Monica: A Whopper?
Our readers have always had choice comments about School Board President Monica Garcia. However its not hard for a politician to become the butt of jokes when you make sweeping, grand and inaccurate statements about yourself.
At a recent fundraiser for the Garfield High School auditorium project (held at the facility formerly known as the Universal Amptitheatre) Garcia was heard to tell that she is "first" Latina to serve on the LAUSD school board.
However her website says she is the "third Latina." Which is right? Does anyone care? Are we still keeping track of people's ethnicities?

I heard Monica introduce herself to an educator at the Inner City Struggle gala a couple of weeks ago as "the leader of educational reform in California."
It was embarrassing for all within earshot.
She may be the third Latina, but she's the first LATINA.

What great shining role models Latinos have in public office. A whoremonging Mayor who is so insecure his zipper is in constant motion and two obese Latinas in Molina and Garcia whose mouth are always in motion.
A surprise coming here, "MT. WASHINGTON MOLINA" is far above the other two. She exhibits more common sense that Villar and Garcia.
Molina is far above the other two? At least Antonio and Monica have college degrees, although Antonio hides it well. Tell me, Red Spot, Gloria has been in power since 1982 - what are her accomolishments? And padding her husband's bank accounts doesn't count.
Ya everyone just shut up. Villar is mayor, Monica is the first Latina of LAUSD, Bush is president, Musharraf runs Pakistan, the military owns Myamar and Kim Jong Il owns North Korea so just shut up and deal with it.
Amazing what a college educated politico can accomplish theses days. While "PUGS MOLINA" does not have a degree, she makes up for it with "life experience". On fiscal issues, she shows more restraint than Villar and Garcia.

They made furniture for LAUSD, the owner was an associate of the Governor.
Could they make an extra wide school board seat for Monica?

Yeah Red Spot, really conservative on the fiscal end. Especially when she put 15 years of amassed dicretionary funds into the Latino Museum on Olvera Street. It has yet to be built. This discretionary fund, well over 25 million, could have been used for graffiti removal, gang abatement, business development, etc...all desperately needed in her under served district. That is under served if you do not have contact with her office - check and see who gets the bulk of county and MTA contracts in the eastside.
Her website doesn't say she is the third latina -- it says she is the size of three latinas.

I am so proud of the FIRST Latina on the LAUSD board of education. I am sure that Victoria Castro and Letitia Quezada are also proud of the FIRST Latina to serve on the board also!
