Eric is a whuss. These idiot reporters are the scum of the earth. They are vultures to get a story and when you see two burly cops basically trying to get you to not go any further and the idiot female reporters tries to run pass them she deserved what she got. I'm sick of these idiot reporters acting like the victims. The reporters are very competitive to beat the other guy out for a story they create dangerous situations for everyone. I'm glad the press that got hit at MacArthur sure deserved it. Other reporters have said they had no business right there with the cops but we're all desperate to get the story up front. LOSERS

Well, I looked at both videos and, sorry, the real beef is with the Mayor, not the cops or security.
The security only seem to be doing what they were instructed to do and keep the press away or at a distance - your argument is with Villar and his people on that one. When the press decided to make a run for the gate and the security or cop ran to prevent them from getting there, looks to me like he was doing his job.
Now, while I am sure it wasn't polite, that shove just did not look all that serious or threatening. She didn't even fall over, she also did not hit the side of that container all that hard either...sorry - once again, too much drama being made of too little. Weak, whiney little princesses (that would be the women AND the men) are becoming irritating ... she took her chances making a run for that gate when she knew the cops were there to keep them all away from it.
It looks to me like cops doing what they were told to do in keeping the press contained. If you don't like that or feel it is inappropriate, I really think you need to take it up with the people who gave the orders...

Reporter shoved at mayor's press event

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's effort to put his affair with a local Telemundo reporter behind him backfired this morning when a Port of Los Angeles police officer protecting him shoved a Spanish-language reporter against a steel container.
The mayor, who for weeks has been hounded at public events over his affair with KVEA reporter Mirthala Salinas, attempted to tightly control a morning press conference on port cleanup programs.
It was his first public appearance after Telemundo announced Thursday that Salinas would be suspended for two months without pay. Three of her superiors were also punished for their part in the scandal, including KVEA General Manager Manuel Abud, who was transferred, and News Director Al Corral, who also was suspended for two months without pay.
"I am not going to comment or speculate on the decision of Telemundo or their investigation," Villaraigosa told a crowd of more than a dozen reporters and news cameras. "It's time to move on and move on we will.
"Now that Telemundo's review has reached a conclusion, it's my hope that we can all move forward. I intend to do that by working as hard as I can every single day."

camera-friendly mayor left through two large shipping containers and beyond a gate. The reporters followed.
But a line of port police attempted to cordon them off. Several asked why they were being held back.
As a crowd of reporters pushed forward toward the mayor, Azteca America reporter Alicia Unger ran toward the gate. As she approached, a port police officer pushed her against the steel container.
"He pushed me with his hand, pushed me against the container, slammed me there," she said.
"The whole media was trying to interview the mayor but security is not allowing us and I think they are violating our rights once again," she said, referring to the Los Angeles Police Department's violent confrontation with the members of the media and the public during a May 1st immigration rights rally at MacArthur Park.
Sgt. Ken Hawkes of the Port of Los Angeles police said the agency will launch an internal investigation into the officer's actions.

That little reporter can run. I think the Sarge needs a little daily cardo exercise. The reporters were trying to push past the officers during the entire incident. In fact, after the Sarge pushed the little gal she started trying to push past him. They (the reporters pushed first) pushed first.

Glad to see that even on this blog, usually thirsty for AV's blood, most people blame the "bloodthirsty" mob of press. You can't call them reporters or journalists any more, since they actually prevent the dissemination of real news. The way Zahniser says a male reporter "barked" his question, why they were not allowed to "interview" (i.e., NOT interview, but ignore what the Mayor was saying and harass) the Mayor, shows that even Z was pretty struck by how rude this unruly mob was.
Not only are they supposed to obey a cop's orders to disperse -- clearly, this is how they behaved at McArthur Park, too, then blamed the cops -- but in this case, the Mayor was entered a secured area. This pushy, unruly mob had NOT been given security clearance. Ports ae like airports that way.
That ugly Unger woman behaved like a little creep, kept dashing around the cop, giving him no choice. I'm sick of these slimy press people creating incidents, then dragging the Police Dept. through another money and time-wasting review. We need cops on the streets protecting us. It's like fort knox there but with a ocean view.
It seems to me that the press was trying to into a restricted area and the port cops were just doing their duty of keeping people without the proper clearance away from a secure site.
The fact that a reporter was near a bin tells me they were already in a restricted site, the press should actually respect federal law and stop trying to be the next asshole with a more gossippy scoop.
I support the port police and I am sure federal law backs them up.
But of course the idiots on this blog know everything about the port, right?
That woman is really creepy. The way she kept screaming at the cop, "Why did you push me, why did you push me?" after trying to run past him into a secure area after being very explicitly told not to -- she's aware of how she comes off, is trying to create tape of the incident to use later. Provoke the cops, get on tv as a martyr: the new game, best played by the Hispanic media, like at McArthur Park.

Why was the video clip changed? The first one was from a different camera and was a much more complete view of the incident. It looks like the press conference was held in the longshore parking lot (an unsecured area) and the reporter was running towards the gate into the secured terminal. The cop is a big guy, if he had body checked the rather small reporter, she would have not been standing.
But the big question is why after shoving his face in front of the news cameras for two years, the mayor expects to continue getting a free pass from the press who are now realized they have been played. You cannot get in bed with a group (pun intended) then kick them out (or at least most of them) and not expect someone to get pissed. Might some reporters be angry at what they see as the mayor’s girlfriend (squeeze, sweetie-pie, gal, doll, moll, soul mate, honey, loved one, significant other, love of his life - pick one as suits your inclination) got away with a breach of professionalism (to put it mildly) because the status of her lover. But then again why would Universal want make the mayor angry while they still need him. Speaking of pissed people, has anyone heard anything about the mayor’s soon to be ex-wife?

