Your Homework for Tonight

As a public service, in an effort to see how much you are learning from reading Mayor Sam, and to test the validity of your ability to argue and further develop your positions, as your teacher, I am assigning you the following homework, due tonight:

1. Explain how Daily Kos, Salon, the New York Times, Matt Damon, Lindsay Lohan, Mrs. Lindsay Lohan and Pam Anderson are unbiased news sources when it comes to Sarah Palin.

2. Give us a full explanation of how Zuma Dogg actually costs the City money/wastes time with a complete accounting. Compare and contrast this to the time wasted by Council Members who are 1) Tardy 2) Absent 3) Asleep (well that's only one CM we know of) 4) Crafting resolutions against the War in Iraq, endorsing Obama and declaring global warming a "really bad thing" 5) photo ops and 6) Singing songs on Fridays.

Extra Credit: Send Zuma Dogg some PayPal love.

Sad attempt to scare up angry hits, fat man, comparing a homeless and mentally ill public nuisance (with a fan base of a handful like him) with elected officials.

You, Joseph Mailander who piped up on last thread from "retirement" to support this waste of taxdollars and mental energy are clearly desperate because people are NOT paying attention to the rantings of a few angry losers with no other way to get attention than commander public air time.

You're trying to fan him into an issue because other than the bloggers who post here, everyone knows he's an embarrassment and waste of time and money. Ha-Ha, gotcha.

That really ticks you off that someone would suggest that ZD, blasting through HOURS of public comment is wasting taxpayers money.

What part don't you understand?

We PAY those people to do city business -- to run our government. We pay them WELL -- too well, in most cases.

Here's a concept. Let's pretend it's any other commodity that taxpayers' pay for than "public comment" time when 30 paid employees of the city (who have more to do than sit in council session) have to stare into space on our $$$$ for extra hours every week while ZD "performs." Lets see how far you're willing to bend over backwards and kiss away what little intellectual integrity you may have ever had for a "friend" who amuses you, simply because he tweaks the toenails of the power structure.

Let's say it was, oh "trash pickup" for example.

Let's say ZUMA DRUG puts 40 BARRELS of trash outside his non-existent home, when everyone else just put one.

Okay by you? Of course it is.

Let's say he gets to park 30 CARS on the street he doesn't live on, and everyone else just has one.

Let's say he hooks a hose up to the drinking fountain at the public park and uses it to open a private label bottled water franchise.

Better yet, let's say he calls 911 EVERY time he hears a noise outside his non-existent front door, sometimes 20 times a night -- when most people won't call for a real burglary unless someone's still in the house.

Okay by you? Okay to horde time paid for by working stiffs' taxes, all into one lunatic's sphere of non-influence?

Of course it is.

The time we pay our elected officials for is very costly, and it shouldn't become a part of the idiotic game of "I want to stretch my '15 seconds on infamy' into hours every week at City Council."

If Councilmember's waste time - don't do their jobs, we have RECOURSE. We can vote against them. We can kick their behinds to the curb. Or, not. That's on us -- either way.

We have no recourse against a useless bag o' dogg crap who pisses and moans away hours of the time we pay city officials for, every damn week, under the perverted and heretical belief that it's "free speech".

A blathering moron who couldn't pass an American Civics class with an open book claims 100 times what the average hard working stiff out here gets in City Council face time and you continue to defend him?

Yes, this is the "Mayor Sam" I remember . . the one who "vouched" for Tony Villar's

80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES

in CD14 -- simply because another blogger who befriended him at the time wanted to spin it for his boss.

Must be REALLY lonely in there to have to "buy" friends with irrational support, Higby.

UNBELIEVABLE THAT DUMB ASS ZUMA WOULD ACTUALLY ENDORSE BITTER BERNIE. TYPICAL. ZUMA REALLY DOESN'T HAVE A FOLLOWING CITYWIDE HE JUST THINKS HE DOES. NO ONE CARES WHAT HE SAYS BECAUSE SADLY EVEN THE PEOPLE WHO TELL HIM HI THINK HE'S A IMMATURE CLOWN THAT NEVER GREW UP. VERY PATHETIC THAT AT COMMUNITY MEETINGS EVERYONE MAKES FUN OF HIM. ZUMA COULD HAVE REALLY SHAKEN THIS CITY UP BUT ALL HE'S DONE IS PISSED OFF PEOPLE WHO USE TO SUPPORT HIM AND WASTE THE TIME OF COUNCIL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SPEAKING OUT.

