Thursday Hotsheet at 3 a.m.
Dear MayorSam homeowner: party like it's 1992. Cheaper zip codes just got even cheaper. The days of you losing $1,000-a-day on the value of your home are likely to be with us again soon. Prepare accordingly. And don't worry---too much. You know the old formula, where dropping prices move in like a wave from the farflung suburbs towards the beach, which is last to get hit and first to recover. All of you MayorSam readers living on the Strand in Manhattan Beach should hold up just fine.
A favored do-the-math quote comes from an Orlov article on the pending DWP rate hike: ""We have over 8,000 giant bank transformers at substations that need replacement and the agency tells us they will replace two a year. Do the math. That means these won't all be replaced for 4,000 years."
This item is certain to drive a certain reactionary cadre of MayorSam habitues 미친: over half of all Angelenos speak a language other than English when at home.
DailyNews and the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs suggest Sheriff Baca operates under a kind of spoils system vis-a-vis top brass. The Shefiff's employees have contributed more than $108,000 to his campaigns in recent years.
What the...? A developer, JSM Capital, got the right to pitch developments for the land adjacent to the Westwood VA last year. Now they've got their storyboards up and running. Even though the property is zoned for institutional uses, the developer pitched hotels and units. Worse, it appears that the kleptocratic City of LA wants to annex planning jurisdiction over the property from the County. Hilariously, the Army has linked the development of three cow-county Army recruitment centers to the transaction.
Ethics Commish Bill Boyarsky seems hurt that he wasn't elected prez or even VP of the latest incarnation of the Commission. Like any truly ethical guy, he nominated himself for an exec job.

Joseph you forgot the lame ass idea that Janice Hahn wants to tax property owners $40 dollars for gang bangers. This is bullshit. Already 3 ex felons gang bangers were given money to abuse from the city and she wants more. Laura Chick N Shit for once has it right and is saying NO. We also need to say HELLLL NOOOO

Seems they've lost their steam.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say there was one arrest at tonight's immigration rally in MacArthur Park.
...a scuffle broke out between two people and one man was arrested for investigation of battery. No other details were released. Lee says the rally, which attracted about 300 people.

I thought I read somewhere that the West LA VA land was some sort of gift or in selling it was supposed to be set aside only for Veterans and the programs to help them. Yeah, valuable land trumps original wishes for the future again. That person and Mr Griffith are probably rolling over and over seeing these land grabbing developers fighting over those properties....

I just read on this blog that matt dowd and mike hunt have Carol Sobel suing the city on their behalf, which is why matt showed up at council in a suit, pretending to be some sort of businessman when in fact, we all know what he and zuma are.
Is zuma part of that suit, too? Fo some sort of loss of "business" of selling a few bucks of incense?
The same Carol Sobel who makes a career out of filing sham lawsuits against the city, most recently, in a phony and totally trumped up suit for the "victims" of May 1st.
Which is a sham scheme that everyone who has offered an opinion can see through.
Boy, when it comes to being "shady" and selling out, this is a new low.
When you have pond scum coming here from New Zealand, where do you people get off just going after the Mexicans?
Your "triple trifecta" of fools and sham artists trump anyone you could possibly try to scare up a story about.

Amazing that the story of Garcetti (pere)'s unethical driving has not surfaced. I guess we'll hold it until the right time.

How many years has Antonio single-handedly set back the positive Latino movements and interest? 10 years, 20 years or 30 years?

Ok let's mark down another stupid clowncil motion. As if anyone gives a crap what they think!!!
....Councilman Bill Rosendahl introduced a resolution Wednesday that calls for an "immediate and complete" withdrawal of United States troops from Iraq.
Six council members seconded the resolution: Janice Hahn, Jose Huizar, Bernard C. Parks, Jan Perry, Ed Reyes and Herb Wesson. The resolution calls for redirecting money being spent on the war to domestic needs such as infrastructure and mass transit.
"This war has diverted funding that could improve the quality of life for Los Angeles residents," Rosendahl said in a statement.( BUT THEY WASTE MILLIONS ON BS HERE IN LA)

Ed Reyes, one of the six brains mentioned, also kept talking about our obligation to end poverty and the injustices done to poor people, out of turn and in relation to nothing. The City Attorney kept trying to shut him up, telling him it's not an agenda item and he can respond very briefly to someone from the public who brought up that random point, but Reyes kept going on because it was very important to him. What a fool.
The Mayor actually discourages the marches, or certainly doesn't endorse them. I think Cardenas is more moderate among the Hispanics?
Wish people on this blog didn't tar them all with the same brush -- single out the ones doing right.
Of course Huizar and Reyes along with Hahn are among the main ones supporting the illegals. They had the Arellano woman's 8-year-old leading a procession of changing children through the Nation's Capitol yesterday, changing about "we want our moms," but only 150 people were there and there was an altercation outside Nancy Pelosi's office, which the police promptly put down. These fools are getting more aggressive as they become more desperate and outnumbered. Using the kid that way is tasteless -- why isn't he in school somewhere?
Said he's going back to his mother in Tijuana, but they keep dragging him up to lead demonstrations.

If anyone is upset about the cops' three day, 12-hour work schedule, the Daily News has a story reminding that it's a legacy of the Hahn administration: he promised that to the Police Protective League in return for their endorsement for his Mayoral candidacy, and now there's no way the PPL will give that back.
10:02, I'm also disgusted with what matt and the "triple trifecta" are doing to us taxpayers, after all their pretending to fight for truth and justice. What phonies and the worst kind of opportunists. Shame.

Time to deport the illegal midget mexican mayor, Jose Huizar and Ed Reyes. Let's clean up the city of these illegal alien pandering fools.
No more dirty trash and drunk mexicans on the streets of L.A.

Regarding the Boyarsky post on LA Observed, it would seem that the MOST interesting part of this is towards the end: that Steve Kaufman wants to give lobbyists an additional "out" to avoid having to pay up for violating city ethics laws.....

You people don't have a clue. Every major law enforcement agency is on 3-12 schedule and the fact is Bitter Bernie is so pissed at PPL notice he's the only one constantly crying the same tune. Even the Daily News says in their opinion that council should not question it and leave it alone. But Perry and Bernie have nothing better to harp and whine about so here we go again attack the cops. They haven't done shit for their districts not even brought in a MARKET and their districts look as bad as Huizar and Reyes with trash and crap all over the streets. Bernie hasn't brought in any new development. Hasn't really done shit for his people all the time he's been on clowncil.

Statistics aren't biased. Generally, it's how they're interpreted that can be biased. The LA Times' interpretation of ramifications of non-English speaker statistics in LA is clearly an opinion and is very biased.
When will the LA Times hire reporters and not propagandists? Why doesn't the LA Times just put every single one of their articles on an OpEd page, where they belong?

3:34: I think if their headlines were along the sentiments of this blog, like "DEPORT THE MIDGET MAYOR!" or 'THE ILLEGAL MEXICAN MIDGET MAYOR AND ALL THE MEXICAN MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL HAVE DESTROYED OUR CITY! DEPORT THEM ALL ALONG WITH THEIR ILLEGALS!" -- that would be biased journalism.
