CM Alarcon and Council Want to Change the Poverty Level and Twist All '08 Presidential Candidates To Agree, or Adios Latinos!

CM Alarcon...bro, if you wanna "end" poverty, this isn't gonna make the challenge any easier. But now, City Council wants to twist ALL Presidential candidates into agreeing to raise the poverty level, or else Alarcon and his political allies will throw that "Power of Latino Vote" stuff in your face. Man this guy Alarcon is in office two seconds, and he's off to the races like an Olympic runner on steriods with all his fantastic legislation that will tax any middle class left in the City into the poverty levels he's fighting to raise. HEY...HOW ABOUT A "LIQUID WASTE COLLECTION TAX" ON YOUR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS EVERYTIME YOU TAX THE F*CK OUT OF EVERYONE ELSE!

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, 4.8 millon Californians, or 13.3 percent of the state population, have income levels below the Federal Poverty Level threshold, which is $20,650 for a family of four;

and WHEREAS, the Federal Poverty Level was originally developed in 1963 by Molle Orshansky of the Social Security Administration. Orshansky took the dollar costs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's economy food plan for families of three or more persons and multiplied the costs by a factor of three;

and WHEREAS, the Federal Poverty Level does not take into account regional differences in the cost of living, including factoring in the regional cost of housing, child care, food, health care, transportation, miscellaneous other costs and taxes;

CLICK "READ MORE" FOR A WHOLE LOT MORE "WHEREAS-ES". How about, whereas you are the ones who created this problem by ignoring the issue, and through your housing policy and taxes that have caused rates to skyrocket, and all the high-paying jobs to leave, YOU BIG DUMMIES!!!

and WHEREAS, the Self-Sufficiency Index, an alternate form of calculating the levels of povert in a region, does take into consideration these additional factors, as well as fluctuating according to the number of and age of children in the family;

and WHEREAS, according to the Self-Suffciency Index, a family of four in Los Angeles needs to earn at least $54,000 to be "self-sufficient," which means making enough money to cover basic needs;

and WHEREAS, in the City of Los Angeles, one out of three families does not make enough money to be self-suffcient;

and WHEREAS, according to the Tax Foundation, for every $1.00 that the state of California and California taxpayers send to the Federal government, only 78 cents are returned to California from the Federal government;

and WHEREAS, changing the formula of how povert is calculated from the current Federal Poverty Guidelines to a regionally-based formula, such as the Self-Sufficiency Index, would allow the State of California to increase the amount of Federal funds that come to the state, county and local programs and would bring in a more fair share of funds to the state;

and WHEREAS, the issues affecting the State or'California are often ignored during national debates, but candidates are not shy about raising money in our state; and WHEREAS, on December 10, 2007 the Democratic candidates for President of the United States wil be meeting in Los Angeles to debate issue, and on January 30, 2008 the Republican candidates for President ofthe United States will be meeting in Los Angeles to debate issues;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Los Angeles supports changing the
guidelines for determining povert from the antiquated "Federal Poverty Guidelines" to a formula that takes into account regional differences in cost of living, such as the Self-Suffciency Standard;

and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Los Angeles requests that each one of the candidates running in the 2008 Presidential Primary go on record as to whether or not they support updating the Federal Poverty Guidelines and invites the candidates to address the L6¡ Angeles City Council's Ad Hoc Committee on Ending Povert in Los Angeles on issues of poverty int the city of Los Angeles, state of California and the United States as a whole.

you got this one right, ZD: Alarcon bashes the "rich" on the westside and the valley, the very ones who keep the city humming along with taxes, by claiming that they're really taking resources away from the poor, many of whom are illegal and shouldn't be here soaking up city resources in the first place. How many of those below the poverty line that he's preaching about, are illegal? He and the CC left of liberal contingent, worry more about them than the quiet slobs who keep the city financed. The rest have to go along w/ this stuff tho or they're labeled racist.

Mayorkas, who was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California by President Clinton, has come under fire in recent weeks for his involvement in the pardon of convicted cocaine trafficker Carlos Vignali. Mayorkas revealed earlier this month that he had called the White House counsel's office about the Vignali case, at the request of Vignali's father, a wealthy donor to local political candidates.

The younger Vignali, who was convicted of conspiracy to transport more than 800 pounds of cocaine within the United States, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 1994, but was released after Clinton commuted his sentence on Jan 20.

