Did this memo cost the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council their meeting place??
Some would say that this is the ending befitting the "Era of Galaviz" on the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council.
According to community sources, school officials at Lincoln High School have told Elena Popp, President-Elect of the LHNC that the school would no longer host meetings of the LHNC.
According to community sources, school officials at Lincoln High School have told Elena Popp, President-Elect of the LHNC that the school would no longer host meetings of the LHNC.
Pressure and reaction to the memo by Lincoln High School Facilty Member Vera Padilla are cited as the main reason for the school's decision.
The installation of the new LHNC was to have taken place on August 7 but do to the decision by Lincoln High School officials, the meeting was postpone pending relocation.
Meanwhile, out-going President David Galaviz send this e-mail on his future plans.
I hope this e-mail finds you well. I am writing to inform you of changes that are occuring here at USC. As you may know, the University is in process of seeking a replacement for Carolyn Webb de Macias, who recently retired as Vice President of External Relations. In addition, the University is also seeking to replace Kay Song, who also retired after serving USC as Vice President of Civic and Community Relations. Dr. Song is currently serving as Senior Advisor to Mayor Villaraigosa. I was extremely fortunate to work and learn from both Kay and Carolyn.
Throughout this transition, I have been presented with an opportunity to transition into a newly created "Executive Director of Local Government Relations" position here at USC. I have accepted this offer and I am in the process of transitioning into this new position. My new role will be to represent the University in issues before the City and County of Los Angeles. It is also my understanding that this is the first time this type of position has been created at USC, so this is a great opportunity to do something from the very start, and create a new job and role from scratch.
A search for a new Outreach Director for the Health Sciences Campus will begin soon. In the meantime, I will continue to work with you all until a new director is named. In addition, I am also very happy (and sorry) to report that Guillermo Guereque, who has been with my office for the past five years, is also leaving USC. He recently completed his Dual Masters' Degree and has accepted a new position with the Toyota Corporation. His position will also be available soon.
I want to thank you all for the time we have spent working together for our community. My e-mail and voicemail will remain the same.
Hope to see you all soon.
David

No, this is the ghost of Hugo Pacheco, Robert Verga and Manny Ramirez coming back once again.
Anonymous said:
So, let me get this straight. USC creates a new position for this douche, and he apparently, left the NC in shambles, even though nothing even occured under Pacheco the Panoche.
Anonymous said:
What sucks is that newly elected board members Jose Aguilar and Robert Vega have been bought and sold lock, stock and barrel by Galaviz.
They are his lapdogs and pawns nothing less.

More spin from Steve Lampson Sayonara - Thanks for cleaning up the Lincoln Heights Chamber. Oh, I mean for leaving it in shambles. They are just picking themselves off the deck because of you.
Anonymous said:
More spin from the keyboard warriors - Jose (I AM ON 3 NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS, AND I WRITE FOR A "COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER, BUT I don't spin and I don't need to practice what I preach).
Hugo Panoche - you can usually find me sniveling in the background with my videocamera and notebook, trying to tilt at my windmills.
Manny Rodriguez - Just a general tool. Against government spending, but wants THE LOCALS TO HELP HIM PURCHASE BUILDINGS BELOW COST!!
Robert Verga - I will go to the first meetings, then quit like a whiny little wuss.
Anonymous said:
Our neighborhood council was sooo much better under Hugo Pacheco - at least there was a possibility that fistfights would break out, and Robert Pacheco would quit at least every other meeting.
Anonymous said:
So, Gala-douche gets a better position with a much higher profile, and you keyboard warriors are still here blogging away hiding behind your computers, typing with one hand, fantasizing about him and other losers.

