The City is going broke yet salaries continue to skyrocket. The Daily News has compiled a database of city salaries. The list of employees who make over $200,000 a year is staggering, including LAPD Chief Bratton who makes $300,000 a year to tell his constituents where to go. City Chief Administrative Officer Karen Sission makes $220,000 and her replacement - Marcus Allen - wants another $70,000 per year. Do these people know this is the taxpayer's money not theirs?Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Arnold Schwarzenegger all say that immigrants to the United States need to learn English. Schwarzenegger, an immigrant himself who came to America not knowing how to speak English urges Spanish speaking immigrants to turn off Telemundo and watch English television. However, Joe Mathews of the Washington Post disagrees; his view is that local Spanish television news does a superior job of covering the municipal scene.
A transit blogger says that Mayor Villaraigosa's and Supervisor Antonovich's Gold Line extension encourages sprawl and should be ditched in favor of two light rail lines that would serve Glendale and Eagle Rock.
In the Daily News Sunday, Doug McIntyre recounted a recent road trip across the country which allowed him to reflect on life here in LA. While Councilwoman Janice Hahn is reportedly paying gang members to fight gang crime she's been working on ownership of chickens in Los Angeles, a serious issue facing our city.

A group of Black Republicans are raising funds on the notion that the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. According to the group the civil rights leader registered GOP in 1956.

How about Rudy Montiel at the Housing Authority about $400,000 including benefits and he is spending part of his time on other than city business!
What does the rest of his staff make?
"Spanish television news is superior" This guy obviously is not from LA. The Spanish news is more like novelas. They exaggerate and always show propaganda to scare immigrants. Its surprising the FCC hasn't gone after them. Hard to believe their stories are actually the ones that happened here in LA cause they make so much of it up.
I would much rather have a chief of police making that kind of money then the idiot who runs DWP Nahai who makes over $300,000 and doesn't deserve it and all his guys who make over $200,000, 24 of the Mayor's staff make over $100,000, and now Marcus Allen wants to make over $300,000. Where's the voice in this city???
This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! Let's speak the language of this country which is, if you've forgotten ENGLISH!!!
I spoke not a word of english when I was brought to this country, not swiming, and proud to say my folks insisted on NO half english, half spanish.
Let's speak ENGLISH at: your children's SCHOOL, DMV, if you must be there-at the WELFARE office, at the POLLING PLACE.

Spanish-LANGUAGE television news works it's audience for viewership just like English-language news.
They get good results with embellishing the "injustices" in situations, whether real or perceived, to the detriment of pure objectivity.
The news I've seen on those stations usually bears a slant in favor of a victimized class. The more sensational the better. There also runs through the "services" reflected in the new an idea of entitlement of the masses, and using these services, often public services, is encouraged.
Ratings-driven t.v. is universal, just employing different methods.

One way to have English restored as our official language would be to require EVERYONE who wants to collect welfare or SSI to SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH!

I don't suppose this is the same group that's floated the rumor for years that famous Black Muslim, Malcolm X was killed because the word was out he was about to convert to Christianity?
3:38 the exact figure for Montiel is $354,053 in salary, 48,269 in benefits to a total of $402,322 per year according to 990 filed on 2006 on behalf of "Lomod" corporations.
How much is it now? who knows. The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles is in terrible shape for this clown to be making this amount of money. The board of commissioners is just ignoring all of the issues that this agency has. Last year the LA Times reported that HACLA had spent over $7,000,000 dollars to fight corruption in the agency, Montiel show what you got for that money? By the way we hear that many of the programs are running out of money.
This agency will hurt Villaraigoza in his quest for a second Mayor term.
So Marcus Allen wants nearly $300,000 to be the new CAO? Usually that amount of money is only given when it's needed to pry away someone from their current job. What is his current job? Well, he doesn't have one. He's a consultant to some lobbyists. So how much is he making now? I think we could get him for less. Let's play hardball.
Amazing!! Fighting roosters look different from regular roosters. Why don't they just limit the number of fighting roosters (or ban them) instead of penalizing everyone who raises chickens?
The fact that Hahn in South LA/Watts and Cardenas in the barrio, were the flag carriers for the Rooster issue, shows the low lifes they have living there, the gangs who "fight" roosters AND pit bulls etc.
Reyes and Co. are just itching and planning to move them to the Westside in the biggest disaster to hit this city, once we can't recover from.

Chickens are already illegal in LA except in agricultural zones, and how many of us live in agricultural zones around here? The proposed chicken law is another example of how on top of things our wonderful City Council is!
