election then in the history of our country. WHY? Because they want CHANGE and they want Obama. Problem is the Republicans are so sneaky everyone is afraid of what is already happening in many states with voting. Why is it that Orange County you can drive through (Republican terriorty) and vote, yet in places like Atlanta there are lines up to 7hours? I will bet this woman got paid $$$$$ for her speech writing and that's the reason. Money is the source of all evil.

In March, 1963, following the march on Washington at which Martin Luther King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech, the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Mississippi printed this headline:

"Washington is clean again with Negro trash removed."

Today the paper endorsed Barak Obama.

Elsewhere, there is a report on the web that only one college newspaper has endorsed John McCain -- the one at the U. of Mississippi.

According to today's ABC tracking poll, the Obama surge was caused not just by the bad economic news, but by Sarah Palin as well. 46% says Palin makes them less likely to support the ticket - up 14 points from a month ago, and double what it was in September. Obama's overall lead is 53-43% among likely voters.

As far as GOTV is concerned, 26% said they had been contacted by the Obama campaign, and 21% by the McCain campaign.

It almost sounds too wierd to be true:

Former Bear Stearns chief risk officer Michael Alix has landed a job in the office of the Federal Reserve charged with assessing the safety and soundness of domestic banking institutions.

Everyone is calling for a change, but I don't think this is what we've been asking for.