Haikula: I wanted to save you from being the ONLY posts on this subject.

Mayor Sam: We've already established the fact that this isn't about establishing credible arguments and stating facts. It's about creating hits.

Zumma Dog doesn't cost the city any extra money with his adolescent ramblings. Unlike children who can cry, whine, and irritate seemingly forever, ZD is limited to 2 minutes. That really isn't much. If he wants to take the time to march down to City Hall and act silly for 2 minutes in a futile cry for attention, then it's more his problem that anyone who has to listen to him.

Regarding the sources cited that slam Mayor Sam's favorite VP candidate, don't focus so much on who is publishing the information, but whether or not it's true. I'm not so much concerned with publications that state an opinion, but those that state facts.

Either Palin did or did not visit Ireland or Iraq, or whether or not she support the Bridge to Nowhere until the feds denied funding, or whether or not she spoke words of support to the group that wants Alaska to leave the United States of America are factual situations.

Regardless of where it's printed, it either true or false. If it's false, I'm sure we'll hear from the campaign.

This isn't the first time that you've mentioned that the City Council endorsed Obama.

It would be illegal for them to do so, and I can't find it in the City Council's records, so what in the world are you talking about, or is Karl Rove writing this stuff for you?

5:42/8:19: If ONLY mutt dogg and his matted dowd and the rest of the visitors from lands far, far away were limited to 2 mins. / day. that IS AN EXCELLENT SUGGESTION COUNCIL SHOULD ENFORCE.

Unfortunately these losers get 2 mins per subject upto 5-6 mins/ day, and if you can start to add that high think how much it costs per day and week and month. Before zuma mutt arrived there were only one-two other regulars and none as rude and obsessed with wasting every possible minute.

These oddballs use up all their time and are ruder, nastier and irrelevant than any were before. Crazy mutt is all about PR and he knows himself he's used by people "who'd walk over my dead body the next day," he says in his blog.

Yeah, we have sympathy for the mentally ill -- but they shouldn't be in City Hall ranting while we're paying all those electeds and support and mainenance workers that another poster tallies up so well.

Zuma mutt has lost even the few fans he had once, because they see that when they use him to peddle their issues, the issue becomes non grata, like the messenger. HE's also too dumb not to be totally transparent about who's using him, so they're outed anyway.

Higby and Haikula, Valley Dolt and the other bloggers here, your days of generating attention for your blog by using crazy mutt are done, if they ever happened -- he's used up way more than 15 minutes of fame and he's done with a barbecue fork. You know it and you're desperately trying to justify his waste of our time and money. If you truly don't see him as a waste of time and money and detriment to real public commenters, you're even dumber than you sound when you argue about Palin/Obama, the MTA and anything else. D-O-N-E.

8:09 no, actually I was making a joke about the Council endorsing Obama, however if you're serious and members of the Council have even broached the idea of somehow going around state law and endorsing Obama, that brings concern. I really doubt they would try, at least I doubt Rosendahl would.

Since there can't be a rule that prohibits Zumma Dog, by name, from enjoying the same rights as other people who want to address the City Council, restraints have to be imposed on everyone equally, and because that includes rational people with legitimate problems, comments, and suggestions, the only choice is to let him speak, or whatever it is that he does.

I haven't heard anyone explain how his speaking costs the City money. The people who are there get paid a salary. They aren't getting paid by the minute.

In terms of cost, what's difference whether gets up and squeals for 2 minutes several times during a meeting, or a Nobel Prize winner gets the same amount of times and uses her time to make a series of positive suggestions?

8:49 your obsession with Zuma Dogg is bordering on mental illness.

Anyway, Zuma Dogg gets at most 6 minutes each day. Assuming about 100 Council meetings and figuring he makes about 75% of them (at most) that's less than eight hours a year. Tell me any council member wastes less time than in a week.

When you have a Mayor who is only putting in about 10% of the time allotted on the job (source being a LIBERAL newspaper like the LA Weekly) you have little room to criticize a citizen who is exercising his given rights AND is researching city issues beyond that of the MSM or really any other blogger.

I don't always agree with Zuma nor do I always approve of his actions. However your obsession with him is bizarre.

Hey fat boy you forgot to include Kim Kardasian and Paris Hilton's opionion of Governor Gidget, because that is what is really important to keep the dumb ass voters focused on.

Zuma would be most effective if he did more research and was more creative in his delivery other than yelling. He will get much further by offering intelligent and measured comment.

