Holiday Lite Hotsheet for Monday
When the top local news is about children on a picket line, you know there's not a lot going on this Veteran's Day. Still, for MayorSam in-the-know junkies, try some of these stops...
For years, the City has had a devil of a time planning good uses for Angel's Gate Park in San Pedro, but the Daily Breeze reports that all is unfolding speedily.
The Downtown News has not one but two Rec and Parks/QUIMBY articles this week, and readers should get to know Rec and Parks GM Jon Kirk Mukri very well by the end of them. Council Prez Garcetti dressed down Mukri in Chamber last week for not spending money fast enough. That kind of action by a Council honcho is usually a precursor of some kind of coming kleptocratic move. Alatorre was a master at raiding fee funds in the nineties; just ask Department of Cultural Affairs old-timers.
There's also some speculation in the Downtown News about whether or not Jose Huizar might become another "corridor casualty."
Finally, Orlov takes advantage of the downtime to opine that El Alcalde now needs City Council as a scourge. But he can't quite make it through what starts out as an analysis piece without getting back to hard news: Ridley-Thomas's birthday fundraiser, Parks slowing down police hiring, Nunez's iffy fundraising.
It's kind of refreshing to see a guy so stuck on news that he'd rather cram a bunch of facts than a bunch of opinions into a news analysis piece.
Local news analysis; what a concept. They should try that sometime at the Former Fishwrap of Record.

Good finally for Steve Hymon
...Take, for example, last Wednesday. Only three hours into the City Council's meeting, members took a stand against the issue of don't ask, don't tell.
This was notable for two reasons.
The first is that don't ask, don't tell -- although perhaps a deplorable, discriminatory policy in our nation's military -- was last big news in 1993.
The second is that the city of Los Angeles does not have a military. Keen readers may note that Los Angeles does, however, have plenty of murders, homeless, traffic jams and people who do not live near a nice park.

The Dept of Cultural Affairs was run for the benefit of Mexican cultural groups and individuals only. One of my friends was a Cuban actress/writer with established credits, but she knew she didn't stand a chance with Al Nodal because she wasn't part of the "Mexican cultural Mafia." they didn't even consider her proposal seriously at all, just took it as a matter of show. But there were funding very wasteful programs at the theatre downtown -- most badly reviewed amateur shows. No wonder that multi-theatre lab thing folded after losing a lot of money.

Parks is clearly trying to campaign for BOS by taking on both Bratton and the Mayor and their supporters, which will backfire. Above all that Bernie lied: denied he tried to swipe the trash fee hike, when he clearly did.
Either his memory is going (doubt it) or he thinks the voters and media are as amenesiac as he, Cardenas and Alarcon had hoped -- they all denied they ever tried to pull that stunt, tried to turn it all into numbers of attrition.
The blacks have some legitimate grievances against the Hispanics, like the schools/ language/ culture issue, controlling funds, etc. But they're showing that they haven't matured one iota politically since the 60's -- they turn everything into such a confrontational racial battle, they lose public sympathy.

Daily News has an editorial last night about Parks trying to balance the budget by swiping the trash fee hike for cops instead of by balancing the budget year round, across the board. The Mayor gets some too, for wanting to cut all fee waivers like for the Oscars which bring prestige and revenue to the city.
DN wants city to balance budget by cutting those union workers salaries, not services or cops. Or raising taxes for cops and swiping them for the deficit. Looks like they're not letting go on this topic.
Meanwhile Rick Orlov column in on Parks' case for running for the Board of Supes as a fiscal conservative while pulling this.
Wonder if the DN will openly come out for Ridley-Thomas instead.

If Huizar can get independent money for Broadway and it generates revenue great. The Hispanics need to create more revenue for the whole city, to stop this sucking noice that goes east and south.
But if it's a drain on the city to build that thing up and then it stays a main drag for low-income Hispanics, not so good.
Article says it will help complete the area around L A Live, becoming a magnet for -- those going downtown to cultural venues? The new loft and condo dwellers?

CD14 Jose Huizar held a Veterans parade in Boyle Heights.
This will do much to help his poor image in Boyle Heights.
Because of him holding the parade, people will feel much better about him and support him as a good
counclman
Thank you Jose for holding the parade. You have my vote .
Now We know you can do good for the community, you proved it by having the parade.

Broadway renovation and rejuvination is old, old, old. Miricle on Broadway couldn't do anything with the shit-hole--not even after decades of pumping mega bucks into it. Today it's like a sleazy, broken down border town. The music is too loud, the people are the bottom of the bottom, it's dirty, derilect and repulsive. Nobody wants to walk down the street, let alone buy anything. the only reason to be on Broadway it to pass it on your way to another street. it's gone downhill even while the City spends thousands a year to clean and maintain it. So Huizar--forget it. put you money in to something worthwhile and let Broadway self destruct. When everyone of the cheap crap stores, closes down, the market place will take over.

