Outtakes from "East by Northeast",****"Las Villas is Dead"

"Los Lomas", "No Home Depot (for now)", and now "Las Villas", Grass Roots activism won the day yesterday when Mayor Sam Award Winner Councilman Ed Reyes announced that the controversial "Las Villas Project" was being scrapped, in front of the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council meeting last evening.

Months of protest by community members and and the resulting media coverage (including bloggin coverage), cause the two primary investors to accept the wishes of the community.

Now the focus changes to what type of business would be best conducive to the Broadway and Thomas Street location.

In other news "East by Northeast", "DIRT BURNELL" is back.

Just when you thought that the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN AS JOSE HUIZAR" had finally put this "hillside development abortion" in the trash can, the controversial project is coming back before the Planning Commission according to Mt. Washington sources.

SOUTHWEST MUSEUM/ GRIFFITH PARK UPDATE:

According to community members who attended the recent Recreation and Parks Commission meeting, there is a strong possibility that the oversight on the proposed Autry Expansion, will be moved to an different commission. This is due to potential "Conflicts of Interest" issues relating to members of the Recreation and Parks Commission.

.......and in closing, is there something wrong with our Neighborhood Council system when members vote to use public money for community projects that may result in personal enrichment for themselves or their employers???

Why do you think "a whole lotta" NC representatives "get themselves elected", when most of them are quite obviously not civic-minded? Hell at the least, it can serve as free advertisement for their business. Why do you think that many people want financial disclosures for publicly elected, NC boardmembers, via Form 700? It's to prevent/deter potential, financial conflict-of-interest.

Take a look at the definition of a stakeholder. Who came up with this crap? In effect, a stakeholder is anyone that the ruling, local NC wishes. By this definition, a person can belong to any number of NCs. JMO, this definition needs to be restricted to persons that live or own/rent property in that area.

http://cityclerk.lacity.org/election/ncdocs/NC%20FAQs%20FINAL.pdf
What is the new Stakeholder Definition?
On December 18, 2007, the Los Angeles City Council adopted the
Neighborhood Council Review Commission’s Recommendation #42 (File 05-
0894-S3), which defines stakeholders as “those who live, work, or own property in
the neighborhood and also to those who declare a stake in the neighborhood
and affirm the factual basis for it.”

BTW, if I have daily breakfast in one NC district, daily lunch at another NC district, and daily dinner at yet another NC district am I a stakeholder at the three associated NCs, given that I have a stake in each district?

Why does this news about Dirt Burnell not surprise me? Huizar has never met a developer he didn't like, and we all knew what would happen: all the fuss would die down and the project would quietly come back to life with a wink and a nod from Huizar.

This time it will be interesting to see which council person's office (Huizar, Reyes, Garcetti) was the one who got the Planning Commission to review and renew the process for a permit. Or maybe it came from somewhere else a little higher up in the food chain? Regardless of where it comes from, one thing is clear: this project is going to be rammed through and crammed down the neighbors throat whether they like it or not.

The Police Protective League has endorsed Zine's motion to let cops question suspects re: legal status even without another offense -- going right up against Bratton, who's lost the nation's respect over this. Wow, there must be fireworks at LAPD and in the Mayor's office today. Story, LAT.

Proves cops KNOW SP40 endangers their lives. And everyone's.

The Daily News story on the gang injunction in Zorro Marxist/ cholo Alarcon's district, tells how the gang's been keeping residents imprisoned in their homes, taken over the local schools and kids as young as 11, and they've run around in the streets flaunting guns and laughing at the cops, too chicken from orders of Bratton and the Mexicans to do anything about it. They're sick of it.

Cholo Alarcon and Rocktard say they're happy with the injunction, but of course continue to oppose SP40 and won't touch how many of these vicious things are illegals. They won't get it, the cops do.

Alarcon and Huizar chose today to make a point, by designating a stamp for 60's Chicano activist Ruben Salazar, who was killed during the course of his radical activities. Alarcon thanked "this very liberal City Council" for it, and of course fool LaBong and Rosendahl babbled, too -- Garcetti joined in, maybe hedging his bets with the Mexicans, since he's not as low-class as the 4 on the Council or Nunez or Gil Cedillo.

These cholos have managed in just a few years to live down to everyone's worst fears of Mexican politicians: that they'll not only turn the County into TJ, but want to move into the "gringo" part of the city, destroy zoning and quality of life to build soon-to- be slums for their illegal underclass. Since redistricting, the Mexicans and blacks have the majority, then there's leftie fools Rosendahl and Hahn, and "what motion is this? what high school did you go to and when?" La Bong.

Yup the low life Mexicans have ruined this city. They have no class, no morals, no ethics, no leadership but a lot of corruption behind them. Amazing they said this would happen and it has a bunch of gang banging wannabe Latino politicans with no brains has made LA the worst in the history of this nation.

Everyone e-mail these council people to put Zine's motion on the Public Safety agenda then it will go to the full council. We can't wait any longer. Let's be active and do something instead of complaining. Reyes of course will be the only stupid idiot to say no but email and let them know we want this done NOW.

2:32 pm, Does any of that mean that it's o.k. for a particular person to murder people, or, that they get a free pass on that act? Of course not.

If you haven't noticed, most people don't murder other people.

This guy and others like him could have been removed from the streets of this country way BEFORE now because he was illegally in the U.S.

Now that he has committed OTHER crimes, allowing him to stay here was a big preventable MISTAKE. He proved that.

SO getting to this problem is the thing that can reduce and prevent MORE crimes, including MURDERS in other cases. You might have heard of "an accident waiting to happen?"
Except that there is no accident coming up, it's all intentional.

As you appear to notice, others murder, but they are not subject to deportation, being the home-grown slugs that they are.

Because you can't get ALL gang bangers deported does not mean that they must be IGNORED.

Criminal gang bangers will have to be made accountable for their illegal behavior.

My personal question is about the previous short sentence for a handgun offense by Espinoza. He is not even able to POSSESS a handgun if under age 21, even a citizen cannot do that

Sentencing is too lenient for use of firearms by criminals and handgun possession offenses are not fully pursued by prosecutors.

The no-brainer solution is to remove your deportable criminals, and even jail them before that if they have repeated illegal entries, a separate federal crime.

It depends. You are being very vague. Tell me the details and I'll tell you what I think. I'm one of the most follow-the-money freaks you'll ever meet, but I'm pretty objective. We've had some very minor incidents in our neighborhood council that "those certain trpuble-makers" always tried to make every vote into something personal no matter how far-fetched the accusers were stretching. Everything we do is supposed to benefit our community and that benefits us.

So what is the money connection/allegation here?

Good luck to all of the opponents of the projects who have won lately! I have been hearing Kim Thompson talk about Las Lomas at various events for 5 or 6 years. I hope Las Villas and Home Depot have good activists like that in their communities. She spoke at an event the day after the city hall vote and said that she considers the Las Lomas win as only a battle and there would still be war. She's so fun to spar with.

Good luck Sunland-Tujunga. I'll be there to watch that showdown.

Congratulations to Lincoln Heights NC. They spoke up and fought hard for what they wanted and won!!

That is what NC's are suppose to do. They are suppose to give neighborhood's a voice. Most NC's don't do that. Congratulations to those few that do their job. Even then we have to beg the clown people to listen.

Everyone from a board of an NC please put on your agenda to write a letter of support to your councilperson to support Jamels law.