Jose Aguilar and Hugo Pacheco = Property of David Gala-loser.
You must be stupid, he kept you both out of the council and kept you both off the CRA local PAC.
He got Aguilar to cry uncle so many times, that Aguilar finally gave up and stopped attending the meeting.
The only crazy left on that board is Felititas "foot face" Acostas, but she is so marginalized, no one pays any attention to her.
Yes, that Felicitas fired from three jobs:
- WHITE MEMORIAL- FIRED - Check
- ELA COMMUNITY CORPORATION - CHECK
- NEIGHBORHOOD MUSIC SCHOOL - CHECK, CHECK, CHECK.

At least she had a job, unlike Hugo Pacheco who doesn't work and is supported by his wife, who works for. . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . USC!!!!!!!!
She talks all this about Galaviz, but she WORKS FOR HIS BOSSES!!!
Anonymous said:
So, the truth is told - Hugo Pacheco lives in cahoots-ville with Galaviz. What a charade this is!!!!!
This proves the community contention that Pacheco and Aguilar have been bought and sold by Galaviz

Gala-dope has made Pacheco the Panoche and Aguilar cry uncle, walks away with a new gig, and all they can do is post anonymously.

LOSERS LOSERS LOSERS.....
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE FOR THE LOCAL BUINESSES HERE.
When the feds are done with rockys investigations they should drive north on broadway to L.H.Ts just down the street from them and walk up that so called chamber office and demand to look at those 2 set of books.
Like steve lambson exposed them of having.

I walked out of my 3rd floor office the other day, that idiot Zuma Homeless guy was walking around. Gala-dope (who is friends with the Mayor FYI), walked by at the same time.
In a game of chicken, Zuma blinked and moved and let Gala-turd walked on by. Galaviz walked by our beloved zuma like he was a statue.
Probably because Zuma did not have his videocamera with him. Please donate to paypal so he can get some fundage going to pay for his gas, camera, etc.
He can be like Aguilar and Pacheco the Panoche, and his wife and be bought and paid for by Galaturd.

As a Latino I'm embarrassed after reading all these comments. I now know why Latinos will always beat each other up verbally and not get anything done. There are so many egos, jealousy, insecurities in these communities that most of their time is spent fighting. Nothing gets done for the youth or seniors. Its unfortunate that Latinos can't get along for the common good of their neighborhoods. On some of the NC's the members are more concerned with grandstanding, talking endlessly, fighting and wasting precious time. Its an embarrassement to all of us when you act like a bunch of uneducated, no class morons. It all goes back to how you have been raised by your mother. Usually the ones with major issues shine the most. Sadly, the communities suffer tremendously because of all these egos.

Out of 16 comments posted, only the first comment was a direct response to the thread's title.
And what are the rest about?
Personal attacks, of course. Just put "Lincoln Heights" in the title and this is the Pavlovian response.
As a Latino, I have seen this for as long as I can remember when other Latinos try to make some progress in ANYTHING, it's in schools, business, and, obviously, politics.
But it satisfies the needs of those who take the path to belittle persons of opposing viewpoints instead of addressing any real issues and ideas. It just never changes for some.
And the poster in City Hall is not above it. He speaks for the quality chosen for those guys, but they have an excuse, they ARE politicians- to the core- even if only on staff.
Next door in CD 14

All you keyboard wankers do is attack, attack, attack. You use rumor and inuendo and tell people they are facts.
The minute someone attacks you or your friends -then you scream, oh no, how could anyone do this!?!?
You reap what you sow. Especially you red spot. You start all this crap.
You are the reason this blog went down the stink hole.

You are the same gentleman (since we are trying to be civil here now), that show up with videocameras to meetings to tape everyone, but the minute someone shows up with a videocamera to tape you, you run and hide.
DON"T THROW ROCKS, if you don't like people throwing them back at you.
And trust me, if others wanted to throw rocks, they can throw boulders at you.
Nothing wrong with pointing out the facts, or when someone is wrong, but hold yourselves to the same standards you want others to have.