Testimony at Beltran’s trial established that Verdugo and La Puente Councilman John Solis accompanied Beltran to the Huntington Hotel on his wild night to retrieve Beltran’s belongings, and Beltran later went home with Verdugo to sleep off the humiliating ordeal. Police documents and testimony of a security guard at the hotel further established that Verdugo and Solis gave hotel residents the impression they were the police and could bring down the heat if they did not recover Beltran’s possessions.

How does the 740 Club figure in? It is operated by Verdugo, who has a checkered past as a night-club owner and a history of brushes with the law. Solis acts as the club’s caretaker when Verdugo isn’t around. Beltran used to work for Verdugo at a previous, failed nightclub venture, according to public documents on file in Whittier. Beltran and Solis are not the only local officials who appear to be more than casual patrons of the 740 Club, a multistory mega-club that boasts go-go dancers, Vegas-style laser light shows, fog machines, private balcony booths and “ultra VIP sky boxes” — but which also has been plagued by disturbing and violent incidents in recent months.

According to LAPD Captain Andrew Smith, 740 Club caters to gang members and has been a source of violence and public drunkenness, even allowing a 2005 fund-raiser to pay for the funeral of a slain member of the Mongols biker gang. Smith said, “I personally have met with the owners at least four times in the last year and a half and it continues to be a nuisance.”

Among the current and former local officials associated with the club is Steven Carmona, a former Los Angeles public-works and central-area planning commissioner, and now the director of the National Electrical Contractors Association/International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 11. Carmona is listed as the 740 Club’s representative on Department of Building and Safety inspection documents, obtained by the L.A. Weekly, and says, “I’m friends with Ralph. It’s a great venue but a tough business.”

In addition, the 740 Club has emerged as a venue for political gatherings sponsored by Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar, whose 14th council district includes the rundown stretch of Broadway where limousines line up in the urine-drenched alley that gives way to the velvet rope, red-carpet entrance and bastion of gangsta-style nightlife.

Yet it’s not all fun and games at the 740 Club. Alarming incidents confirmed by local officials suggest that it is a dicey place to dance the night away. According to the LAPD, one woman was found lying unconscious there earlier this month with her pants and underpants pulled down. Authorities found evidence she had had sex, and police are investigating the incident as a possible sexual assault. Last August, a man identified as Roman Alvarado was stabbed in the 740 Club parking lot, allegedly by a member of the White Fence gang, after a fight broke out inside the club, and died from his stab wounds two weeks later.

Police also are investigating an incident in which an off-duty Long Beach cop's personal car was stolen from the 740 Club parking lot, along with his badge. The car was later recovered, but the badge is still missing. Verdugo could not be reached for comment about the troubles at his club.

All of this raises questions such as, why are government officials involved with such a joint? And what goes on at the hot and heavy 740 Club that has attracted aspiring politicos like Beltran and Solis, or former commissioners turned labor honchos like Carmona?

Then there is Huizar, identified as a “True Blue” sponsor on an invitation by the Metropolitan Democratic Club last July to its one-year anniversary party at the 740 Club, hosted by Verdugo and Carmona. Beltran and lawyer-lobbyist Francisco Leal, the city attorney in Maywood and Huntington Park, are listed as “Blue” sponsors.

Huizar also hosted a private fund-raiser there, and later took his wife to the club. However, he said he recently learned that the City Attorney’s Office is considering a nuisance-abatement action, telling the Weekly, “It doesn’t fit my vision for that part of Broadway.”

With Verdugo at its center, it is a strange confluence of politics and nightlife, this trendy club featuring major rap and R&B acts such as R. Kelly, Missy Elliott, Usher and Snoop Dogg, which at times hosts private political events such as the after-party last fall for the National Latino Congreso.

In a recent interview with the Weekly, Beltran said he frequents the 740 Club “about once every other month,” and that his wild night last June was “an isolated incident.” Yet it was enough to prompt Verdugo and Solis to accompany him back to the hotel, where his two friends offered money to residents in exchange for the return of Beltran’s possessions.

Pressured out of Whittier, Verdugo opened the 740 Club in downtown Los Angeles in 2005, and is now president of the Entertainment Group Inc., which holds the liquor license. According to Carmona, the Fire Department “wants separate corridors from the mezzanine and the main floor, in case of emergency,” and the club has yet to receive final permit approval. Rather, it operates under a renewable temporary certificate of occupancy.

Even so, the club attracts political events. And last August, after the club hosted its grand opening, Verdugo, the Entertainment Group and a club employee named Alfredo Galvez each contributed $500 to Los Angeles City Councilman Huizar — on the same day.

PROH-LA (see also: PROH-LA, LLC.) is Mark from Metro-LA's company. Bradley/E.B.E. and Paula Bagasao (both of GPNC) are a part of the organization, along with other GPNC members.

