David Galaviz, the "TROJAN MAN" of the Lincoln Heights N.C.
Much has been written here at Mayor Sam about the antics of Bradley at the Cypress Park Neighborhood Council and his counterpart in the LA 90032, Hugo Garcia.But lets not forget the "Czar" that reigns over the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, David Galaviz.
The Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council is well known for its "under 18 voter base". Also whatever USC wants the USC dominated N.C. will give.
In recent days, my fellow blogger Zuma Dogg has been bringing you the latest on the "Las Villas" saga that has roiled the masses in Lincoln Heights against the propose project next to Lincoln High School at the old Rose Eye Clinic.
there is controversy raging in Lincoln Heights that will affect the CarmeliteIt is alleged that Mr. Galaviz has attempted to restrict activists from handing out an local newspaper ("The Voice") that has been critical of the "Las Villas Project".
Sisters. The Voice newspaper reports: "Given the close proximity of the project
to their location and the listed hours of operation for the Las Villas facility,
sisters of the Carmelite Covenant at Little Flower Missionary House have stated
that if the project is built with it's beer and wine license, the convent may
have to relocate for the safety of the school's 100+ pre-school and pre-kinder
children. The Carmelite nuns have resided at their Lincoln Heights place of
worship since 1943."
The Las Villas issue is just one of many issues that have local activists questioning Galaviz motives in local issues.
Galaviz has been doing his best "Bradley" in expediting developement on the hilltops such as "Flattop" and "Paradise Hill".
Galaviz also sits on the Adelante Redevelopement Board and is USC's point person in pushing forward such projects as the "USC 2030" and the "Bio Tech Research Corridor along Valley Blvd.
Recently, Galaviz, fellow N.C. member Eileen Sanchez, along with political insiders Dalila Sotelo and Jenny Krusoe, were spearheading creation of an new non-profit called Legacy L.A. that would use a old Armory site at Hazard Park.
Some even speculate that Galaviz is using his positions to advance a political agenda, ie. a run for future office. After all, Galaviz was once paid to spin "Driver Licenses for Illegals" when working for State Senator Gil Cedillo.
But how would Galaviz spin the absence of elections in the LHNC for the last three years?? This needs clarification, hopefully before the negative cost of the Galaviz's reign gets too high.

Don't you find it rather a coincidence that Tony Butka is a Board Member at Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council and now the chair of the Glassell Park NC. BTW, isn't he also one of the founders of Proh-LA, a hillside pro development group? Whoo Hoo, so much for self affirmed.
Sotelo is also the in-house shill for a developer that's also adding monster condominium mazes to a previously open space property that would have otherwise been part of the state park or a much needed public high school in Cypress Park at the old railroad yards.

I love how these people never were involved nor cared about their community for years. Once they see how they could benefit they get involved. David is USC pantsy. He pushes all the development around the hospital USC wants. Didn't you hear Ed Reyes talk about Las Villas saying it was ok for them to have liquor license cause it was a family environment. I understand that we tear people down here from time to time but David Galaviz is a stand-up guy. I've known him for over 10 years in politics/public affairs. Agree/disagree with him on the issues but you won't find a more dedicated person to civic engagement, making a difference and serving the common good.
That said, you can rest assure that I will call him The Czar the next time I see him. Fight On David!

1 suspect killed after L.A. officers are fired upon by AK-47
Los Angeles police shot and killed one man and wounded another after a wild incident in northeast Los Angeles that began with a drive-by shooting that threatened a toddler and culminated with suspects firing on officers with an AK-47 rifle, officials said.
Two suspects remained at large, and the neighborhood, including several schools, was still on lockdown hours after the initial shooting took place shortly before noon.
The assault on police took place after officers attempted to stop a car similar to one involved in a drive-by shooting that took place about 10 minutes earlier, police said. In that incident, a shooter or shooters fired more than a dozen rounds at a man carrying a 2-year old child, police said. The victim in that shooting was critically injured and taken to a hospital. The child also was taken to the hospital but was not wounded, authorities said.
After leaving the scene of the drive-by, people in the car began firing their weapons indiscriminately, said LAPD Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz.
Plainclothes officers in the area near the intersection of Drew Street and Estara Avenue heard the gunfire and tried to stop the car. Three of the men in the car jumped out of the vehicle with weapons and fired on officers, Diaz said. The officers then returned gunfire, fatally shooting one suspect and seriously wounding another, he said.
"One of the suspects opened fire on the officers with an AK-47," said Cmdr. Andrew Smith, supervisor of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Bureau, which includes the area where the incident occurred.
No officers were injured in the attack, police said.
I posted this on another thread, but the thread has been completely removed apparently. WRT to the Las Villas liquor license, has anyone filed a complaint with the State Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) people? I talked to them not long ago on a similar matter and the fellow at the ABC told me that if so much as one legitimate WRITTEN complaint (and proximity to schools should certainly qualify as a legitimate complaint) about the issuance of an alcohol permit was received from even one citizen, the license would be stopped while the permit underwent state reviews, hearings, etc. In the meantime, they would not be allowed to proceed. Somebody just needs to write the letter (include the case numbers, etc.) and send it along. The LHNC has no legal authority, they can object or not object, but if a citizen contacts the ABC, apparently the permit is dead in the water.

