Why waste time on such a small amount to be gained from a phone tax....A better revenue stream would come from increasing or establishing an local exit tax for funds being wired or transfered to foreign countries. This would keep some of the legally earned money here, as well as tax the illegal workers funneling money back to their true home and families. Ka-zillions would be made.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (removes hat and bows low with flourish):

Sots, are there any of you out there with brilliant, cost-cutting, money saving ideas? For if there are, and you are employed by the City, then if you share those ideas with the Powers That Be you may in fact get some cash in return for your brilliance, intelligence and general all-around smarts, savvy? (Whispers) Some poor suffering sot will most likely come up with the brilliant idea of having pirates not blogging on the internet, which, if you will, is a brilliant idea, except that none of us pirates are employed by said City.

(Turns around after hearing sound of something on deck of Black Pearl) Halloo? Who goes there? (Eyes widen in shock when Captain Sparrow sees big pink stork) Bloody hell! Get that thing away from me!

(Runs and tries to hide behind mast. Stork hops over to stand in front of Captain Sparrow. Stork drops folded note. Captain Sparrow picks it up and begins to read. Raises eyebrow. SHOWS BIG GRIN AND THROWS HAT UP IN AIR)

JACK'S AN UNCLE!!!! (Dances around while crew reads note. Crew shouts and cheers) What do you think of that, sots? I'm some little bugger's Uncle Jack, I am. (Breathes sigh of relief) And I thought that bird was meant for someone else. But nonetheless there will be merriment and a magnum of champagne to toast wee Gloriana tonight after the work day is done.

(Checks pockets) Oh bugger. I haven't enough cigars. One can't have a proper fete for a new lass without cigars. (Whispers) Especially if they come from a certain cigar vendor who knows who puts the flame to whom, savvy?

Good link to the City Beat Article. http://www.lacitybeat.com/article.php?id=6342&IssueNum=228

Too bad noone will see it.
Remember in 2005 when Hertzberg and Antonio went around claiming that City traffic lights weren't synchronized? I guess they didn't know 75% were already synched.

I knew most were synchronized as that was posted in a number of places. My question now is WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO USE THE MONEY?

THEY HAVE PROMISED US MORE POLICEMEN. I would be good to save the 5 MILLION ELECTION FEE FOR THE TELEPHONE TAX. REPEAL THE TRASH TAX!

First the foreign money tax, now another idea from the same sordid mind:

Raise the base rate hourly charge on all parking meters from $.25 to .$50. The coinage is set by ordinance to be used for parking lots and maintenance of meters, but that should be amended to include the use of the money for traffic related repairs (streets - since cars parked at meters are using the streets - wear and tear, etc, and for sidewalk repair, being that meters are on set into the sidewalks , cars park for sidewalk bizness usage... this would double the coffers from the meter zones in San Pedro to Canoga Park. True, several affluent and high usage areas already charge more, but most of the meters through the city on the streets and on the City owned lots charge the base rate, set in 1991 or so. Current revenues for coinage is @ $18million (check that), so the increase will be close to double the current revenue, and it affects everyone across the board. Oh, just remebered a quiz question... what CD distric his the only one to have no meters?? Check the norht valley, where Devonshire, Reseda Blvds, Nordhoff, CSUN (what has meters on the campus. But the final decision has always been up to the Council office.. Make meters mandatory in all districts where traffic/parking occupancy studies show the need.

Southwest Museum Celebrates Centennial Sunday
EGP News Service

Los Angeles’ first museum, The Southwest Museum of the American Indian, will celebrate its 100-year anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 21, with an open house and a program for the entire family. The free celebration will take place from noon to 5:00 p.m., and will feature musical entertainment, food, and special behind the scene tours of the historic facility.

Perched atop Mount Washington in Northeast Los Angeles, the museum, founded in 1907 by Charles Lummis, has been undergoing a program of restoration and renovation of the physical structure and collections of Native American artifacts and artwork, one of the largest and most extensive collections in the country, under the direction of the museum’s current owner, the Autry National Museum of the West.

The Southwest Museum holds one of the nation’s most important museum, library, and archive collections related to the American Indian. In addition, it has extensive holdings of pre-Hispanic, Spanish colonial, Latino, and Western American art and artifacts, spanning 2,000 years. For nearly one hundred years it has supported research, publications, exhibitions, and other educational activities to advance the public’s understanding and appreciation of the Americas, with particular emphasis on the western United States and Mesoamerica. The Southwest Museum is located at 234 Museum Drive in Mt. Washington and is easily accessible via the Metro Rail Gold Line, which stops directly across from the museum.

Sordid idea #3

Add up the average of 5 years of waivers approved by the City Council, divide by the number of registered lobbyists, charge that amount to each lobbyist as an annual registration fee;as a good will measure for the year of sleazy bizness. That will cover special event costs.

Added note 1 : All requests for special event waivers go through a committee (with teeth) to approve or disaprove. If approved, Council then votes; If disapproved for a futute Council vote, no appeal, pay the fee.

Added Note 2: As waiver requests come to committee and Council, the agenda must note the accrued fees waived to date.

Added Note 3: As measures come to the any committee or Council, instead of a note from the CAO stating no impact, or minimal, there must be a tallied cost listed on the agenda. If the measure puts the budget in a deficit, and all others past that date, that deficit amount should be listed as the fiscal year runs its course. This would force all to weigh the consequences of each quick aye vote givin through the year. No excuses then for crying that the sky ifs falling when each vote warns of the consequences.