Cypress Park NC just had a coup where the old were voted out, and new were voted in. (Cypress Park is next to Glassell Park.)

Look into CPNC and see who is on the board. Frank Wada, from Linclon Heights NC, was at Glassell Park NC on one of those famous YouTubes.

Frank sits on LHNC Board...why is he going to GPNC?

Tony Butko sits on LHNC board. His wife, Paula Bagasao, of PROH-LA/GPNC sits on GPNC.

(Does Butko sit on GP?)

Look into who is sitting where?

Here is some info for the Antonio Kool-Aid drinkers:

1) Antonio got a girl pregnant while in high school. She was in love with him. Sad part is she was a virgin and Antonio vanished after he found out.

When she took him to court he had four guys all say they had sex with her knowing she was a virgin. What kind of dad is that?

Any questions, ask Paula Petrotta, formerly with City of LA CCYF. She will tell you. It was her best friend. She said Antonio ruined her friends life.

2) Corina knows all about his women. She used to cry all the time and would tell people not to let people knew she knew about it. She enjoyed the perks and was willing to put up with it. She did not like it but she did it for her own good. She plays the victim but she is a willing participant in the charade called "Villaraigosa"

3) When Antonio was speaker he did not come home for moths at a time without speaking to his kids or even Corina. She was busy calling everyone else in Sacramento trying to get a hold of him. check his cell records, those who know him know this is the phone he always used to call home. There will be months at a time where no calls were made home. He did not answer when they called him either. What kind of dad is this?

4) Antonio does love his son very much. So much he got him into Princeton with the help of Jose Huizar. Without Huizar, Antonio Jr. was headed for Cal State LA. It is documented that his son has had a history of learning difficulties. The reason why Antonio went with Jose for council because it was all part of his plan to get his son into Princeton and show the world Villaraigosa are smart. We know daddy has no intelectual bone in his body and just like George H. helped George W. get into Yale, daddy AV helped his son into Princeton. George W. = Antonio Jr.

5)Corina is going to live in the Getty House on the tax payers dime. Yes, a non-profit runs it but the Mayor controls it. an investigation should start to see if any city money goes into the Getty House foundation. If it does, she needs to be gone. Even a hint of impropriety should prevent AV from letting her stay there. I though you were better than Hahn, Mr. Villaraigosa?

6) The only reason why Antonio married Corina was because she refused him the first and second time. Corinas mom hates AV and did not want them to get married. It was Antonio's ego that set out to get married to Corina because he wanted to show her mom he had more power over her than she did. He was right. Jury is out, Antonio never loved Corina, she was simply a desire fulfilled by an ego-maniac. Equally shameful, Corina has known about his infedelity for at least ten years and turned her check for the government perks. Her reward is to live at the Getty house without AV.

Much more info to come if there are still people who say he is even an avergae husband, dad or friend.

8:03pm,

Ahem nice soap opera you have laid out -- hell you even named one name.

A woman who was fired from the City for embezzeling taxpayer money.

A woman who has a history of mental illness and has been sued in the past for libel.

A woman who has no trust or even credit with anyone relevant.

So yes, let's ask her -- I am sure there are purple dragons and clouds included in the story now.

Nevermind the fact that the story isn't true.

As for points 2&3 a very nice touch for a complete fabrication.

But point 4 is perhaps your most outrageous claim -- now perhaps I know Antonio Jr, and perhaps I don't. But the Mayor must have called in a lot of favors since Antonio Jr was accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, Penn, USC, Stanford, UCSD, Georgetown and Brown.

Princeton is a fine school, they are lucky to have him.

Point number 5 -- well sir you really aren't as up to date as you should be -- Corina will be at Mt. Washington not the Getty House.

I think the disgusting thing is you write these lies knowing full well none of it is true.

And for the record -- Antonio Villaraigosa is a good father, a great Mayor and a decent man.

Hopefully that will boil your blood enough to release more of your novela lies.

Hey Alarcon if you really want to end the poverty level why dont you start with yourself and stop running for office so you wont live off the taxpayers.

By the way since the voters elected you by fraud why dont you have your constituents educate themselves so they can find a better job. Then they will stop working like slaves for misery salaries.

If you're lucky, people will judge you by your character and not just by your appearance, but what do people mean by "character"?

Your character is the sum of all the qualities that make you who you are. It’s your values, your thoughts, your words, your actions. When admissions counselors review your application, your activities and interests give them a glimpse into your character.