The City NEEDS a good investigative reporter but it takes a lot of digging to be such a good reporter. Does Zuma have it? Sometimes there is a flash of brilliance and other times it is obscured by theatrics.

8:54 pm: Great one! I think we said hello in city hall a few weeks ago.

thanks to SEVERAL, yes I can use the word, SEVERAL people who actually donated to Zuma Dogg, today, via the paypal link on the upper right hand of this blog.

AND FIRST TIME PAYPALERS!!! So that makes it even sweeter. AND, some other amazing people stepped up last week and allowed me to make it through last week.

SO I WILL FOR SURE BE SEEING EVERYONE AT THE COUNCIL MEETING ON TUESDAY MORNING!

AND I WILL DEDICATING ALL MY TIME AND EFFORT OUTSIDE COUNCIL TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE REMEMBERS TO LOOK FOR THE "SUPERVISORS" ELECTION ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT (BECAUSE IT IS FAR DOWN ON THE BALLOT) --

AND VOTE BERNARD PARKS FOR BOARD OF COUNTY SUPERVISOR!!!

I'm gonna relax and re-couperate from a hellava day, that ends truiumphantly with enough paypal to keep me going for most of the week and will start up in the morning.

And I want everyone who was worried about me, who was tapped out and would have liked to have helped...that some other folks stepped up, this time! Which makes your previous investment extend even longer. Cause without the people from last week...I wouldn't be blogging this week.

So, thanks to everyone...BIG, FUN things ahead...and now I will be moving ahead with them, instead of sitting in my car, stuck!

AND MAYOR SAM...THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE PAYPAL MENTION!!! IT REALLY HELPED! This is the first time there has been momentum at this level...and to everyone who helps support me...after this weekend...DON'T WORRY...IT'S HUGE...And Mayor Sam and LA Daily Blog alone can help make an impact this election season in a way blogs never have before.

Blogs weren't this big even last year (A LOT of new readers). AND WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION (which blogs weren't as big last time) MORE GRASSROOTS VOTERS WILL BE AT THE POLLS TO COMBAT THE SHADY PROFESSIONAL VOTERS THE VILLARAIOGSA SIDE WILL BE BACKING.

And again...I know folks are disappointed that the stuff in Washington didn't go as planned...but look what the Shaw's did -- getting on over 20 radio stations at the national level...

GRASS ROOTS BABY!!! IT'S THE NEW POLITICAL MACHINE!

KEEP SPINNING! You've spun yourself into a meaningless rut. IT'S OVER! Either hop on board, or get steamrolled by the community.

#1 Who Wrote These Words?

"There have been 11 recessions since the Great Depression. And we’re nowhere close to being in the 12th one now. This isn’t just a matter of opinion.

This would suggest that anyone who says we’re in a recession, or heading into one — especially the worst one since the Great Depression — is making up his own private definition of “recession.” And probably for his own political purposes.

McCain campaign adviser and former U.S. senator Phil Gramm was right in July when he said that our current state “is a mental recession.” Maybe he was out of line when he added that the United States has become “a nation of whiners.” But when it comes to the economy, we have surely become a nation of exaggerators.Whatever the political outcome this year, hopefully this will prove to be yet another instance of that iron law of economics and markets: The sentiment of the majority is always wrong at key turning points. And the majority is plenty pessimistic right now. That suggests that we’re on the brink not of recession, but of accelerating prosperity.

Answer: Donald Luskin, a California financial analyst and a key economic advisor to, um, John McCain.

#2 When did he publish them?

Answer: Yesterday, in The Washington Post. In other words, they were put into type just a few hours before news of the Wall Street meltdown broke.

All this via the wonderful blog of my USC colleague and office suite-neighbor, Jon Taplin.

This sequence of financial failings spells pretty bad news for all of us. And most likely, for years to come. It's a very high price to pay to experience the evaporation of the McCain campaign. His entire strategy, since the Palin Resurrection, was to do everything and literally anything, no matter how cheap and sordid, to deflect the national conversation away from the sour topics of the war and the economy. I think it it safe to say that this phase of the campaign is now officially over.

There's no more lipstick to blot.

Yeah but it was Bernard Parks himself who said in the L.A. Times (5/22/06) : "his act lost its effectiveness after his debut. The legitimacy of the issue is being lost in the theatrics"

Is Zuma Park's court jester now?
Is this a joke or what?
