Off duty sheriff deputy killed in drive-by shooting in Cypress Park
From the Los Angeles Times.
Juan Abel Escalante, a 27-year-old father of three who worked at the Men's Central Jail, is killed in a drive-by shooting in an area that has been troubled by gang feuds.
The shooting occurred at 5:45 a.m. in the 3400 block of Thorpe Avenue, and the deputy died at the scene, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Chris Gomez.
No further details were released because of the ongoing investigation by police and sheriff's investigators. "We don't want to release any information right now that will interfere with that investigation," Gomez said.
Report on KFWB AM 980 states that the deputy may have been on his way to work when the shooting took place.
"We have no information about the suspect," said LAPD Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz. "The best detectives in our Police Department are handling this case."
A neighbor, Gloria Ruiz, said that her son and the deputy grew up together and had both served in Iraq. She said he had a strict upbringing and his mother "would gleam whenever he had good grades."
Bratton described the area as a historically troubled one because of a feud between the gangs in the Cypress Park and Glassell Park areas, but said that it had been quiet in recent months after an LAPD raid earlier this year.
Both LAPD Chief Bratton and Sheriff Lee Baca are on the scene. They describe the deputy as a two-year member of the department who was assigned to the counties detention system.
Our prayers go out to the LASD and the family of the fallen deputy.

I hope everyone read about Mexico's Chief Federale getting busted in W. Covina with $500K in his pocket...drug money laundering. His wife lives in W. Covina! Why doesn't David K. do a little sleuthing and trace the Mexico/L.A. corruption to the mayor and city council??? We KNOW they are all complicit! We KNOW they are protecting Mexican drug dealers and gangbangers!
How many more of our brave young police officers have to die before we indict the gang of 15 plus 1 in city hall???? How many more Jamiel Shaw's and Tony Bologna and sons do we have to sacrifice before the gang of 15 plus 1 is prosecuted and put away for life???
We need to go after Villar and Bratton with torches and clubs! We need to throw them out of our city! And the same goes for the gang of 15! ALL OF THEM!!!!
THIS IS WAR!!! L.A. IS A SANCTUARY CITY AND VILLAR AND BRATTON ARE ALLOWING MEXICO'S PARA MILITARIES, POLICE, DRUG CARTELS, AND GANGBANGERS CONTROL OUR STREETS! HOW MUCH ARE THEY GETTING IN KICKBACKS???? WHO ARE THEY GIVING FAVORS TO??? THEY ARE ALL AGENTS OF THE CORRUPTION OF MEXICO!!!!

Your passion is understood but this kind of statement is just asking for ridicule. The opposition loves these things. And really, suppose you literally did do all as described. WHO would be in jail?
The trick here is that the real work to get the bums out is hard and ongoing, and that is the buffer zone that protects them. Lots of people want quick solutions like the quoted one above and it's not going to happen.
Campaign against them. Spread news to the uninformed. Enlighten the naive. SHOW what they have done, each one, example by example, to people. Get people, one by one, family by family, and group by group, informed and then ready to go out and VOTE on election day.
This is the thing that will hurt incumbents and it takes work. They depend on people fizzling out and dropping out in the struggle.
If this sounds too traditional, try another way, but you can predict certain outcomes for your choices.
Go ahead and make your choices for action.
No matter what, We all want this to situation to change.

PICO RIVERA - One man was injured Friday afternoon when alleged gang members armed with an assault rifle and a handgun walked up to a front yard and opened fire, sheriff's officials said Friday.
Lt. William Cicchillo said three adults and one juvenile were later arrested. He said deputies also recovered two handguns and an assault rifle.
The shooting broke out at 2:26 p.m. in the 9500 block of Woodhue Street.
Sgt. Mark Bailey of the sheriff's gang unit said three men were standing in a front yard of a home when two men approached and fired numerous rounds. One man was struck. The shooters then took off running. Bailey said the three victims weren't gang members. County Fire Inspector Ron Haralson said the wounded man had minor injuries to the lip and was taken to a local hospital.
Several men were seen running in the San Gabriel Riverbed.
Cicchillo said one man was found in the riverbed while a police dog discovered three others hiding in a vacant house on Woodhue Street and Pico Vista Road. Three were being booked at the sheriff's Pico Rivera Station on Friday night while the fourth was still being interviewed.