10:47 - Get it right - even the damn topic was a personal attack.
I also live in CD 14 (by Matthews). I know Galaviz and what is reported here about him is so untrue it is pathetic. We played sports against each other in high school and are not the best of friends, but are cordial (I'm a rough rider and he is a Salesian Boy).
I don't know the other folks being attacked, but if they started this trash, then they deserve it.

Hey 10:46 & 10:47 - Hey Pollyana grow a pair. ALL OF THE POSTS, ON EVERY SINGLE LINK HERE IS RELATED TO A PERSONAL POST.
It ain't just Lincoln Heights, CD 14 or areas with Latinos, it is anything that Mayor Sam and Red Spot report.

OMG, that memo is linked to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the start of the Iraqi War, the War of 1812, and the RFK, MLK and JFK assassinations.
Anonymous said:
Whoa, I seem to be way lost. Was this post about a NC and how they lost a meeting place? If so, then too much CD 14 politics got in the way and I'm not sure how any of these posts relate.
What is it about that memo that would have made the school cancel their election or take away their meeting place?
In my opinion, this NC has bigger problems. Why the HELL is any NC giving so much money to a school? (I suppose that is where all those CD-14 people come into play-the ones that the rest of us have never heard of) Doesn't Lincoln Heights have any planning and land use issues to work on? Because that cost so much to work on what with all that outreach, copies, community meetings based on issues, etc. that I can't imagine giving money to schools. Is that the ONLY school within their boundaries or something?
Anonymous said:
You can really see the difference between other blogs and the threads they post. There's no personal attacks on other people's opinions but the issue. Here on this website its not about the issue but all personal attacks. Hate to say it but I guarantee the ones posting all the negative crap are Latinos. They can't get along with eachother. Someone does all the hard work and sure enough you'll see others trying to take the credit. Its unfortunate Latinos have to behave so immaturely. AND NO it doesn't happen on other blogs that are African American, Asian or White Valley Republican. go see for yourself.

To 2:36 -
You're so full of BS, I'm speechless. (I think I just responded to you on another thread.) If you truly believe that, then you don't really go to other blogs. Try the ACLU blogs. Go to some open political forums with people who have been posting together for years. Pick a political topic and go debate away. You'll get badly beaten with your logic, but I'd go watch it.
See, I think that "your" exact tone and content is what chases intelligent, fun bloggers away from here. You can't stand to debate; you would rather just bash. That's how I know you would lose and that's how I know that you haven't read enough blogs to comment.
Are you a paid blogger? I bet you get paid to agitate, don't you...

The original meetings were held at the highly accesible and centrally located Lincoln Heights Senior Center. The First Prez Oscar, who founded a non-profit with the same name as the LHNC, refused to pay the Senior Center for staying open late. So they moved their meetings. Since outreach is a key purpose of the whole NC, why not hold the LHNC meetings on a rotating basis on each of the 7 sub-areas. By the way, we all know Pacheco cost Lampson the CD 1 election against Reyes after turning on his election campaign. If we could just heal the divide, we could elect Frank Wada as the next LHNC president. A compromise everyone from the neighborhood could live with and be proud of.
Anonymous said:
459 - oh what a load of pure BS.
The first meetings were indeed held at the Senior Citizens Center. Things were good until Pacheco, Vega, Sampsin, Covarubias and Rodriguez showed up.
Once they showed up it all went to hell.
Don't buy there bs about Oscar, they hated him with a passion. When Gala-idiot showed up and ran them out of town, they turned their attention to him.
Then he turned and bought all of them and holds them in his pocket when he needs them. He OWNS THEM, THE EL SERENO NC, Boyle Heights NC and Adelante Eastside.
Don't buy their BS about anything, he owns them. They need shirts that say property of that idiot.

What this threat and blog show is that there isn't any real and honest representation for the residents of Lincoln Heights.
It doesn't matter who's side you are on in the dispute. All parties are to blame because they let personal issues cloud their real purpose-to give the neighborhood and the businesses true representation. Attack away all you want-at the end of the day, you know it is true.
The Chamber and the LHNC do absolutely nothing for the neighborhood. Have not done a single good thing in years. Both need to be disbanded.

