But not to fear: someone who has nothing better to do is putting up illegal signs indicating the bars once were gay (is there an ex-gay bar movement?).

The "Day in the Life" posting was very interesting, and corroborates the inferences we've drawn about the Mayor's staffers based on the comments they post here.
Something tells me we are in the eye of the storm for Rocky.
Something tells me its going to get rocky for Weiss and the Mayor - and others.
The problem for just about every politician: There is enough dirt out there to go around.
This might be a "mutual assured destruction" scenario where everyone starts launching their nuclear secrets about other politicians to dilute their own bad news.
Looks like an interesting week ahead where L.A. gets an even nastier rep than it already has.
What an embarassment.
If there's an "embarassment" to come, it's thanks to dirtdiggers like Zuma, you my dear Sam, with the nasty insults with which you preface this stupid diatribe, and the imbeciles who think they can possibly field anyone better than Weiss for the seat when they're a bunch of "crybaby losers" to use Zuma's phrase... They have no substance, but decided to try to sling dirt and anything that comes down on their heads and karma, stems solely from them. They thought they had a right to shake down a developer -- yes, and that's what it was, much as I don't trust developers in general or their dubious number-crunching, either --
and they have led a nasty, secretive little dirty war, which is actually designed to hurt other residents/homeowners of CD 5.
Someone said it would be better to have Zuma and Matt Down running things than the clueless, imbecelic losers who are behind this effort, and sad as it makes me, I'd have to agree. I've met these people, and they are a miserable, hypocritcal lot, mired in negativity and headed for the negative karma they earned.
That is the only reason I'd bother to make this posting: remember, anything that comes crashing down, was started by these clueless losers. Conspiracy theories aren't necessary or valid: it's them. No one is afraid of them... just about to witness their hissing implosion, like the witches in Wizard of Oz.
It's funny how you clowns, Mayor Sam, I mean you, think you have some right or inside track on what Orlov of any of the other scribes really think. I know Rick, and as I decompress from getting in my own story and getting a laugh at the misinformation and low- budget hatchett jobs going on here from the sadsacks attacking Weiss, I can tell you: he'd never give you anything that was remotely true, but there is indeed enough stuff to go around -- but it ain't hitting Mayor AV or his buds...so guess...?

how come the reps from east l a and the valleys are totally so ignored; didn't Zine turn the last remaining open field in Woodland Hills into a humongous 2,500-unit condo, around the last election 4 years ago? Are people out there down with that, or just too removed from City Hall to try to object? And what's with all this stuff from E L A and NE valley and Glassell Park -- most of us don't even know where these places are, so are they not part of L A?
ANd the stuff I've heard about Janice Hahn and the Ports of L A/ San Pedro, which are actually very wealthy and powerful despite the slums around them and in Watts... What's the story there? But does this all have to come out as dirt?
I'm surprised at the media coverage the Weiss recall is getting. Now, I'm getting e-mails from all over with links to the different stories on the recall from different newspapers. Weiss and his Cof Staff Denise Sample have been very arrogant and rude to so many people. Maybe if they were a little nicer and at least cordial this wouldn't have happened. I think the recall people have a good chance because there's also signs all over his district saying "Recall Jack Weiss". Antonio can't do anything for him cause now the Westsiders don't like him for his support on illegals.

I've enjoyed reading your blog for some time...the comments posted can be thought provoking and interesting. However, I've noticed a shift in the tone and tenor of some of the comments...the shift is not a positive one. There are so many interesting things going on in LA politics...thoughtful analysis rather than vitrolic bable hatred...the Mayor: clearly, he is the most powerful Mayor since Bradley; his chief of staff etc. do a breat job moving his agenda forward; his support of Bratton and fullfilling his promise of 10,000 officers...great; his total intimidation of City Council coupled with a weak, ineffectual and possibly unethical City Atty have thrown the balance of power and checks and balances out the window...how long can his hold it together? The City Attorney: it's only the beginning of a long downward spiral that started when his entire leadership team left two years ago...the public is only learning what City insiders knew some time ago...the City Attorney's Office can't be trusted...can be trusted to just give good legal analysis and advice...because the person running the office is not an atty.
Weiss: His pandering is shameless and nobody, but nobody believes he would be an improvement as City Attorney; in his typical arrogance, he ignored his constituents...he is not respected, he has no substance and no guiding principles; and, it is SO obvious that the Mayor wants to continue his power grab by having Weiss be his rubber stamp City Attorney. The Council President: no leadership, no strength and Eric the great he is not...compare Ferraro with Eric? You can't and we all know why? Until LA gets a Council President who can build consensus on the Council without cowing to the Mayor's Office we will have problems with the Council being viewed as the Clowncil. LA City Political Leadership: The shift to the right by the US Suprement Ct is not near as profound as the shift occuring in LA to the left, and I mean the far left...inclusionary zoning etc...will have a lasting impact...in sum, LA is out of balance...Let's discuss?