Below are many attributes that contribute to your individual character. Building on these elements can help give you a stronger character and make you a more attractive prospect as a potential student.

CHARACTER – Your character is the sum of all the qualities that make you who you are. It’s your values, your thoughts, your words, your actions…in other words, it’s YOU. Like it or not, you will often by judged by your character. Why is it important that you develop strong character traits? What are some situations in which your character might shine?

CITIZENSHIP – Citizenship is the way you conduct yourself within a community, such as the town you live in or the school you go to. Good citizens give back to that community by doing things that make it better, while poor citizens try to tear it down. What are some things you could do to show good citizenship in your school? What actions would be examples of poor citizenship in the town or city you live in?

COMMITMENT – A commitment is an agreement or a pledge to do something in the future. It’s like a promise, and when you commit to something you are giving your word that you will do it. What are some examples of commitments you have made? What are the consequences of not honoring a commitment?

HONESTY – Honesty is truthfulness. It means you are not going to lie or cheat or steal. Honesty is one of the building blocks of strong character, and it is something you display every day of your life. Do you think of yourself as an honest person? Do you think other people consider you to be honest? Is it ever OK to NOT be honest with people?

HUMILITY – Humility means being humble, or not thinking that you’re "all that"! It’s important for you to be confident about yourself. But going too far means you’re cocky, and that’s not a good thing. Humility makes you believe that there is still more you can do to learn and improve. Do you know someone who could use a dose of humility? Have you ever gone a little overboard and forgotten about being humble?

If a man will cheat his own wife ... would he even pause before he cheats you? If possible ... think about it.

So, Liberals don't care and would vote for the cheater anyway? Ok, then don't complain when we all get cheated.
Liberals have little use for morality ... at least that's what they chant like some damn Jihadi ... until they believe it.
The real problem with liberals is they don't believe in anything, so of course they can believe anything ... like it makes no difference if your elected representative is honest or a cheat.

1 out of 3 democrats believe Bush knew about 911 and let is happen. Clearly, democrats are a party of certifiable lunatics, but I suppose you don't care about that either? LMAO

Politicians make promises. They don’t get results. If any business was run as our politicians run our country, the owners would be arrested for fraud at the very least. Our politicians cheat, lie, and steal. They do it all under our noses, completely unaccountable to anyone but themselves.

Many men also engage in affairs because doing so is an ego boost for them. The knowledge that they can find multiple women willing to engage in an intimate relationship with them is a tremendous self esteem builder for some men. They take pride in the ability to attract women and don’t care about the fact that doing so may destroy their relationship. To these men the excitement of the chase is almost more important than the conquest. Sometimes just knowing that other women find them desirable, is enough to stroke the ego of these men. In general it is a lack of self esteem on their part that drives them to seek out affairs in order to reiterate their attractiveness and desirability.

How pathetic!!!! That a man would rather do right by strangers (clients)than the one person he has promised to forsake all others for!!! I would not trust a cheater!

They apparently have some serious moral, ethical, and psycological problems. Not to mention being a liar and a seriously untrustworthy person.

June 14, 2007 9:57 PM

to last writer, if a man cheats on a woman he's pretending to have a loving and committed relationship, that sucks and so does his character and I'd agree it's a sign of insecurity, someone using their power to fulfill a deep inner worthlessness and someone who can't project how his actions will hurt the other person.
BUT it's clear that AV and Corina got back together the last time in 94 as a business relationship, she enjoyed the power and money it gave her while she could still pretend to be "one of the people" as a simple schoolteacher, how perfect.
-- they went as far as they could with that sham, couldn't even hide their loathing for each other, so if AV found a woman he cares for and v.v., that's natural. But if he keeps just sleeping around and messing w/ women's heads, then he'd better wake up and smell the roses.
This is your wakeup call, Mr. Mayor: when you find the next Mrs. oh, oh, make sure your heart is true.

33% of Democrats believe Bush knew about 9/11 and let it happen?

Thats the most absured made-up statistic I've ever heard.

Democrats believe Bush had the intel that something like 9/11 MIGHT happen (because he did have the intel that members of the 9/11 crew had taken flight lessons)

And if you want to talk about morality in politics...thats fine..but saying that Dems are less moral than Reps is just plain idiotic. Lets take a look at some names:

Guiliani -- Married a 2nd cousin, married 3 times (2 known affairs)

Foley -- don't even get me started on that scumbag

Bush -- DUI, Cocaine and dodged serving in the war

Gingrich -- Married 3 times (2 known affairs)

Those are just some examples...morality, or lack thereof goes both ways in politics
