Why Gov. Bill Richardson is No. 1 in my heart ...
Gov. Bill Richardson (a F.O.B., who even watched the Superbowl with the Former President at a kegger at the governor's mansion-- okay, I'm kidding about the kegger) has declared his support of Sen. Barack Obama for the democratic nomination.
Richardson, who had sought to become the first HISPANIC President (whaa... who said hispanics won't support an african-american candidate?!) bowed out of the race back in January, and while initially supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton, has seen the light and was awestruck by the brilliant speech on race given by Sen. Obama on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
“I believe he is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime leader that can bring our nation together and restore America’s moral leadership in the world,” Mr. Richardson said in the statement, provided by the Obama campaign early Friday morning.
“As a presidential candidate, I know full well Senator Obama’s unique moral ability to inspire the American people to confront our urgent challenges at home and abroad in a spirit of bipartisanship and reconciliation.”
The New Mexico Governor also went on to say:
“...there is no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama has the judgment and courage we need in a commander in chief when our nation’s security is on the line. He showed this judgment by opposing the Iraq war from the start, and he has shown it during this campaign by standing up for a new era in American leadership internationally.”
Oh, snap!
Guess Bill and Hillary won't be going to any more keggers at the governor's manse in New Mexico.

If you had one white parent and one black parent or you had one hispanic parent and one white parent doesn't that make you mixed?
How can you claim to be one and not the other?
Barack Obama is not Black anyway he is African and White.
Jesse Jackson is black.
Richardson's Dad was American. He is half and half like Obama.

Thanks for posting Valley Doll. I wonder where Gore and Edwards go or if they stay on the sidelines. There are several weeks to go until Pennsylvania and the endorsements could still make a difference. My guess is that either or both go with Obama.
I also wonder if the Obama or Clinton camps did what Reagan did in '76 with Richard Schweiker (U.S. Senator of Pennsylvania incidentally) and name a Veep going into the convention to attract support.
It's easy to "oppose" the war in Iraq "from the start" when he wasn't there to have a vote. How nice to have the luxury of claiming that he would have done so, had he been there... Heck, I opposed it, too, because I know that everything in the Muslim world comes down to tribal battles with each other, to other issues (like whether we support India over Pakistan), and of course, "the Palestinian question."
Since I'm a lot smarter than Obama, shouldn't I be President instead?
My "moral" standing is mighty excellent, too. (Something Richardson brings up repeatedly -- seems he's really more aiming at Bill's reputation. And isn't the press just helping with their hammering on how Hillary was in the White House while he was getting his - @#**# by Monica Lewinsky?)
If Hillary and Bill had gone to an old, flaming racist like Wright for even one sermon, let alone 20 years, she'd be forced to give up.
Yeah, nice speech all right, more pretense. The nerve of a guy dragging emancipation into the issue again, just so people would be dumb enough to bite the bait and compare him to Lincoln, as well as MLK and JFK. (Just don't mention LBJ, that's "racist!")

Bill Richardson is a real go getter and has turned New Mexico around completely from a backward stagnant state to one that is now near the top as far as job growth, industry relocation, (Hollywood watch out! at any given time there is a dozen films on location in NM), and international business being conducted. He is internationally known and respected and has a ton of experience in Govt.
Obama is a smart cookie and so is Richardson, BR will bring a lot of the Hispanic vote with him and BR is a tireless campaigner who is bilingual (English and Spanish), and also has big contacts and friends in the Asian Community.
BR was born in Pasadena Ca to a Mexican Mother and a blue blooded Yankee Dad from New England. BR was raised much of the time in a marginal Mexico DF varrio (his dad was the US Rep for what is now Citibank in Mexico for many years), and BR graduated from Tufts University in New England where he was a star baseball player who had offers from several major league teams.
Bill eventually ended up in New Mexico where he served a couple of terms as US Representative from Northern New Mexico (Taos, Santa Fe), was appointed ambassador to the UN and was Secretary of Energy during the Clinton Presidency.
BR is now in his second term as Governor of New Mexico.
He is a hell of an asset for Obama and if Obama wins the Presidency BR will be a hell of an asset for the United States.
....and for the "POLITICO FORMERLY KNOWN AS ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA, tony villar....a footnote in history.
Could be RS CD 14, but to quote the illustrious Yogi Berra "it ain't over till it's over", or in Mayor Tony V's case it will probably be

Valley Doll, I'm surprised at you! Endorsing two hack politicians simply because they're 1/2 "of color." Remember when Richardson begged Bush to put a moretoreum on the illegal alien round-ups? Was that a good thing for this country? And as for Obama: his lousy speech last Tues. proved he should've taken a few improv classes along his golden path to the White House. He can't think on his feet! And the way he insulted his grandmother was disgusting; "typical white person." At least she didn't force him to perform Al Jolson songs at her weekly bridge parties! I'm sorry that the immature sots here would insult you (of course anonymously ... that doesn't take any courage, does it?) for your opinion. However, respectfully, I have to disagree.
I have so many colors going on in my family and so many cultures going on ... it makes my head spin. I feel like I need a scorecard to keep all of us straight. Where do I begin?
Okay - my nieces. My brother is 100% hispanic. His wife is white. They have three daughters. The oldest identifies herself as hispanic, latina, chicana ... she's brown and she's proud. She's fluent in spanish and has traveled to Ecuador for a semester of school (she's studing medicine in college currently).
The middle girl rejects the culture entirely. She identifies herself as all white. Won't speak spanish, hates the culture, which is fine. Disappointing, but I respect her choices.
The youngest one is proud of both parts of her heritage.
My godson has a white mother and a black father. He is being raised as a black man--immersed in a wonderful culture and history that he embraces and relishes. He identifies with being black.
I don't think either politician is a hack, they've each earned their right to be where they are today. And by no means did I think Obama was disrespectful to his "typical white" grandmother. He was just telling it like it is.
I grew up in three different worlds, but each feels like home to me ... the black communities of south los angeles, the hispanic communities of east los angeles, and the middle class suburbs of the valley.
You just have no idea what it's like to be a person of color, trying to fit in, in a world that won't let you identify yourself in the way that makes you feel proud to be who you are, when all some people would do is force yourself to declare your place in the world based on their standards.
It's a new day. We come in many shades and flavors, and have earned the right to call ourselves, or immerse ourselves in the many cultures that make up our birthrights.
You just have no idea.

3/24/08--3:20 pm is absolutely correct--the Clintons will pull a proverbial rabbit out of their fat asses and steal the nomination from Obama.
Then the Democratic party will have a convention that will make Chicago '68 look like a tea party.
