Daily News editorial, Premature taxation, check your pockets

Great editorial yesterday in the Daily News highlighting the "People's Council" proclivity to seek out new "streams of taxation".

It is one thing to spend tax money on well-though out projects such as public safety inprovements and intrastructure enhancements. But as in the case of Janice Hahn's proposed "Parcel Tax" for new gang programs. Their is not a plan in place for how to spend the proposed revenue.

Simply, this current council needs to be held to task for the waste that is programs such as LA Bridges. not another penny for this group of fifteen "Free Spenders" and the Mayor who are taxing the middle class out of this city. Then have the gall to give away millions to the likes of the AEG Group and Eli Broad's Grand Avenue Project. Lets not forget also that because of the comments of city leaders after the MacAuthur Park affair. Hundreds are enduring "LAWYER INDUCED TRAUMA", to enrich themselfs from the cities general fund.

To the Daily News editorial staff, great act of civic oversight. Whether the tax payers pay heed, time will tell.

Remember, there are a total of 6 people signed on to this, including Hahn. The D N doesn't seem to want to single them out, easier to tar the whole bunch with the same brush, but that is not appropriate or the case.

Can someone please post here who are the asshole idiot council members who are signed for this piece of crap tax to help gang bangers? No way in hell will this ever past and it will cost a lot of money to get it on ballot. These moron council members are wasting time on this type of STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES MENTALITY. Janice Hahn only came out last year against gangs because ONE girl got killed that for some reason she jumped on. Even Laura Chick is saying this is the stupidest move by these morons. How can they want to tax senior citizens who own homes and DWP raising rates? This goes to show just how stupid clowncil members really are. Everyone is ripping them apart

Didnt' the LA Slimes do a story saying that there were 8 council members who had received campaign donations from LA Bridges? I think they were Hahn, Parks, Perry, Reyes, Huizar, Garcetti.

Janice Hahn is an Imbecile. Gang violence has been around for decades. Youth are killed every week in ELA and South LA and she or any of those losers on council don't say a word. Are they expecting to tax the home owners and again get campaign donations? I know the bimbos on council, Janice, Perry and Greuesome are for this but who else? WE need to slam them with e-mails and calls.
Already people are spreading the word how stupid this is and how ignorant these loser city council members are. Where is Connie Rice on this?

Motion (Hahn - Greuel - et al) relative to requesting that the City Attorney, with input
from the Chief Legislative Analyst, prepare the necessary documents to place on
the February 2008 Presidential Primary Election ballot an initiative to provide
funding for gang prevention, intervention, job training and after-school programs to
reflect the new yearly amount sought ($30 million) and to clarify that the owner of
each parcel in the City would be charged $40.

HELLLOOOOOO THIS IS IN THE MOTION. CAN THEY REALLY REALLY REALLY BE THIS STUPID??????????

...According to the Project's July 2006 report, the City currently spends approximately $100 million on gang prevention and intervention programs.

Ok so you figure if they spend $100 MILLION folks on gang programs why is there still such a bad problem? Could it be no one is minding the store and checking to see where the money is going??????????? HELLLOOOO ANYONE HOME IN CITY COUNCIL????

How much more of this criminal corruption are we going to stand for???

We have to throw the bums out of office but in order to do this we must redistrict to pave the way...But in order to re-district, WE HAVE TO GIVE NUNEZ PROP "R"! They're trying to sneak in term limits on the back of redistricting!!!

The only choice we have in Feb is to GET THE VOTERS OUT THERE! I WILL PERSONALLY DO A SHUTTLE ALL DAY IF NECESSARY! WE HAVE TO VOTE "NO" ON REDISTRICTING AND "NO" TO $170 MILLION FOR GANGBANGERS!!!

The crooks in city council are COUNTING on low voter turn-out!!! Start organizing your neighborhoods NOW!

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen (removes hat and bows low with flourish):
Mr. Spot, did I or did I not comment upon the establishment of a city-wide “personal tax” several months back? (Looks at nails and raises eyebrow) Yes, I think I did, for, if you will, the Clowncil seems to be feeling some pressure from higher up to produce some income in the first quarter of the new year in order to make things look progressive. Word has reached several of our own crew plus a few from Captain Bonnet, as well as Captain Roberts personally that there is a Plan B circulating about that includes raising taxes by taxing the individual incomes of citizenry within the City, savvy? This to make up for a rather excessive shortfall in revenues that fund already greenlighted projects in the LAUSD pipeline, as well as a few other programs since political donations have come up a bit short due to recent “issues”. Now whether or not the sots that surround the Clowncil wil be able to rush this one onto the ballot after having done NO research as to whether or not such a tax would be contrary to the rules and regs of the Franchise Tax Board, for we are, if you will, part of the franchise, savvy? (Reaches into pocket and takes out some quid, rubs them together) I suppose I had better spend it on what I want to spend it on instead of having it yanked out of my hands, if you will. (Feels hands reaching into pants pockets and pulling) Bloody hell! (Smacks at hands) I didn’t say that the local legislation had been enacted….yet! (Hands go away quietly).
Since you, Mr. Spot, run an institute that opines on conservative fiscal policy, let me ask you this: Are you willing to turn over part of your income as a City tax? What does the brain trust over there think? (Dons rob and mortar board and takes Ph.D. from Oxford off wall) I’m all ears, sirrah, for I am curious as to what you would say as well as Mr. Dogg. (Whispers) I don’t think this is what Saint Al would advocate, savvy?
And last but certainly not least, word had it at a certain Emmy cocktail party last evening that a certain former State Assemblyman-turned Clowncilman will be running for Mayor. I was even asked to donate some quid, I was (Smacks hands that return to take Captain’s quid). Did I? (Glares at hands) NO.