You obviously are not clued in to all the accomplishments of the last board of the LHNC.
You obviously don't know the disaster the LHNC was when Hugo and his cronies were part of the board.
So get a clue before you comment. Get some facts before you open that trap of yours you call a mouth.

Now you've hurt my feelings. As the mostly honest and sporadically real representative of my area in Lincoln Heights, I feel your blanket characterization of the membership of said body is just so mean. I'm wounded deeply on the inside.
Actually, this whole discussion is a laugh. I'm so glad someone told me about this silly little blog. Ranting and raving about NCs with miniscule budgets and irrelevant amounts of political power (and that goes for every NC in LA.) People talking about embezzlement....how the hell do you embezzle from a budget that small? What, embezzle a quarter of the budget and I might have enough money to buy myself lunch once/month?
Such a cute little blog though, I can't believe people get so riled up abut such non-issues.
Actually, you all remind me of a bunch of kids in junior high school fighting over their Dungeons and Dragons game like it has some relevance or importance to the real world. Little nicknames for each other, quibbling over details no one else even cares about, inability to socialize outside of your little world.....funny to listen for a few moments, but ultimately a little sad and pathetic.
Well, time to get back to representing my area of Lincoln Heights. Feel free to stop by my office and discuss these issues to me in person (if you can figure out who I am) since all this blogging seems sort of silly. And don't you all worry, I'll stay vigilant and make sure no one embezzles enough money from the LHNC to buy a McDonald's Happy Meal (which would be a significant part of the yearly budget.)

I hate to burst your bubbles, but as someone who has the unfortunate luck to have to work and associate themself with both organizations, and folks from both sides of these personal attacks, for the past 6 years, I know exactly what they have and have not done in that time.
I might allow that the LHNC has done a tad more than the Chamber recently, the point is when you still only have 12 to 20 people showing up for NC meetings, you are not doing your job or representing your area of the community.
But keep building your false image up and stroking that ego of yours if it helps you sleep at night.

How grand that would be....

What is the purpose of a Neighborhood Council?
It is to advice a Councilman as to their Neighborhood Needs.
Not to stuff their faces with food bought by taxpayer money.
Not to sponsor events that are supposed to be funded by the Councilman.
Not to take trips, using taxpayer money for food and lodging.
Not to go against the will of the people and manipulate children in order to get voted in illegally.
Not to spend hundreds of dollars of our money at a Mattress Company, for what?
Not to subsidize LAUSD expenditures.
Not to sponsor events for non-profits that work towards taking away the peoples right to know and participate in government affairs, such as Legacy L.A.
Someone please let the people know how City Hall is intent on taking away their property and property rights.
Clearly the current board is all about gentrification, the glorious program to move out the poor in order to make room for all those who abandoned the City and now want to move back without giving the people a fair value for their property.
Historical Preservation Overlay Zones, Hillside Ordinances, Business Improvement Districts, More High Density Development, Higher Water Rates, Higher Trash Fees, Higher Electrical Rates, Higher Parking Fees, Higher Traffic Violations Fees, Higher Sewer Fees, on and on and on. Not on a progressive basis but on a flat tax basis clearly hitting the poor and middle class hardest in the pocketbook.
But what do you care? Most of you work for or are taken care of by the very same government agencies that reap the benefits of all these extra fees.
Shame on this and the previous Board for not addressing the most serious issues facing the Neighborhood. Spending money on self aggrandizement is not representative government its just self delusional ego stroking.
As long as the politicians are able to stuff the Neighborhood Council Boards with their own candidates the Neighborhood will never be truly represented.
Hope you feel proud about stuffing your faces on Charlie's Trio food using our money.
You could have at least bought the food in Lincoln Heights!