The victim's mother "would gleam whenever he had good grades." What does that mean?
12:31 = braindead disciple of Doug McIntyre. "We need to go after Villar and Bratton with torches and clubs!" Take your revolutionary talk, clubs and dentures to Ron Kaye's revolution where they belong.
This moron throws in the San Francisco Balogna case with Jamiel Shaw, just like McIntyre, the KKFI people and other ratings-driven wackos teach them.
Hey, Estupidos: Bratton, Antonio and the local electeds have nothing to do with S F and the Balognas. Your rambling babblings just confirm that it WOULD however make sense to have a state policy to ID'ing and jailing or deporting illegal felons. (Only negative to deportation is: they come right back across the border, so it's less of a punishment than jail -- which however requires huge amounts of our money, whereas freeing the jails of illegal felons would mean we'd have the money to treat our legal resident criminals much more humanely. Over half of them have substance abuse problems and could be treated more cheaply and humanely than keeping them in the current jail conditions.
BUT the way to clear our our jails of illegal felons isn't what your right-wing hero DA Steve Cooley's been doing: plea-bargaining them out, over and over, after a few months. HE's the one who got Pedro Espinoza out of jail, despite a long, long rap sheet known to his office, the Sheriff's dept. (which oversees the jails and damn well better know who their guests are), just because Espinoza SAID he's a citizen. Gee, if only we could all get off felonies so easily.
Cooley also let out the husband who was in jail for trying to murder his wife, who had a restraining order on him, but wasn't told the husband was let out anyway and was murdered right away upon the husband's release -- just like Espinoza killed Jamiel. But Cooley lied to the public and hid this and other serious fu-k-ups from the public until AFTER the recent election, because "he had a head cold and didnt' get around to it."
Get your priorities and laws and jurisdictions straight, you right- wing idiots. You're barking up the tree to a dead end, and have dragged the Shaws with you -- not to mention, in the company of wacko Walter and vile Zuma Dogg, who've trashed the Mayor and people who could have helped them so scurrilously, you've tainted the poor Shaws by the slimy association. Leave them alone to get rational representation and assistance.

Five bucks saya the Mayor will have the same comment about this that he had about Drew Street......nothing.

Of course Mayor VillaBabosa can't make the connection between sanctuary city and mexican street gangs.
The Glassell Park (Drew street) gang mentioned in the Los Angeles times story is a gang of mostly by illegal aliens from Mexico.

When will the legal residents of the L.A. area get sick at tired of the growing social problems caused by the millions of illegal aliens.

3:26pm: Mayor Tony, your identity was revealed by admitting you didn't know what could be meant by saying the mother "would gleam" because, first, you don't know what good grades were about, and thus, nothing there for anyone to gleam about.

Los Angeles is becoming another Tijuana and Cuidad Juarez, thanks to it's sanctuary city status.
Now police are being assassinated by mexican street gangs, is there any other area in the country where there are this many gang shootings or where the cops are involved in gun battles with street gangs?
Remeber the gun battle of cops with a gang member on the infamous Drew Street in Glassel Park area?
Time to start mass deporation and recall the Mayor and City Council members.

WAtch that gang banger cholo Mayor have a photo op with the family. Please someone kick his sorry ass and make him a man. Stop blaming BRATTON for the illegals. AS a Domestic Violence Counselor I will tell you and you'll hate to hear it but Special Issue 40 DOES GO AFTER ILLEGAL GANG BANGERS. GOT IT. We need it in place because when there are Domestic Violence calls or victims of felonies who are ILLEGAL without Special Oder 40 they would NOT REPORT THE CRIME. The bad guys would win. Picture this, no special order 40 and all the violent criminals, robbers, murderers, home invaders would all go rampant knowing that this segment of LA WOULD NOT REPORT OR BE AFRAID TO CALL. So educate yourselves before sprewing about Special Issue 40.

Am I wrong or didn't the Daily News with the new Mecha Editor Carolina Garcia NOT do this story about this officer being killed in today's paper? I haven't seen a word. Can someone confirm?

Hey 8:52, don't you think it would be better if this culture of domestic violence were simply transplanted back to where it came from?

Villaraigosa is going to have a press conf. at Ramon Garcia park touting its success against gangs giving them a place to go until midnight. His dumb ass should do the press conf. at Cypress Park and ask himself is it really working with a deputy sheriff is gunned down in front of his own home. Maybe he should change the name of Summer Night Lights to Early Morning. His programs for the summer is causing more problems cause gang bangers are hanging out with regular kids intimindating them and there's no one at these parks to help them.

!!Newsflash for 2:13!!
Pico Rivera is not part of Los Angeles. It is a city of it's own. Our Mayor, Council members or LAPD have no jurisdiction there either. It's the sheriff's turf.
How can any of you be effective activists when you don't even know the boundaries of the City and you can't get it through your heads that Los Angeles government isn't the place to start with illegal immigration?
I don't remember this blog being so anti-illegal until Antonio was elected. The first time he did something you didn't like, it was all about the bad, bad Mexicans.
It's pretty sickening. Outsiders who read this are disgusted. As am I.
Amnesty for all!

Abel,
When I heard your name on T.V. I thought it was a coincidence. Then I saw your picture and I was in disbelief. For years I've wondered whatever happened to Juan and Christian and Ruby and Steph. Even Noel (Nelson! Remember?). You were always hilarious and I knew your personality would take you far. You probably accomplished more than most of us. Maybe not Jerel. I wouldn't be surprised if he's won the Nobel Prize for something in physics by now. Abel, I'm very proud to hear how well you lived your life. It grieves me, as I'm sure it grieves all your childhood friends to hear of your passing. My prayers are with your family. Especially your children. I'm sure they're great kids just like you were.
You are missed.
Lori