Your readers would love that, someone who makes MAV look like the paragon of gringo values and a fiscal conservative. No one from the valley or westside would vote for him -- the coalition that came out for MAV isn't there, they'd come out against him. Even the biggest libs have a limit.

Well, if Alarcon runs, he might carry the Valley. They voted for him as Mayor of the San Fernando Valley, remember?

I can just see the conversations at Casa Alarcon:

Wife: You really should run for Mayor darling. Just because your staff sucks and you were too stupid to pull off my street development scheme, you are still so much smarter than Antonio.

Alarcon: And taller. And more handsome. And more macho.

[Strokes the 'stache].

Wife: And unlike him, you don't play around, right?

Wife: Right?

Yes, despite garnering the Valley's vote based on sheer name ID (I mean, he's run so many damn times for so many damn offices), Alarcon will still lose. Why?

(1) He looks like Zorro, and acts like a character in a bad movie on Univision. Smarmier than Antonio!

(2) He has an FBI file a mile-thick, from his days in the Bradley administration. He was seriously investigated, then not charged. A mixture of a changing of the guard, political pressure, and bigger fish to fry. But that stuff could come out.

(3) People like me will never forget him tarring Assemblyman Katz with the "racist" label. I believe in justice, as do others. You don't unjustly play the race card and see it easily forgotten. Sorry.

(4) He has shown nothing other than a marked ambition for higher office. No accomplishments. Nada.

BUT, after this long diatribe, I will say this. Alarcon getting in the race would be OUTSTANDING. He would siphon enough votes that a third candidate of any significance (Hertzberg, Hahn, La Bonge, etc.) would win the race.

Run, Richard, run.

8:11: You were goin' pretty good there, until you got to your wish list of the Three Stooges. Which Hahn, not that it matters? No and no. Spendthrift and Wastrel.

LaBonge, who uses his job to make up for the world travel and worldly experience he never got on his own, but still can't hide the fact that he has neither? He'd be a good and very enthusiastic travel agent.

Hertzberg? He's good trotting around the world doing enviro projects -- belongs on a Board or Commission, maybe the DWP. He can work to "green the city," that's it. While he's eating pastrami sandwiches. (But Bob, do you know how much more harmful that is to environment than being a vegan?)

Alarcon just got married, so he can play that csrd, but I'm sure he has a skeleton and kid or four in the closet. Says his wife is media-shy is why she couldn't talk to the press about where she really lived. Yeah, that would work.

He jokes at Council about "swinging like a cholo," your take on him is just-so. He looks like the evil bandido in old spaghetti westerns.
And having jumped ship from Assembly and if he run, CC, without even finishing a term in either, won't get a pass like it used to.

Remember how Antonio got pilloried for not staying his whole term? He has been pandering to his illegals with the loan bailout scheme.

Huizar is said to be eyeing the job, set himself up as patron of El Grito and every Mexican event. Who is the most useless, phony and therefore, likely to get most of the Hispanic vote?

Would Huizar go up against MAV?

Neither he nor Alarcon could get the big money, though.

So that leaves -- Laura Chick said she won't run against MAV. Zev is too happy now that he's gotten his hands on the MTA funds.

Antonio will win, he's got the bucks.

If there were another moderate white guy like Riordan...but there ain't. (Don't mention Hahn again!)

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-baby18sep18,1,7786057.story?

A 23-day-old baby in a stroller was killed when his mother walked unsuspectingly into gunfire in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles.

The infant was hit by a stray bullet about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, when three Latino men fired at an outdoor vendor near the corner of 6th and Burlington streets, police said.

The vendor, who police did not identify, was hit in the chest by a bullet. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The infant, Luis Angel Garcia, was pronounced dead just after 10 p.m., said Los Angeles County Coroner Capt. Ed Winter.

Authorities said they were investigating the shooting and were unsure of the shooters' motives.

The area around 6th and Burlington brims with small markets and mostly Latino vendors.

Christina Cruz, owner of Descuentos Chris, a small general store across the street from where the man and child were shot, said the area always has lots of families but is still dangerous.

She described a normal day as busy and hectic, with the sidewalks full of shoppers and people talking to neighbors and friends. But she said trouble was often right around the corner.

"It's a famous neighborhood, but for bad reasons," Cruz said.

Reyes, Huizar and the rest of the clowns we've been telling for years to get rid of and DO SOMETHING about the illegal vendors. The gang bangers are extorting money from them and making them pay up to be out there and the idiots on council thinks its ok. Maybe this baby being killed will wake them up.

No way in hell will a city income tax pass. Love the way KFI John & Ken and Ziegler all slam the morons we have on council on their stupidity. They have more people listening to them everyday add to that the Daily News who writes great opinion pieces on their stupidity and the whole city will know what a bunch of goons we have at city hall

Laura CHick should audit the spending of all the clowns in council. They give millions to developers, waste millions on special event waivers, spent $40 million on elephant exhibit yet two died, waste millions on studies. Instead of using the small brains they have and thinking outside the box its easier to stick it to the people.

On another note Antonio had his own private VIP party at El Grito on Sat. Forget the regular people or should I say illegals in the streets, others were treated to a VIP dinner inside city hall. HOW MUCH DID THAT COST THAT WE PAID FOR? THEN DON JOSE SPENT $50,000 SPECIAL EVENT WAIVER FOR THIS SHAM.
