The Downtown News's exec ed Jon Regardie fetches one of the City's biggest scoops of the year to date: outgoing Supe Yvonne Braithwaite Burke will endorse Bernard Parks in the race for her second district LA County seat.

To side with JM, and its never maybe happened before that I have, its the most significant endorsement of the most significant local race of this year. It won't be the biggest scoop of the year, but I cant think of a bigger one to date this year.

Parks, by contrast, has one of the most conservative voting records on the City Council and has consistently sided with business interests over labor, arguing that development in South L.A. is critical to its economic success. His opposition to requiring developers to meet certain social goals is not confined to the city's poorest precincts, however. He opposed extending the city's living wage to workers not employed by government contractors, such as those at a dozen LAX-area hotels or at retail projects under development in his 8th District. (Last week, the living-wage ordinance was upheld by a panel of the 2nd District Court of Appeal.) He's been hostile to rent control, to protecting tenants facing eviction because of condo conversions and to requiring developers to set aside some of their units as affordable housing. Over labor's intense opposition, he's championed Wal-Mart's efforts to enter the L.A. market.

Parks is certainly the better known of the two candidates and will likely collect more endorsements from L.A.'s aging black political establishment. He already has the fervid support of Rep. Maxine Waters, who has long resented Ridley-Thomas' efforts to build a political base independent of hers in South-Central.
The endorsement should not come as a surprise to anyone: Yvonne has for some time NOT been particularly fond of Ridley-Thomas....
Maxine Waters is an idot and example of how horrible the politics game is. You can be a moron like her and get elected. Parks failure as a police chief is enough for Ridley Thomas to use and remind people. Don't forget Bitter Bernie wanted to take away the trash fees which is suppose to be for cops and use in general fund.

I've got it on record for years I questioned Parks record on the budget when he was trying to get rid of Hahn. Now the poop will hit the fan!

AT least Hahn had the balls to get rid of him and thanks to Hahn the city has Bratton. Antonio always tries to take credit since he hasn't done shit in his couple of years as Mayor except put this city in a financial crisis, embarrassed LA to the entire nation because of an easy piece of ass, has no idea how to fix traffic problem, panders to illegals who have over run our city, is in bed with developers and still behaves like an, unethical, no morals, no class, no education moron.

Right on! Those are the exact same things I've said in 2005. Mayor Beaneraigosa was going to financially rape and pillage this city to the highest bidder. Surprise Folks, Here we are 2008 and not a G**damn thing has changed. Notice the lack of audits from Laura Chick-N-shit. If you heard about this financial crisis during Hahn's watch that MANipulative Can't Understand Normal Thinking Controller would have sent out so many audits it'll make your head spin.
