Obama: US Constitution is Flawed; Give Us The Goodies!
The framers of our Constitution were brilliant in that they laid out a very clear line of what the government could and could not and how the people were to be protected from government abuse.
That's not good enough for Barack Obama however as he feels the Constitution did not spell out how to redistribute wealth in America, that is, the working document of our system of government should actually contain the Amazon Wish List of all the government goodies anyone who is here would want. Apparently this one term Senator who votes present more than anything else is now a Constitutional scholar.
The framers knew too well what confiscatory tax policies did to England. As a matter of fact the US didn't have income taxes until the Civil War until they were found unconstitutional (and later restored when the constitution was amended).
If Americans think that they want to vote themselves some goodies, soon they may regret it when the bill for the goodies shows up.

The U.S. Constitution is NOT all that clear, and that's why we have the Supreme Court and why they are kept busy year after year.
And don't forget that we've been redistributing wealth since the progressive income tax was adopted in 1923. Every time the taxation rates are changed within the tax brackets, or when capital gains taxes are changed, we further redistribute the wealth.

CBS News reports:
Good news! John McCain has asked convicted U.S. Senator Ted Stevens to step down.
Sounds like good news: Sarah Palin, a long-time friend of Stevens, may have done the same thing, but according to CBS, he words were less clear.
Speaking of the Constitution, there is no law the prevents a convicted felon from serving in the U.S. Senate. 2/3rds of the senators must remove him if he doesn't resign.

That is an amazing thing. Who was the Congressman from Ohio who was super shady - Trafficant? Wasn't he even trying to run for re-election from jail?
Actually Palin was a protege of Stevens but she turned on him when she found he was shady. That's one of the reasons some of the Repugs in AK don't like her.

Rich Lowry, editor of the conservative National Review, writes that McCain could still win the election, but it would be in spite of himself.
He writes that if Republicans are laying blame for the 2008 race, they should lay it on John McCain, paradoxically the best and worst candidate they could have fielded.
McCain’s appeal was that he was a maverick, “or, in a less exalted formulation, a gadfly.”
Once McCain stopped making “snarky banter about his own party,” the media abandoned him. Gadflies are natural loners, so McCain had no fundraisers or loyalists.
He was forced to hire ex-Bushies who botched his appeal. Above all, McCain lacked domestic policy chops, beyond pet issues like earmarks.

The reason for the stock market jump is anticipation of a Fed rate cut.

I would love have a conversation with Sarah Palin about the U.S. constitution, I wonder if Sarah Palin knows who wrote the original Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
I guess Higby forgets that we have made many amendments to the original "Un-Flawed" constitution, some as recently as the Twenty-seventh Amendment in 1992?
Even authors of the Constitution were aware that changes would be necessary, but you betcha.....Higby like Sarah Palin needs a little more skoolin on the constitution.

The Obama campaign was banking on heavy early voting.
From Pew Research:
Early voters favor Obama 53-34%.
Among those who say they will still vote early, Obama leads 56-37%
Obama leads in the 15battleground states 53-35%.
Obama leads in Republican states 47-43%.
Obama leads in all age categories.
McCain leads among white men 46-42%, but Obama leads among white women 45-43%.
Obama leads in all income categories.

Within the last couple of days there have been reports about McCain officials complaining that Palin has "gone rogue."
I first suspected it when made that disasterous appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was like she couldn't resist the attention despite the effect it would have on the campaign.
Today at a Tampa rally she went on and on about the $150,000 wardrobe, as if this was of interest to listeners, essentially blaming the Republican National Committee for everything.
Showing that the dust up affected her, and wasn't just a small matter, she went out of her way to describe what she was wearing and that she bought it herself.
CNN confirmed with senior adviser to the McCain campaign that the comments about her wardrobe "were not the remarks we sent to her plane this morning."
Palin gone rogue?