You are right. What you are seeing is the end-result of a take over of the city by special interests and the lawyers.
You are seeing the end result of people who no longer represent the best interests of the city. Instead, they represent the people who get them money for their next job.
There are so many problems. A few solutions:
1. The controllers office budget should be automatic based on a formula. The office can't be dependent on the very people they are auditing.
2. The ethics department needs to have its budget be automatic as well for the same reasons.
3. Ethics needs to have real-time enforcement. As it stands candidates can violate rules knowing that they will only have to pay a fine later. It becomes a cost of doing business. There is no penalty that impacts the election in question, so there is a built-in incentive to break the rules.
4. Term limits has to go. Term limits has forced politicians to pander to the special interests instead of their constituents.
5. Conflict rules must be rewritten. The amount of money flowing from the same cast of characters to electeds is astonishing.
That's a start.
I say if you're going to go after Rocky for all his screw ups then investigate and go after ALL city council and Mayor. I'm sure reporters will find a ton of corruption much worst then what they found on Rocky. Mayor has 26 city cars for his staff. More deputy mayors then any other and he hasn't done anything. He's a do nothing Mayor. Now he's going to campaign for Hillary. Read this though.

The mayor had been effective...at gearing up his p.r. operation, at being the Energizer Bunny, at running from event to event to get maximum visibility where he thought this might help him. Now, though, the bloom is off the rose, the shine is off the shoes, the "show" needs to become action. Yeh, the folks out of town still see the publicity, while local folks see a controlling and arrogant (former) "man of the people" who has gotten caught up in his own hype.
Sorry to burst your peanut-gallery bubble, but polls and grassroots opinion show that Weiss fares very well for C/A: the sort of gravitas, knowledge of the law as a former fed prosescutor and willingness to vote his conscience and the law regardless of how the political winds blow, are all huge pluses for a C/A. He has the solid respect of the C/A deputies (who understandably look down on a career politician like Rocky who only ended up int hat job cuz he couldn't find anythng else to run for), the respect of Bratten and the cops as head of Public Safety, and the moderate voice on the May 1 Task Force, and the respect of the business community as well as the residents/homeowners of CD5 who are not just rude, bussy NIMBYs and on an ego trip to shake down developer JMB and others. Weiss has earned his share of ire from developers, too, proving he's in the middle and votes each case, by its merits.
Personally, I respect Weiss for NOT caving in to the rude, bossy, nasty recall proponents, when that would have been the easy thing to do all along. The kind of windbag, liberal grandstanding on the CC, of Hahn and some others; the silly cheerleading/ backslapping of those like LaBonge and Rosendahl; the oafish simplemindedness of Zine, Smith and dandy Bitter Bernie; the open catering to illegals of the Hispanics: Weiss has stood his ground, solidly supporting civil rights but never caving in to the loudest voices. He will nto only get the C/A job, but be a great one. (And no, the Mayor won't "control" him: that's the point, no one "controls" him but hmself.)

His kiss butt alignmenet to the Mayor alone is enough for people to recall his sorry butt. He's too much of an Antonio lapdog and kiss butt. He's always right next to AV at any possible photo op. Looks weak and really pussy of him. No way will he win a City Attorney spot. All people have to do is bring up how close he is to Antonio and its all over.
Actually, seems to me he's been the least likely to hold sway with the pro-illegal contingent, or at least one of the few. No one on the City Council can openly disagree with the majority Hispanics/liberal whites but he isn't the one who proposes that legislation. And he always gives the cops the benefit of the doubt first; some think he's not left-wing enough.

You must be involved with the Weiss campaign...he has the identical reputation within City government...an empty suit who calls a press conference for the sake of calling a press conference...he reputation as a federal prosecutor was not a stellar one...if Hertsberg runs for CA, Hertsberg will beat Weiss by the same margin Brown beat Rocky...and, it is SO obvious that he would be a puppet of the Mayor signing off of any the advice the Mayor would like to give himself...Weiss is the same as Rocky...a politician first and not much of an atty...In fact, Weiss is the only potential CA that could take the office further into the abyss...

Hey, Sam and Walter Moore: It finally dawned on me, why you keep up with the Weiss posting when there's no news: you're being paid by the recall group, who couldn't get a real P R person to take on their doomed accunt. (Even Zuma today at Council addressed Weiss as the next C/A, to do something about the labor building downtown...) Someone on these blogs kept bugged Walter to cough up a list of campaign contributors, to the tune of 7: a month: he's right. If you want even a smidgeon of cred...?

Recalls are diffficult to execute because of the very large numbers require to begin them.

Although I'd LIKE to take credit for fueling Recall Pompous Jackass, I may have piled on here and there, but to say "ZD fueled", takes the deserved credit away from the true fuelers. And although it's fun to throw the Recall Jack Weiss stuff in now and then...I still just throw that in as sprinkles on top of the other "agenda item" issue stuff.

Mayor Sam, Walter or Zuma didn't make Weiss Ass recall a story until the Daily News and LA Slimes and numerous blogs reported it. So you can blame Weiss constituents for not being happy with his service. Whether the recall is successful or not the fact of the matter is people all over the city now know what Weiss has been up to with developers and it doesn't look good.
All the major papers have done is report that there is a recall effort, but it's the recall dolts who come off as disorganized whiners without a substantive point, but upset that they didn't get to shake down the developer. They also admit that they are upset w/ general traffic issues across city, and the papers report that truthfully, to the recall nitwits' disadvantage. I.e., that their specific claims are pretexts, lies and attempts to smear. Their sneaky tactics have been reported as just that, and "secretive," etc.
Clearly there's no sympathy for them from the mainstream.