NOTHING WILL DO MUCH TO HELP HIS POOR IMAGE IN BOYLE HEIGHTS OR ANYWHERE ELSE!
"Because of him holding the parade, people will feel much better about him and support him as a good counclman"
PEOPLE WILL NEVER feel much better about him and SUPPORT HIM as a GOOD COUNCILMAN-- NEVER!
"We know you can do good for the community, you proved it by having the parade."
You have got to kidding! 25 or 30 people put that parade and others together. Huizar had nothing to do with it,other then lend his NAME!
Huizar staffer Rogelio Navar has resign his position with the Council Office.
Are you his new aide to replace NAVAR ?

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen (picks up drumsticks and begins to beat a tattoo):
Its not often that one of our Five lets us know that they got a phone call at home from the Grand Dame of Northeast Los Angeles politics. And when this dame calls, one is wise to listen. (Starts marching and signals Bard to walk beside him. Quartermaster starts playing the fife and Navigator starts waving the flag) Tomorrow there will be a protest aimed against the usual suspects who are usually up to no good but this time really are up to no good for they took money from a man who managed to demolish a certain old house, dump the evidence on a certain piece of land and then milk the whole sitchy-ation for all its worth, savvy? (Strikes up cadence) Sots, feel free to sing along with our Bard.
(Bard smiles and starts to sing while marching):
“The parents go marching one by one,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The parents go marching one by one,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The parents go marching one by one
At Clowncil they will have some fun
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“The teachers go marching two by two,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The teacehrs go marching two by two,
Huzzah, Huzzah
The teachers go marching two by two,
Tomorrow they shall have their due
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“The neighbours go marching three by three,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The neighbours go marching three by three,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The neighbours go marching three by three
To hang certain sots high up in a tree
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“The activists they march four by four,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The activists they march four by four,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The activists they march four by four,
They don't want to hear lies any more
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“The PTA folks march five by five,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The PTA folks march five by five
Huzzah! Huzzah!
The PTA folks march five by five,
On the news, carried live.
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“And why are they marching, silly sots?
Huzzah! Huzzah!
And why are they marching silly sots?
Huzzah! Huzzah!
Why are they marching you silly sots?
It concerns some land near the Kia plot.
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“For someone dumped a load of shame,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
For someone dumped a load of shame,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
For someone dumped a load of shame
A donor with money, Richard Whats-His Name
And they all go marching down to the City Hall.”
“He gave money to His Nibbs he did.
Huzzah! Huzzah!
He gave money His Nibbs he did,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
He gave money to Ed and Jose
And Kevin and Gil and Yoli they say
As they all went marching down to the City Hall.”
“And what of the high school that won't be built,
Huzzah! Huzzah!
And what of the high school that won't be built?
Huzzah! Huzzah!
And what of the high school that won't be built,
But condos mortgaged to the hilt.....
For tomorrow beans shall all be spilt.....
Down at the City Hall!”

It sounds like this whole blog is full of people from CD14 and Boyle Heights.
Start by getting Huizar to put on less parades at City Expense, all showing his big fat mug: El Grito, now Dia de las Muertos, Veterans Day -- there's one every couple weeks.
And we pay for it, Bratton complained to the L A Times that the Council (notably Huizar and the Hispanics, although he didn't say so) puts the burdens on the whole city, instead of charging the local NC or parade/ march organizers.
If he did something useful, like got himself out there running for charity, that might be good. But he just rides in a car waving at the peons.

The fact is Huizar did nothing but show up to the parade LATE. He was in such a hurry to go to the Eagle Rock Parade which started an hour later that he didn't even respect the veterans at the Boyle Heights Parade and give them their due honor and certificates he promised. He jumped into his car to rush to Eagle Rock and guess who got all the publicity? Not Eagle Rock. His young staffers forgot to order port a pottys and little kids needed to go to the bathroom. That is a public health citation I think. Huizar wants anything happening in CD 14 with his name and picture on it. How egotistical and arrogant. He should learn to be more humble then maybe people would like him a little more.

Huizar will put photos on HIS newsletter just like Antonio claiming credit for the hard work of the residents not him or his staff. When will he figure out you can't disrespect the constituents and get away with it? Remember the good old days when council members did good things for the community because that's what it was about? Now, these morons can't do shit without wanting credit, photographs self congratulating themselves, and telling the world LOOK WHAT I DID (when others put in the time and hard work)
