The City Controller blew the whistle on L.A.’s failed gang prevention programs and vows to hold the mayor accountable for fixing them

.....A third option is perhaps more likely, but even less acceptable: that the proposed new trash-fee hike is just a way to close up the gap for the city's general fund, and has nothing to do with police hiring at all. The city is facing a $500 million shortfall from declining revenue streams and rising costs. Already city leaders are jacking up fees and taxes at every turn, from zoo-entrance fees to water and power rates.

And since the City Council fought hard to make sure that trash fees go into the black hole of the general fund, there's no guarantee that any of the money will ever be dedicated to police hiring, and we'll be asked for another trash-fee hike in a couple more years.

If city leaders want to raise trash fees to what they say is the true cost of refuse collection (and then we'll have to take a hard look at what the real true cost is) to fill up the general fund, then they ought to be honest about it.

But honesty to the people has never been City Hall's strong suit.

THIS IS WHY I LOVE THE DAILY NEWS. THEY AREN'T AFRAID TO PRINT OPPPOSITION TO OUR STUPID MAYOR. GOOD FOR THEM

Wish city hall was more forthcoming about the REAL defecit,

I believe it is more in the range of $600-800 million. C'mon Tony Villar & Council, be honest... for a change.

Does anybody know what our bond rating is currently or if it about to change?

“Prop R, Who cares, it is a done deal.”

These were the first words from the media at the press conference.

My response was to the point and I believe accurate. The Los Angeles City Council cares very much. The 200 Lobbyist who do business with Los Angeles are very closely monitoring the legal process and care very much.

Just because thousands of people are not storming the castle called City Hall, does not mean they don’t care.

After a year and a half of a legal process which is complicated and often unrewarding, the folks are waiting to see if there is still even a small chance of justice in an unjust system.

When we first began the legal challenge we made a commitment to those who would come to support us. The challenge was worthy of the time and money needed to bring justice to Los Angeles.

Once the effort was started, we had an obligation to those supporters to see this to the end. They care and we care.

The City of Los Angeles has about one week left to file their Response Brief. Our final Brief will be filed within three weeks following.

The Oral Arguments in the 2nd Court of Appeals will be in July. Once the case is heard and the decision is in, we will see an awaking in the City of Los Angeles that will be heard in every one of the fifteen City Council Districts.

Daily we hear and see behavior from our elected officials which have little chance of being addressed with something other than more political posturing.

Once we are successful with the Prop R Challenge, we will begin to implement our other legal challenges on policies being practiced by the City of Los Angeles which violate the Constitution.

We look forward to the Challenge head and look forward to seeing you at the Victory Party.

8:42 - I know what our bond rating is, and it will not be changing in the near future. It's a matter of public record, so with a little internet digging, you will know the answer to your question.

Let's draft and support Zev Y. for mayor. Land use is one of the most important issues in this city and he "gets it"

More Dumb LAUSD stuff

I just got another auto-call from Poly High telling me my child was absent from school tody.

Cool right?
Nope- I don't have any kids- And the message advised that if the call was in error, to call the school. Then it hung up WITHOUT GIVING THE SCHOOL NUMBER!!!

It's almost like their doing it on purpose.

Wouldn't the dumboes wanna know if they were in fact contacting the right family? And if they really were concerned about the dropouts and missing kids- wouldn't this info be important?