Two nice little stories about the NE area in tonight's LA Obama Times.
The shootout tonight that shut down blocks in an all-out shootout between the cops and the Avenues gang, tells a little background, about how they go back to the 50's, and are controlled by the Mexican prison Mafia.
In 2006 some were convincted of hate crimes for targeting blacks to drive them out of the area, which includes parts of Glassell Park, that they claim to control. (Watch your back, Bradley.)
Another heartwarming story about immigrant enterprise: they busted a ring in Oxnard where a body shop owned by a father-son specialized in smuggling in Mexican illegals.
But not just any illegals. They outfitted hidden seats to smuggle in "Mexican migrants who had been deported for aggravated felonies."
Their associates, the drivers, were caught a number of times at the border, but because they "only had one or two" felons at a time, they were let go. Nice.
I hope the Glassell Park, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights and Westlake areas really start to pressure the pandering pols like Reyes to stop this crap about SP40, and not only deport them but increase penalties for a second time and abetting.

How convenient it was that the LHNC elections were then held at Lincoln High where students were allowed to vote as adults.
Then again there's Shirley Fierro who thinks she is the plantation owner to all of us 'darkies' who live in the Heights. Maybe she should keep her ass in Glendale (where she lives) and worry more about what Ol' Ralphie is doing in Palm Springs every weekend.
Oh but wait... David keeps his landlady happy by allocating her $1500 of LHNC money yearly to put her stupid bows and ribbons on our trees on North Broadway.

I must agree with Edward. David is a story of success in his own right. I had the privilege of working with him for a few years and whether you agree with his ideas or not, the guy is very smart, hard working, and guided by strong ethical principles. He also displayed a strong sense of loyalty to his friends and maybe all the qualities I just shared are difficult to understand by some who simply need to label everything they can not understand. If you disagree with David, character assesination would not work for you. I suggest trying to over work, over research, and over train the guy. Figh on David!
The people who are opposed the project are a 97.5% members of Sacred Heart Church.
The only facility in Lincoln Heights that can hold private parties and sells liquor for there fundraisers. So why would they welcome a place of business that would create competition? The church is making well over 100,000 renting out an auditorium as a “Banquet Facility”. Just because the church is against the project doesn’t mean god is on the churches side. I guess when Father Michael Baker was doing stuff to little boys was god on his side? I wonder what Hugo and Robert hands are doing to Father Mario.

1.5 million CRA dollars went to Las Villas, the amazing thing is the CRA does not loan money to commerical development not within a CRA project area. Last time I checked, 3319-3325 Broadway (the Las Villas site)was outside a CRA project area. Interesting? Good question for Ed Reyes!

Lincoln Heights - what a cast of characters - this Gala-whatever, Hugo (bitter puritan), Robert Vega (Sanford and Son), Mary Pacheco (is that hair real), Ray Covoarubias, Lamspon, Richard Macias, and of course Sacred Heart - no liquor for anywhere else, but come to our church functions and drink our liqor since we have to raise funds to protect molestor priests.

Another Project Outside the CRA area is Cuatro Vientos low income housing on Huntington Drive In El Sereno (CD-14) by East LA Community Corporation.
It is Outside the ADELANTE CRA Area, East LA Community Corp. has ties to Richard Alatorre, his sisther works the El Sereno field office, Huizar former Public Relations Director, who is also from Zacatecas, Mexico sits on the Board of Directors. East LA Community Corp. has ties to Mayor Villar. Meanwhile the community of Boyle Heights gets screwed again of funds as it did when they built the oversized mixed use buildind ( high rise ) in Eagle Rock on Colorado Blvd.
Why have they not built a complex like Eagle Rock's mix use in El Sereno or Boyle height Take a look at Huntington Drive nothing but low income housing, thanks to Alatorre, and councilmen/mayor Villar, CRA spend your money on attracting a Walgreen, Ralph and other Business's that will add jobs and inprove the community, while adding sales tax to the city. I'am sure that the Boyle height community does not like to see it funds be miss used at the benifit of our poorly elected city officials. They want their community improved.
Why is it that CD 14 has so maany non-profis, and so much abuse. They use them whem it comes to election time.
That's why mayor villar gave city employee's a 25% raise when the city has a budget problem, so come election time they will pump money into his campaign and endorse him all at the cost of taxpayer's.
What has he done with the Trash fee's, no new 1,000 police officers. Zev would be an outstanding Mayor to replace the midget.