RE: Hahn bashing the cops: It was yesterday on prev. thread, 8/3 6:27 p that I predicted Hahn, Bitter Bernie and Alarcon -- followed happily by the other Hispanics -- would promptly turn this into a civil rights violation by the cops and demand an investigation.

First of all, the "media" has shown all the pics that they have of Salinas and the Mayor together. Do you have any you want to share?
Second, Hahn did not assault a security guard at the Century Plaza Hotel.
The incident happened at a hotel on Century Blvd. near LAX and involved a large group of hotel workers and activists trying to get into to see the hotel manager.
A "sue-happy" guard claimed that in the melee, Hahn pushed him (video contradicted that) and he wanted to sue her. The claims were never proven and the case was either dropped or is still in litigation.
Poor Port Police and regular cops? Please.
Sometimes our Mayor acts out of fear.
I think we all know he has a lot to hide so a little lady with a big mouth is waaaaay scarier than a little lawsuit.

Excellent report by Dave Bryan on Channel 9 last night: yes, the press are at long last no longer simply eating up the #$!@* being dished out by the mayor and his office and are finally getting around to talking about the humongous ego and the unbounded ambition and the fake "family values" persona, etc..
Now that he's been mayor for awhile, it's clear that the Villaraigosa experiment has failed.
He does not have the intellectual depth, honesty, or the personal integrity necessary to run the second largest city in the U.S.
He has no credibility and has lost the trust of Angelenoes. Villaraigosa must save the city further embarrassment and resign immediately.

Yesterday, LA Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa appeared at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro as part of his great pothole tour, this time to announce that the Target chain was implementing the use of 100 new cargo trucks using cleaner burning natural gas. (Really! I'm not making this up, folks.) Unfortunately, as usual, the assembled reporters had no interest in this topic and again peppered His Honor with questions about his paramour, Telemundo reporter, Mirthala Salinas. The timing was exquisite since Telemundo had just announced a 2-month suspension of Salinas, coupled with the transfers and suspensions of three of Salinas' supervisors (who had known about the affair).
As is his wont, Villaraigosa evaded any questions about Salinas, trying to bring the subject back to the clean air trucks that interested nobody. During his tap dance, Villraigosa repeatedly reminded the press that "it was time to move on", a favorite line of the Democrats during the Clinton-Lewinsky affair.
Finally, as Villaraigosa retreated to his car, covered by a phalanx of Port Authority Police, reporters tried to follow the mayor to continue their questions. As police blocked their route, one reporter, Alicia Unger of Azteca America, tried to slip between a couple of cargo containers to avoid the security and get closer to the mayor. At this point, she was slammed into a cargo container by a burly plain-clothes Port Authority sergeant in sun glasses named Kevin
Mc Closkey. (Talk about a name right out of central casting. Say, wasn't he the same New York PD cop who roughed up Al Pacino in Godfather I?) Anyway, as they say in Spinland, Villaraigosa succeeded in "moving on" right back to the temporary safety of City Hall.
Meanwhile, what will eventually happen to Salinas' career is anyone's guess now that Telemundo has concluded that serious professional guidelines were violated by her and her bosses. Much like Clinton, however, Villaraigosa skates merrily along, from pothole to clean-air trucks, while those he comes in contact with go down life's toilet.

They are a fifth column here in the U S, with an agenda of furthering Mexico's and Mexicans' ambitions to take over L A, turn it into the Aztlan Mexican "homeland" that never did exist outside of their imaginations.

The police line was obviously formed just to delay the reporters from catching up with the departing mayor, not about any restricted area.
When the mayor had walked away far enough and that other walking reporters and cameramen probably couldn't catch the mayor, the police seemed to have given permission to the reporters to go forward then.
That is evidenced by another reporters saying "Let's go" and "Thanks" to the police in the first 3 or 4 seconds of the above video clip. Please check it out again.
Both Alicia Unger, the reporter, and Kevin McCloskey, the port police, were right there. They must both have heard the same thing (that the reporters could move forward now).
The police were actually walking together with the reporters at this point. The police were not blocking the reporters.
It was when Alicia Unger started running, and that Kevin McCloskey might think that she could probably catch up with the major by running, that he shoved her to the container!
It is obvious that the police must have received order to shield the mayor from the reporters after the mayor spoke. These orders would usually come from the mayor's office. Who else would dare?
Like KFI says Janice Hahn is an embezzle and so are the rest of city council. They are a bunch of morons who can't think of anything outside the box. They waste millions of tax dollars and jump on the media like a bunch of whores. LAPD will never get all the cops they want because of these lame asses. Port Police were told to hold the media back just long enough for the Mayor to get a good head start out of there.
Once they thought he was clear the OK was given to the media to move forward.
When Unger, naively hoping she'd still be able to get a question with MAV began to run, that's when Officer McPushy ran after her and pushed her into the container.
Uncalled for and definitely excessive force, considering he weighs over 225 and she comes in at about 100.
